I've been through tons of DDOS attacks on this site and they always do something like shut down an image server. Never seen cache damage before. You're presenting this "theory" a little too confidently.

DDOS attacks have a different effect. This was a software problem with the site. My CPU was getting hit even harder than usual during the incident. Bad enough it was noticeable on my desktop. It's more likely that something Hotwheels did back in the day finally broke.

From the summary in global announcements, it still sounds like something more than a normal DDOS. Mirroring the page hundreds of times a second, which would be a gigabyte a second in some cases, is exactly the kind of thing Vanwanet is set up to stop.
