For years all we heard was what a piece of shit the F-35 was. Meanwhile they quietly kept building them, fixing bugs, and making it even more lethal. I love it.
There's a very good video from pilots somewhere on youtube explaining the concept of "kill chain" as it relates to fighter aircraft operations. Fucking brilliant, as is the plane.
I'm not a gamer but there are some cool simulation vids online where guys will go up against various planes, with the performance and systems all simulated as accurately as possible.
Watched a funny one where a guy in a SU-something goes up against a F-22. For several minutes of it, he can see his threat detection meter climbing, as he successfully outmaneuvers 2 long range missile shots. Meanwhile the 22 keeps getting closer, and he never even gets a blip of it on radar, or any visual ID on it. He didn't survive the 3rd shot.
It painted a pretty serious picture for anyone in a Gen 4 fighter going up against Gen 5.
