Young leader of massive, ‘unprecedented in history’ sex blackmail ring online is sentenced to 40 years in South Korean prison

The 25-year-old leader of an online sexual blackmail ring was sentenced to 40 years in prison in South Korea after being found guilty of coercing at least 74 women, including 16 minors, into providing sexual imagery of themselves.

Cho Ju-bin, convicted on Thursday, was the head of one of the largest online blackmail operations in the world. Prosecutors initially sought a life sentence for Cho, calling his crimes “unprecedented in history.”

“The defendant lured and threatened multiple victims in various ways to produce pornography, and distributed it for a long time to many people,” the judge said of Cho’s modus operandi, according to the Yonhap news agency, adding, “He in particular inflicted irrecoverable damage to many victims by publishing their identities.”

In what authorities described as “virtual enslavement,” Cho was forcing his dozens of victims to share increasingly explicit, degrading and sometimes violent sexual pictures and videos of themselves. The criminal, going by the online nickname ‘baksa’ (Korean for ‘doctor’), was then distributing the material to the members of his chatroom, ‘Baksabang,’ on the messaging app Telegram.

Cho’s ‘Baksabang’ associates were sentenced to jail time from seven to fifteen years.

The ‘doctor’ had been practicing since May 2019 until February this year, and was sentenced by the Seoul Central District Court for violating criminal and child protection laws, Yonhap reported.

“Thank you for putting a brake on the life of a devil that could not be stopped,” the young criminal mastermind said of his own 40-year-sentence, adding, “I apologize to those who were hurt by me.”

Besides getting decades of prison time, Cho was also fined 10.64 million Korean won ($9,600), and will be wearing a monitoring ankle bracelet for 30 years after being released.

Covid-19 ‘compliance units’ hit Maryland streets after governor says Americans have ‘no constitutional right’ to refuse face masks

Maryland has deployed police “compliance units” across the state to ensure adherence to its Covid-19 restrictions at bars, restaurants and anywhere else people might gather, ramping up enforcement just in time for Thanksgiving.

The “High Visibility Compliance Units,” announced by Republican Governor Larry Hogan earlier this week, hit the streets of Maryland on Wednesday, led by state troopers in coordination with local officials and law enforcement.

The units will “focus on educating the public about existing orders and protocols, preventing super-spreading events, and taking enforcement actions when necessary,” Hogan’s office said in a statement, adding that the patrols would “continue throughout the holiday season.”

In addition to bars and restaurants, the operation will focus on venues that host gatherings, including nightclubs and banquet halls.

Several high-traffic downtown areas across Maryland will see a beefed up police presence, including in Baltimore City, Silver Spring, Bethesda, Bel Air, Fells Point, Allegheny County, Towson and Salisbury – the latter two being college towns with younger populations on average. The units will monitor crowd sizes, mask-wearing and social distancing at indoor venues.

Ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, @MDSP is expanding its COVID-19 Compliance and Coordination Center and deploying High Visibility Compliance Units across the state. This operation will continue throughout the holiday season.

— Governor Larry Hogan (@GovLarryHogan) November 23, 2020

The new push to enforce the coronavirus regulations comes amid another wave of infections in the ongoing pandemic, prompting state and local leaders to enact similar policies across the US, including Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf, who said this week that police would be “stepping up efforts” to enforce a new “Covid-19 safety plan.”

READ MORE: Maryland ups the ante on coronavirus quarantine enforcement with $5,000 fine or one year in PRISON

Hogan has taken a particularly harsh stance toward rule-breakers, insisting residents have no right to refuse to wear a face mask during the health crisis, which he compared to “a constitutional right to drive drunk” or to “yell ‘fire’ in a crowded movie theater.”

We’re talking about a quarter of a million people dying already – more than the Korean War, the Gulf War, and the Vietnam War added together. Which part don’t you understand? You wear the mask. There’s no constitutional right to walk around without a mask. We did it in 1918, I don’t know why we can’t do it now.

