Sinclair to Sell TV Stations in Bid to Secure Tribune Deal Approval
In effort to ease antitrust concerns, Sinclair and Tribune to divest 23 television stations in 18 markets
The Wall Street Journal reported this month that Sinclair was facing pushback from the FCC, which had questions about Sinclair’s plans to sell Tribune-owned television stations in New York and Chicago to organizations with long ties to Sinclair. Already one of the nation’s biggest broadcasters with stations primarily in midsize and smaller markets, Sinclair and its deal with Tribune already have raised concern among some media watchdogs that Sinclair is getting too big.
