plastic is made from petroleum. several hundred million pounds of new plastic every year. since it's petroleum, most of it COULD be turned back into a liquid hydrocarbon fuel quite easily, if they would just invest a little R&D on it. or we could have "recycled" plastic park benches spaced every 10 feet, lining the interstate highways from coast to coast. equally good idea.