BoJo’s new chief of staff Rosenfield is a former Treasury official, ex-Bank of America manager & Jewish World Relief chairman

Dan Rosenfield, an official with the UK Treasury for over a decade, who also occupied top banking jobs and chairs a humanitarian Jewish community group, will soon be stepping in as PM Boris Johnson’s new chief of staff.

Rosenfield’s position was announced on Thursday, and he will begin work at No10 on December 7. Lord Udny-Lister will remain as the acting chief of staff until January 1.

On top of his time with the UK Treasury, Rosenfield was the global head of corporate clients and UK businesses with Hakluyt, a consulting firm for businesses, since 2016. He was also a managing director at Bank of America.

He is also the chairman of World Jewish Relief, a humanitarian agency for the British Jewish community.

His time with the UK Treasury included four years (2007-2011) as principal private secretary to Alistair Darling and George Osborne.

Rosenfield’s appointment follows a public shakeup within Johnson’s inner circle, after top aides Lee Cain and Dominic Cummings resigned. Cain had reportedly been offered the role of chief of staff.

The announcement of Rosenfield’s appointment also comes on the heels of in-fighting in the UK’s Labour Party, which has faced accusations of anti-Semitism. Former party leader Jeremy Corbyn was suspended from the party after dismissing a report from the Equalities and Human Rights Commission, which alleged years of “anti-Semitism” within the party’s ranks. Corbyn was reinstated into the party last week, a move numerous Jewish groups have denounced.

UK Health Secretary’s ex-neighbour & pub acquaintance awarded Covid-19 test-kit contract after chat on WhatsApp – report

UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock's former neighbour has landed a contract to supply millions of Covid-19 vials to the NHS after the two men exchanged messages on WhatsApp, a report says.

Hancock's old acquaintance, Alex Bourne, was awarded the contract to supply medical-grade vials for Covid-19 test kits to the NHS several months ago, the Guardian reported.

Until the end of 2017, Bourne and his wife ran the Cock Inn, a village pub in Thurlow, a few hundred yards from Hancock's former constituency home in Suffolk. Hancock attended its reopening after renovation in 2016, and nominated it for the Parliamentary Pub Chef Awards the following year. The politician even published a photo of himself with Bourne on his campaign website, praising the "fantastic" food served at the Cock Inn.

The Guardian said Bourne's lawyers initially denied that he had any discussions with Hancock about Covid-19 supplies. Bourne later admitted to the paper on Monday that he had, in fact, reached out to Hancock via WhatsApp messenger to offer help in April when the nation was first hit by the pandemic. His first message read: "Hello, it's Alex Bourne from Thurlow."

The pair then exchanged texts and emails over several months, the Guardian said. Bourne also participated in an industry Zoom call with Hancock, Prime Minister Boris Johnson and other suppliers of Covid-19 test equipment in August.

The paper quoted Bourne as saying that he hoped to repurpose his packaging firm Hinpack, which was making plastic cups and takeaway boxes, to make personal protective equipment (PPE). Hancock reportedly advised him to submit the information about his company to the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) website, which he did.

Several weeks later, Bourne was contacted by a "major distributor" of medical equipment that had already been contracted by the NHS and was looking for someone to produce coronavirus-related items, such as drop-wells and pipette tips.

Bourne responded by saying his firm could make vials, and, after consulting with the workers at the DHSC, began producing around two million vials a week, as well as around 500,000 plastic funnels for test samples.

Bourne denied having ever profited from his personal contact with Hancock, while his legal team insisted the men shared no "close personal connection."

"I've never once been to his house," Bourne told the Guardian. "He's never been to mine. I've never once had a drink with him." The DHSC told the paper it was not commenting on Hancock's personal relationships.

Brexit campaign donor Banks gloats after report journalist Carole Cadwalladr 'admits having no evidence’ of his Russia dealings

Brexiteer Arron Banks is celebrating a win against The Observer investigator Carole Cadwalladr, who reportedly admitted in court filings that her claims that money for the Leave campaign came from Russia lacked any evidence.

