The term "The Great Awakening" is nothing new, it's been used to refer to a number of religious revivals and metaphysical turning points in history that happen about every 80-90 years.
It was first used to refer to the religious revival of the 1740s in America, then again called the Second Great Awakening in the period of the 1820s-1830s, when numerous religious denominations sprung up. Like the Mormons, Shakers, Jehovah's Witnesses, the Amana Community, the Oneida Community, Disciples of Christ, etc.
The Third Great Awakening occurred in the early 1900s, with the Social Gospel movement, women's suffrage, Prohibition, and so forth.
The Fourth Great Awakening occurred in the 1970s-1980s with the Jesus Movement, Jonestown, Sun Yung Moon, Children of God, Maharishi Mahgesh Yogi, and astrology sects.
These weren't of a political nature, though some did have a political cast to them, like the Mormons, Jonestown, and George Whitefield.
