A Michigan Senate committee will meet next week to review vote counting in Detroit, a move that comes after the Trump campaign announced that there would be legislative hearings in multiple battleground states to probe election results and irregularities.

The Michigan Senate Oversight Committee is scheduled to meet on Dec. 1, with the agenda indicating that members will hear testimony about absentee ballot counting at Detroit’s TCF Center, the site of Election Day drama and ensuing protests over what some alleged was a fraudulent process.

Commenting on the hearing, spokeswoman for state Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey (R-Clarklake) told Detroit Free Press that the event was previously planned and “is not at all related” to the Trump campaign’s election-related efforts in Michigan.

Michigan officially certified its election results on Monday, handing victory in the state to Democrat Joe Biden, although attorney Sidney Powell filed a lawsuit on Wednesday, alleging voter fraud with the complicity of state officials and asking the courts to order the results de-certified.

The Obama administration allowed the Chinese firm to gain a foothold in the U.S. through its Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. (CFIUS), allowing BGI to acquire the California-based firm Complete Genomics.

The 2012 deal was highly controversial, seen by many as a national security threat as it granted a Chinese company access to the genetic data of millions of Americans. Any company in China – public or private – can be requisitioned by the Chinese Communist Party to “support, assist, and cooperate with state intelligence work.”

And these concerns have re-emerged in response to the firm offering coronavirus test kits to states nationwide – market access made possible by Biden and Obama’s CFIUS greenlight.

Officials from the U.S. State Department and Department of Homeland Security were forced to warn authorities in Nevada to refuse using any of the 250,000 coronavirus test kits donated by BGI.

According to documents obtained by the Associated Press, the correspondence “illustrate how the U.S. government actively — if quietly — tried to keep the state out of a project involving the Chinese firm BGI Group.” These warnings “led the office of Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak in April to direct a Nevada hospital not to use any of the donated 250,000 test kits as officials turned down an offered laboratory deal.”

Dr. Mohsen Fakhrizadeh-Mahabadi, the scientist alleged to be in charge of Iran’s nuclear weapons program, was reportedly assassinated Friday morning outside of Iran.

In addition to serving as a professor of physics at Imam Hussein University in Tehran, Fakhrizadeh-Mahabadi was also a former brigadier general in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and held a senior Defense Ministry position at the time of his death.

The assassination claim was originally made by Iranian state-run media and was shortly confirmed by Western news outlets, including the Associated Press. No country or group has yet taken credit for Fakhrizadeh-Mahabadi’s death, although Iranian media blamed Israel.

Jagmeet Singh challenged the firebrand representative from New York known as AOC to a round of Among Us, a popular online multiplayer game, and she accepted.

Ocasio-Cortez livestreamed her debut on the game last month in an effort to lure younger voters to the polls for the Nov. 3 election. The session on the gaming platform Twitch attracted a staggering 439,000 viewers.

Friday's matchup, which will also stream on Twitch, begins at 7 p.m. ET.