Cadwalladr won the 2018 Orwell Prize for her reporting on the Cambridge Analytica scandal and big-data influence on the Brexit referendum. Her reports fit like a glove on the overarching narrative, which claims that unfavorable voting outcomes in the West are products of clandestine Russian psyops and cyber action. “Brexit and Trump were intimately entwined … Brexit was the petri dish for Trump,” she said in a TED Talk last year.

One particular person was featured heavily in her reporting. Arron Banks, a prominent donor of the Leave campaign, who was insinuated to be a go-between to pour Russian money into making Britain leave the EU. Banks saw some of the things Cadwalladr said as libelous and filed a lawsuit against her.

The latest hearing on Thursday appears to be a win for the financier. “It’s hugely disappointing that she couldn’t just apologise months ago and draw a line under this whole episode,” he tweeted on Thursday, adding a link to a story at the right-wing website ‘Guido Fawkes.’

It’s hugely disappointing that she couldn’t just apologise months ago and draw a line under this whole episode: This was never about press freedom but the truth .. https://t.co/hciw785f8e

— Arron Banks (@Arron_banks) November 26, 2020

“Cadwalladr finally admitted what we all knew, there was no evidence to back up her claims that the Russians financed the Brexit campaign or that Arron Banks was involved in shady deals with the Russians,” the report said, adding that now she will have to cover £62,000 ($83,000) in court costs.

The story is based on her lawyers allegedly suddenly removing “Truth Defence and the Limitation Defence” on the eve of the hearing.

I understand that you are about to pay me substantial costs for wasting time and money on worthless defences! https://t.co/SJ4BLiNlFH

— Arron Banks (@Arron_banks) November 26, 2020

Fellow Brexiteer Nigel Farage also congratulated Banks on Twitter, while some other critics of the journalist wondered if she should now be stripped of her Orwell award. Cadwalladr is yet to comment on the development, but her recent tweets showcased her distaste for British libel laws and for the “greatest British bloodsport” that they enable.

Trivia sidenote 2: the judge in this libel trial is the same one who presided over my meaning hearing with Arron Banks. (c.f previous comment about libel being greatest British bloodsport)

Trump Lawyer Jenna Ellis Receives Threats: ‘You Deserved to Be Raped’

Jenna Ellis, a legal advisor to President Donald Trump and senior legal adviser to the Trump campaign, has received threats, late night phone calls from unfamiliar numbers, and public calls for her disbarment, she told Breitbart News exclusively Wednesday.

Via direct message (DM), Ellis told Breitbart News that she had received “Hundreds of DMs and messages etc threatening me.”

Some threats have been public, like attempts to have her disbarred and encouraging the public to file Bar complaints.

Others have been more direct — and less subtle.

She added: “CNN reporter messaged today accusing me of my bar license being lapsed. Unknown number has called my cell dozens of times between midnight and 4am to blow up my phone and try to get through the DND [do not disturb].”

Ellis provided Breitbart News with a screen grab of text messages from an unknown person who attempted to provoke her to respond, ending with: “You’re a fking ct. You’re the reason people despise humanity. You deserved to be raped.”

Other Trump attorneys have been harassed, including by the Lincoln Project, a group of Never Trump Republicans who have encouraged the public to harass law firms taking up the president’s case.

The mainstream media has defended these efforts; the Washington Post, for example, published an op-ed Nov. 12 titled “Yes, going after Trump’s law firms is fair game.” Trump’s lawyers in Pennsylvania withdrew the following day, reportedly because of threats.

Joe Biden has not said anything about the threats against Trump’s legal team, as scholar Jonathan Turley has noted.

…While Biden called for unity and healing, he has said nothing about the campaign against Trump lawyers and their clients. No law firms or lawyers have publicly withdrawn their support for the Lincoln Project. The silence speaks loudly to our loss of civility and decency.

— Jonathan Turley (@JonathanTurley) November 19, 2020

“When such actions were taken against lawyers representing civil rights groups and others in the 1960s, it was correctly denounced as an outrageous abuse of our legal system,” Turley tweeted this week. “Now it has become a campaign supported by politicians, lawyers, and the media.”

Report: Dead People Voted in Close Upstate New York Congressional Race

Dead people allegedly voted in a too-close-to-call upstate New York congressional race, according to a county attorney involved with the case.

