South Australia will end its hard lockdown on Saturday night — three days early

South Australia will come out of hard lockdown on Saturday night — three days early — and outdoor exercise with family or housemates will be allowed "effective immediately".

Key points:

It comes as the state records three new coronavirus cases, all of which were already in quarantine and were close contacts of staff at a medi-hotel and the Brompton aged care home.

Premier Steven Marshall thanked South Australians for "their spirit" during the state's tough lockdown, which only allowed people to leave their homes once a day to obtain essential goods.

But he said authorities decided to end the lockdown after discovering one of the positive cases at the centre of the Woodville Pizza Bar coronavirus hotspot had misled contact tracers.

The man, who worked at the Stamford medi-hotel, told authorities he contracted coronavirus after purchasing a pizza, but it has been revealed that he was actually working at the pizza shop — increasing his exposure to the virus.

“Should Be Scads of Evidence of Frankly an International Criminal Conspiracy” – WOW! – ATTORNEY SIDNEY POWELL on Confiscated Servers in Germany

Earlier today during the Trump Campaign press conference Attorney Sidney Powell weighed in on the Dominion-Smartmatic servers that were reportedly confiscated in Germany.

Powell confirmed the reports were legitimate.

Reporter Emerald Robinson: There were reports that a piece of hardware possibly a server was picked up in Germany. Is that true and is it related to this?

Attorney Sidney Powell: That is true. It is somehow related to this. But I do not know if good guys got it or bad guys got it.

Later this evening Sidney Powell joined Lou Dobbs and was asked again about the SCYTL raid in Germany.

Sidney elaborated on the incident.

Lou Dobbs: There have been great controversy as you know about the reports on a raid on a company SCYTL in Germany which held election data presumably… Can you tell what actually did happen there and what you do know?

Sidney Powell: Well I know that is one of the server centers. There is also one in Barcelona. So it is related to the entire Smartmatic-Dominion operation. We do not know whether the good guys got the servers or whether the bad guys go them. Being on the outside of the government we simply don’t know. I’m hoping it’s the good guys and if they have that then there should be scads of evidence of frankly an international criminal conspiracy of the worst sort.

Lou Dobbs: And the presumption then is that they had the records on those servers of all of the votes that were processed by Dominion or Smartmatic.

Sidney Powell: Yes, the way it works is either the votes can be changed on the ground as they come in. People can watch the votes stream in live. For example there was a Dominion employee, high up, at the Detroit Center on the night of the election. He could have watched the votes come in live and manipulated them in that process. It could have run an automatic algorithm against all the votes which we believe is what happened originally and then the machines had to stop and the count had to stop in multiple places because President Trump’s lead was so great at that point that they had to stop the vote counting and come in and backfill the votes they needed to change the results.

Wow!

Powell promised earlier today she would NOT back down.

And she was not playing!

EU antitrust investigations too slow and ineffective to rein in tech giants – auditors

A new report by the European Court of Auditors has found that the EU’s antitrust investigations are too slow and the fines too ineffective to curb the actions of large tech companies, such as Google and Facebook.

The EU watchdog released an assessment of the antitrust probe process, stating “although the Commission has taken a number of case decisions tackling challenges resulting from the digital economy, significant challenges remain to be resolved.”

While EU antitrust investigations addressed competition concerns, they were criticized in the report for failing to adapt quickly enough to the changes in digital markets, which meant that tech giants were able to escape from necessary scrutiny – and eliminate potential competitors.

Criticism was also leveled at the Commission for conducting “generally lengthy” antitrust investigations that were only launched “after a competition problem has arisen.” The report found it took an average of four years for a decision to be made in such inquiries.

Due to the delays incurred, the effectiveness of the decisions taken by the EU was believed to be negatively impacted. The report also noted that “since parties often appeal before the EU courts, this can add significant delays to a Commission decision in taking effect.”

Even where an investigation was finished and had identified a particular breach, the European Court of Auditors raised concerns about the level of fines imposed, as “effective enforcement requires deterrent fines.” Despite the fines being some of the largest in the world, critics have claimed the figures involved are more than affordable for wealthy tech companies.

Despite the criticism, EU antitrust officials have defended the investigation process, with Commission Director General for Competition Olivier Guersent telling an event on Wednesday that “EU competition rules are flexible enough to deal with digital markets.”

Biden: Trump's actions send 'damaging' message to rest of world

President-elect Joe Biden on Thursday sought to raise pressure on President Trump to concede defeat and grant him access to government intelligence, warning that the president’s efforts to overturn the election are sending a “damaging” message to the rest of the world about American democracy, as well as putting lives at risk during a pandemic.

