I think this is what it's all about. Think about it. It's one thing to know about a crime but it's another thing to be able to prove it in court. IF, you knew the game but had little or no convincing evidence, how would or could you obtain it?
Put assets in place to monitor their games and record everything. They fell into the trap thinking they were safe and unobserved. They seem to have been wrong.

True. In order to make Christianity more palatable and acceptable to pagans back in the day, the church allowed the pagans to keep their traditional pagan holidays and just sort of, "christianized," them, or repurpose them. Kept the pagans happy. It goes WAY back. Ishtar, Semiramis, Nimrud etc.
Don't get me wrong. The early church was just fine for a couple hundred years or so but like most things, it became corrupted.
