The Friday before the White House statement, Sydney was on the Larry O'Conner Show. He specifically asked her if she was representing the president. She replied "no, I'm representing We The People". She further clarified she was being paid by the citizens not POTUS.
The following week, Larry correctly pointed out that Sidney's standing was never in question and it was likely to clarify that she is separate and apart post press conference.