Speaking from near his home in Wilmington, Del., after a meeting with a bipartisan group of governors, Biden said there was “no excuse” for the Trump administration to continue to deny him access to government officials and intelligence briefings, as is customary in a transition process.

Asked about the president’s efforts to overturn the election, Biden paused and looked off into the distance to collect his thoughts, saying he wanted to choose his words carefully.

“I think we’re witnessing something that is incredibly irresponsible,” Biden said. “Incredibly damaging messages being sent to the rest of the world about how democratic functions … I don’t know his motives, but it’s totally irresponsible.”

Trump’s General Services Administration (GSA) has refused to ascertain Biden as the likely winner of the election, despite the president-elect holding a comfortable margin in the Electoral College.

Trump’s lawyers are making baseless claims about widespread fraud and an international conspiracy to steal the election from him, but their efforts to overturn the results have repeatedly been swatted away by the courts.

Until GSA administrator Emily Murphy, a Trump appointee, ascertains Biden as the winner, he’s barred from accessing transition resources and government intelligence.

The Trump administration has also refused to coordinate its vaccine distribution plans with the incoming administration, leading Biden to warn that lives will be lost as he rushes to get up to speed once he’s sworn in on Jan. 20.

“There is no excuse not to share the data and let us begin to plan because on day one it will take us time if we don’t have access to this data, it will put us behind by a month or more,” Biden said. “And that’s lives. How many would be lost as a consequence of that, I can’t tell you.”

“Until [Murphy] does that, we don’t have access to all of the information we have to have from all the various agencies,” he continued. “We’re not able to deal with everything from testing to guidance, to vaccine distribution, and even more importantly, vaccination plans to actually get vaccinations.”

Biden was asked if he’d consider suing to force the GSA to ascertain his victory or to gain access to government briefings.

Biden Says He Has No Plans to Strengthen US Sanctions, Tariffs Imposed on China

The presumed US president-elect, Joe Biden, said during a press conference that he has no plans to strengthen sanctions and tariffs that the Trump administration has imposed on China, but seeks to ensure “bright lines” are respected by Beijing.

“This is not about punishing China, it is about making sure China understands they are going to play with other rules,” Biden told reporters when asked about the possibly of imposing new sanctions and tariffs on Beijing and the government of President Xi Jinping.

Biden reiterated his plans for the United States to rejoin the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Paris Climate Accord on the first day of his presidency.

“We have to make sure that the rest of the world and we get together to make sure there are certain bright lines that the Chinese understand,” Biden said, according to reports.

Although the results of the November 3 presidential election are yet to be officially recognized, major US media networks have projected that Biden is the winner. Incumbent President Donald Trump has continued to insist that he is the winner and complain that the victory was stolen from him by making allegations of massive fraud and other acts of impropriety.

Trump has initiated audits and recounts, as well as filed lawsuits, in state and federal courts to change the election outcome.

Secretary of State announces new $106M voting machine contract

July 29, 2019 - 6:49 PM

ATLANTA — The Georgia Secretary of State’s office said that voters will be using new voting machines in the 2020 election.

Channel 2 Action News investigative reporter Aaron Diamant was the first to break the news on Twitter. He has been following this story since the very beginning.

The $106 million contract was awarded to Dominion Voting Systems.

More: Just confirmed Dominion’s winning bid came in at $106 million over 10 years. $150 million was what the state had budgeted for the contract. https://t.co/fXeOhzg84Y

“Elections security is my top priority,” said Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. “We look forward to working with national and local elections security experts to institute best practices and continue to safeguard all aspects of physical and cyber-security in an ever-changing threat environment.”

Georgia's voting system drew national scrutiny during the closely watched contest for governor last November, in which Brian Kemp, a Republican who was the state's top elections official at the time, narrowly defeated Democrat Stacey Abrams.

Raffensperger said he's confident in the new system's security.

“We’re excited not just for our office, but for Georgia that we’ve made a decision," he said. “I had no dog in the hunt. We let the chips fall when they may, and we had a team of evaluators who went through the process.”

Dominion’s bid was the lowest of the three bids the state received, and the company scored high on security.

Voters will make their selections on touch screen machines, which print out full-size paper ballots. Voters can review their choices before running their ballot through a scanner that tallies the votes and keeps paper copies of the ballots.

“We’ll be able to begin the process of doing what’s called a risk-limiting audit to make sure that, whatever the election result was, we’ll be able to verify that the election was done accurately,” Raffensperger said.

“They’re saying all the right things right now,” said Common Cause Georgia executive director Sara Henderson.

