AR15 SBR in 5.56x45mm (10.5) barrel length minimum (suppressed) would be the most ideal home defense weapon. 5.56 would be less likely to over penetrate when using the right ammo. Additionally AR-15 ergonomics and recoil are great.

AK is great as well, little more difficult to suppress however the 5.45x39mm is a fantastic round. The Soviet's answer to our 5.56x45mm..
Own both 7.62x39mm & 5.45x39mm AK variants..
However, the AR-15 is far more modular than the AK..