Rep. Anthony Brindisi (D-NY) is just 12 to 13 votes ahead of Republican challenger Claudia Tenney in the most recent count of votes for New York’s 22nd congressional seat. In question, though, are hundreds of absentee ballots.

Tenney, reports the state, was up by about 27,000 votes before absentee ballots for Brindisi were counted and erased her lead. The New York Post reports that Madison County attorney Tina Wayland-Smith has stated that votes by dead people were cast in the hotly contested race:

Madison County Attorney Tina Wayland-Smith reported that election officials there disqualified absentee ballots filed by three “deceased” voters” in a filing with state Supreme Court Justice Scott Del Conte, who is overseeing the count in Oswego County. [Emphasis added]

“This is a known problem of voting by mail. It should be investigated,” said Doug Kellner, co-chairman of the board, noting that it’s a crime for someone to mail in a ballot in the name of a dead person. [Emphasis added]

“It is an election fraud. It’s a felony,” he said. [Emphasis added]

A 2012 study by Pew Center on the States’ Election Initiatives revealed that there are 24 million ineligible or inaccurate voter registrations on state voter rolls. This means 1-in-8 voter registrations are either no longer valid or invalid.

Scottish Hate Crime Bill to Criminalise Misgendering Trans People

Scotts who pronounce that transgender women are not actually women will face criminal prosecution under the impending hate crime legislation if a court finds that their speech “stirred up hatred”, Justice Secretary Humza Yousaf said.

On Monday, Mr Yousaf tried to defend the draconian speech restrictions, telling the Scottish Parliament’s justice committee that expressing the idea that “a trans woman is not a woman” is not “in itself is not going to lead to a prosecution under this legislation”.

The proposed Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Bill, which “seeks to modernise and extend existing hate crime legislation”, would, however, criminalise the statement if it is found to have been accompanied by anything falling under the vague “stirring up hatred” classification.

“It may well be offensive to some, it may be controversial to others, it may be absolutely the mainstream view for many others, but simply expressing the opinion is not in itself criminal,” Yousaf said in comments reported by The Times.

“If the behaviour that accompanies that expression is proven beyond reasonable doubt that it was intended to stir up hatred and was also threatening or abusive, then, of course, you may well face some criminal sanction,” he said.

The director of For Women Scotland, Susan Smith warned that the legislation would serve to reduce freedom of speech in the country, saying: “When people start throwing around accusations of hate, especially when those people are perceived to have an authority, we think there will be a chilling effect.”

“The stirring up part of this bill has the potential to make life very much harder for a number of people by using this law as a weapon,” Smith warned.

Opponents of the legislation have warned that the legislation could be used to target political campaigns that break with left-wing orthodoxy.

Mr Yousaf also confirmed that the left-wing separatist Scottish National Party (SNP) has no intention of removing the “dwelling defence” clause from his legislation, which seeks to criminalise so-called hate speech within the privacy of Scottish people’s own homes.

“For me the bill isn’t about specifically targeting dinner-table conversations,” he said.

“Of course, if there is a stirring up of hatred that meets the threshold — the behaviour is threatening or abusive under the new offences with intent of stirring up hatred — and that is done round the dinner table with ten of your mates and that can be proven beyond reasonable doubt that would be prosecuted, potentially, under the offence,” Yousaf warned.

The new legislation would add to the already strict hate speech laws in the country, under which police used to launch an investigation last December after a series of “it’s ok to be white” signs were posted in Perth.

EU Threatens to Walk Out of Brexit Talks Unless Britain Accepts Brussels’ Demands

Brexit deal talks are over if Britain will not give in to the European Union’s demands, Brussels’ top man is claimed to have told UK negotiators, as the clock runs down in the final weeks until Britain is expected to finally and fully leave the bloc.

While talks between the European power bloc and its erstwhile member have dragged on for years, they have been fundamentally hobbled from day one by the simple fact that both sides want outcomes so radically different; anything approaching accommodation would ultimately be a betrayal to their own interests.