And while voting rights advocates like Henderson told Channel 2 Action News she'll continue to push for hand-marked paper ballots counted by humans, she said, "This is still giving us two things that we wanted that's verifiability with the voter and also auditability so we can't really complain as long as the paper is the official ballot of record we feel like this is a good move."

The new system will also speed up the voter check-in process, leading to shorter lines at the polls.

Raffensperger said his office is already partnering with DHS and private cybersecurity experts to develop best practices.

Georgia's presidential primary election will be held March 24, 2020.

The Coronavirus may end up killing more jobs and businesses than people.

CDC Director: "All Schools Should Remain Open"

In a stunning rebuke to various governors across the nation who have kneejerked their authoritarian responses to the COVID casedemic and shut schools almost universally, today's Trump administration Coronavirus Task Force briefing will come as a shocker.

Having explained in detail how vaccines will be delivered to all Americans (as opposed to the less-priveleged priority of the Biden administration), CDC Director Bob Redfield dropped a "science" tape-bomb as he explained - using the science - why America's schools should remain open!

“At no time has the CDC suggested school should be closed…

…All school should remain open. It is the safest place for children to be.”

As NY, the largest school district in the nation, is set to close on a de minimus positivity rate, Redfield exclaims that following the data shows "there has been no intra-school transmission and we must make sure not to make emotional decisions when the data strongly supports making sure schools remain open."

The New Ruling Coalition: Opposition To Afghanistan Withdrawal Shows Its Key Factions: Greenwald

The Trump era has engendered numerous fractures, one might say realignments, in the political order. Long-time ideological allies are now adversaries, and long-time political enemies are now in full-fledged coalitions. These shifts are not temporary or Trump-dependent but enduring, because they are grounded in shared core beliefs about the defining debates shaping our new politics and how to consolidate real power: call it the Lincoln Project Syndrome.

One major reason for this transformation is a fundamental difference in how to understand Trump: is he the primary author of America’s pathologies or merely a symptom of pathologies which long pre-dated him? Relatedly: is removing Trump from power a vital step in returning the U.S. to its previous status as a benevolent and law-abiding republic, or is isolating him as the principal cause of the nation’s woes a cynical propaganda tactic for whitewashing the sins of those who are actually responsible so that they can rebuild their reputations and again assume power? Were Trump’s policies some radical, unprecedented aberration from U.S. political tradition or, stylistic quirks aside, a standard continuation of it?

How one answers those questions — along with whether one believed that the Kremlin had infiltrated the White House and assumed command of the levers of U.S. power through elaborate blackmail schemes or whether one recognized that this was a CIA-fabricated propaganda fraud excavated from crusty Cold War scripts — determined where one fell on many of the most contentious political debates over the last four years (my answer to all of the questions is the latter choice).

That’s why the millions of Americans who, due to fear of Trump, began paying close attention to politics and consuming news products only in 2016 were such easy marks for peddling fear-mongering narratives and revisionism: because they lacked the crucial historical context in which to place Trump and understand his ascension to the presidency.

Government Forces Brace For Heated Battle With ISIS In Mozambican Mueda Town

Mozambican government forces and insurgents linked to ISIS are bracing for a fierce battle in the town of Mueda in the northeastern province of Cabo Delgado, where a multi-billion gas project is under construction.

The insurgency, which began in October of 2017, intensified this year. Two weeks ago, the militants beheaded more than 50 people in Muatide village.

Most of the insurgents are members of a radical Islamic group known as al-Shabab. The group, that is not related to a Somali faction with the same name, joined ISIS Central Africa Province in June of last year.

A few months ago, the insurgents captured the town of Mocimboa da Paria after a series of bloody attacks. The town was used a port to deliver supplies for a large gas exploration project in Cabo Delgado with the cost of $60 bn.

Now, the insurgents are reportedly eyeing Mueda. The town is located on a highway that connects the northern part of the province of Cabo Delgado with the rest of the country. The insurgents have already captured Muidumbe, less than 38 km to the southeast of Mueda.

Mozambican government forces, who are commanding the operations against the insurgency in Cabo Delgado from Mueda, are reportedly preparing to launch an attack to push the insurgents away from the town.

Government forces failed to save Mocimboa da Paria before. If Mueda falls in a similar way, the nearby coastal areas, including Palma will be completely cut off from land supplies. In the outskirts of Palma, there are infrastructure facilities for the international LNG project, which was provided with $ 14.9 billion financing in July.

According to the UN, Mueda is now hosting many refugees who fled insurgents attacks in other parts of Cab Delgado. More than 14,300 people were displaced by the insurgency last month only.
