LeMay was Chief of Staff of USAF and Commander of SAC under JFK.
SAC is about as close to a "space force" as we have had for the last 70 years.
LeMay wanted to bomb Cuban nuclear sites during Cuban Missile Crisis. He and JFK disagreed; LeMay compared JFK's capitulation to Neville Chamberlain.
LeMay also advocated keeping bombers alongside ballistic missiles – manned high-altitude capabilities to deter escalation.
LeMay coined the phrase "bomb them back into the Stone Age", in reference to the North Vietnamese.
(As an aside, LeMay was also present at JFK's autopsy, though I can't see a space connection there.)