Evidently exasperated at Britain refusing to yield on its own red lines, the EU’s chief negotiator Michel Barnier is reported to have told his British counterparts that if they did not accommodate his demands within two days, talks would effectively be over, reports The Guardian.

Britain Tells Europe to Show ‘Flexibility’ Amid Warnings Brexit Talks Could ‘Fall Apart’ https://t.co/648cYjzpHT

— Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) November 12, 2020

The paper notes the demand came during a Zoom call on Tuesday — physical talks having been cancelled until later this week due to coronavirus — and that European negotiators might hope that the demand would pile pressure on Boris Johnson to soften his stance.

The claim of Barnier’s demand comes a week after comments from Boris Johnson’s spokesman, who said it remained the opinion of British negotiators that it would be better to leave Europe fully at the end of this year with no deal, as opposed to leaving with a bad deal. The spokesman said: “The PM said he was incredibly confident that the UK will thrive with or without a free trade agreement with the EU.”

Illustrating where friction remained, the spokesman said: “Significant issues remain, particularly on the so-called level playing field and fisheries. We are working hard to find solutions which fully respect UK sovereignty, but it is far from certain that an agreement will prove possible and time is now very short.”

Ultimately, the questions over a deal boil down to how the two sides view the future. British negotiators see a so-called Canada-style relationship between the UK and the EU, where both parties trade freely but where Britain is an independent nation and free to make its own way in the world, as is typical for sovereign states. For the European Union, the post-Brexit world should be as similar to the pre-Brexit one as possible, with Britain bound to obeying certain European rules and restrictions.

Ga. Sen. Perdue boosts wealth with well-timed stock trades

As the ravages of the novel coronavirus forced millions of people out of work, shuttered businesses and shrank the value of retirement accounts, the Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged to a three-year low.

But for Sen. David Perdue, a Georgia Republican, the crisis last March signaled something else: a stock buying opportunity.

And for the second time in less than two months, Perdue’s timing was impeccable. He avoided a sharp loss and reaped a stunning gain by selling and then buying the same stock: Cardlytics, an Atlanta-based financial technology company on whose board of directors he once served.

On Jan. 23, as word spread through Congress that the coronavirus posed a major economic and public health threat, Perdue sold off $1 million to $5 million in Cardlytics stock at $86 a share, according to congressional disclosures.

Weeks later, in March, after the company’s stock plunged following an unexpected leadership shakeup and lower-than-forecast earnings, Perdue bought the stock back for $30 a share, investing between $200,000 and $500,000.

Those shares have now quadrupled in value, closing at $121 a share on Tuesday.

The Cardlytics transactions were just a slice of a large number of investment decisions made in the early days of the pandemic by Perdue and other senators. They stirred public outrage after it became clear that some members of Congress had been briefed on the economic and health threat the virus posed. The transactions were mentioned briefly in a story published by the Intercept in May.

Now that Perdue is locked in a pitched battle for reelection in a Jan. 5 runoff, his trades during a public health and economic crisis have become an issue in what already has become a negative, expensive campaign that will determine which party controls the Senate.

There is no definitive proof that Perdue, who is among the wealthier members of the Senate, acted on information gained as a member of Congress or through his long-standing relationship with company officials. It’s illegal to use nonpublic information gained as a company insider or member of Congress to make investment decisions.

But legal experts say the timing of his sale, the fact that he quickly bought Cardlytics stock back when it had lost two-thirds of its market value and his close ties to company officials all warrant scrutiny.

“This does seem suspicious,” said John C. Coffee Jr., a Columbia University law school professor who specializes in corporate and securities issues. But he added, “You need more than suspicions to convict.”

Power Is An Illusion, Control Is A Facade

This past year in numerous countries the public is being bombarded with lessons in power and control that have been forgotten for generations. I think the majority of westerners in particular have long believed themselves “safe” from totalitarian government, from collectivist micro-management and from communistic cultism. They thought we had moved beyond the nightmares of the 20th century. They thought that the “new world” was going to be more Utopian, and that freedom would grace us naturally along with technological progress.

