A CNN pundit has made the extraordinary claim that President Donald Trump will form a “shadow government” and hold his own “counter-inauguration” in January with the help of conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh.

Without providing any evidence to back up his claims, self-professed ‘presidential historian’ and CNN pundit Douglas Brinkley made the outrageous comments, worthy of any online conspiracy theory message board, on cable news during a recent segment.

The 59-year-old professor of history at Rice University alleged Trump, whom he dubbed a “tinpot dictator,” is “living in some kind of fantasy zone,” and was aiming to “create a kind of second shadow government out of Mar-a-Lago” with the help of conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh.

The historian opined that Trump “will philosophically and emotionally refuse to believe that he lost,” adding that he doesn't think Trump will attend Biden's inauguration and will instead “be petulant and pout” and might even hold a counter-inaugural event.

Commentators online couldn’t help but draw parallels between Brinkley’s claims and what many have insinuated about former US President Barack Obama and failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton throughout Trump’s presidency.

Russian President Vladimir Putin still sees no need to congratulate Joe Biden on his victory in the U.S. election, said Putin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov during a press briefing.

According to Peskov, Donald Trump's decision to launch a formal transfer of power to the new administration was "not enough" for Putin to acknowledge Biden's victory.

"You know that the review and recount of votes in some states is still ongoing, without this the results of the elections cannot be officially finalized," Peskov explained the Kremlin's position.

He added that congratulations will be sent to Biden as soon as the election results are fully certified. "Nothing has changed here, as was said from the beginning," Interfax quotes Peskov as saying.

Now as many of Trump’s mouthpieces will soon find themselves looking for another job, TV networks will also have to avoid the urge to hire them. After supporting Trump in the 2016 election Kayleigh McEnany worked as a commentator for CNN in 2017. It will be tough for any TV executives that don’t run right-wing outlets to justify hiring someone like her again. It’s not just her association with Trump that should require pushback, but her propensity to lie over and over again.

In the meantime, while Trump is in office for 57 more days, there is little reason we can think of to put any of these known liars or conspiracy theorists back on the airwaves.
