Probably actually a smaller number of planes making multiple flights each. Dropping off and then flying an orbit holding pattern. Each would be capable of carrying around 20-30 passengers. Forty Ospreys in one or two lifts would lift about 800 troops if my sums are right. No way that many troops would've been deployed.