Sure, in the back of everyone’s subconscious there is the fear that the good times are an illusion and that dystopia is just behind a thin veneer of economic stability and false optimism, but most people do not really think such catastrophes will happen in their lifetime. We are now in the midst of a deliberately over-hyped pandemic, strict national lockdowns, civil unrest, riots, aggressive tech censorship, intrusive government censorship, unprecedented corporate and treasury debt, stagflationary central bank stimulus and the collapse of massive financial bubbles. Yet, I still don’t get the impression that many in the public really grasp the extent of the danger; they still believe that the situation is going to heal itself without any effort or much sacrifice on their part.

This is the first lesson of power: Entire societies can be easily influenced when they suffer from delusions that the bad times will be fleeting, and that governments will keep them safe no matter what.

It is a historically proven pattern that governments tend to CREATE problems instead of solving them, and this is because the power dynamic of government never changes. The politicians we “vote” for are not in control, rather, the elites who fund their campaigns and who permeate their cabinets are in control. Political representatives come and go, but the establishment elites never leave. Therefore, the problems our society faces will remain; they are a direct result of the subversive and perpetual power structure that serves the interest of a select minority rather than the public. The decline of our society into tyranny will not stop until this power structure and the people behind it are erased.

LGBT Group Lobbies For PA Health Secretary Dr. 'Rachel' Levine To Be Surgeon General

An LGBT advocacy group is lobbying for Pennsylvania’s Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine to be the surgeon general in a future Biden administration.

“I think there is a value in giving visibility to doctors like Dr. Levine who are kind of unique in their field. Not just because of their demographics and who they are but also because of their expertise,” said Robin Gonzalez of the Victory Institute, according to local WLVR.

“We also know that when people know LGBTQ people it makes them more open to supporting our equality,” added Gonzalez, who claims to have been in contact with Levine recently.

Since the Clinton administration, the Victory Institute has been advising presidents on how best to appoint LGBT people to the highest echelons of government.

Levine has taken flak for how the coronavirus pandemic was handled in Pennsylvania.

As The Daily Wire reported:

Back in March, Levine ordered nursing homes and long-term care facilities in Pennsylvania to continue to accept coronavirus-positive patients who had been discharged from hospitals and were unable to return to their homes, according to the Bucks County Courier Times.

“On March 29, as Pennsylvania, New York and other states began ordering nursing homes to admit medically stable residents infected with the coronavirus, national trade groups warned it could unnecessarily cost more lives,” the outlet reported. “The health directives put ‘frail and older adults who reside in nursing homes at risk’ and would ‘result in more people going to the hospital and more deaths,’ the American Health Care Association and affiliates said at the time.”

DoJ appeals federal judge's ruling that Donald Trump cannot be removed as defendant in rape accuser E. Jean Carroll's defamation lawsuit

The Justice Department is appealing a judge's refusal to let the United States replace President Donald Trump as the defendant in a defamation lawsuit brought by a woman who says he raped her in the 1990s.

Department attorneys notified U.S. District Judge Lewis A. Kaplan of its plans Wednesday to ask the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan to consider the judge's decision.

Kaplan concluded last month in a written decision that Trump's June 19 statements about columnist E. Jean Carroll didn't constitute an official act of the presidency and were outside the scope of his employment as president.

Substituting the United States for Trump would leave taxpayers responsible for any payout in the case.

Carroll's attorney, Roberta Kaplan, said in a statement that the Justice Department appeal was not a surprise because, from the start of the case, 'Donald Trump's number one goal has been to avoid discovery and cause delay.'

She said it remains to be seen if the new attorney general 'will agree that Trump was acting within the scope of his employment as President when he defamed our client.'

Still, she added, Carroll's attorneys are confident that the 2nd Circuit will uphold the judge's 'comprehensive and well-reasoned opinion.'

Justice Department attorneys say Trump had to respond in June 2019 to accusations Carroll made against him in a book because the claims related to his fitness for office.

Carroll has said Trump raped her in a luxury department store dressing room a quarter century ago after they randomly crossed paths and engaged in conversation as each recognized the other's measure of fame.
