I'm not saying anything groundbreaking, but it's the nature of the election that's causing this. You were/are too emotionally invested in it and it demoralized you. Yea anon. Simplify your life and take a good a look at what you want for the rest of your life. Since you mentioned family, I think most people with bad family relationships could benefit from repairing them. Consider if that's what you might want and if so, make it one of your goals.

It takes time and effort, don't give up. They're still young and whatever they feel, think about you isn't permanent, especially because you have the power to affect the future. I don't know what happened, but as kids, they could have subconsciously felt betrayed, abandoned, etc. But I will say that it's improtant, from this moment on, to be someone they can count on, even if they hate your guts.
