Chinese Government Stepping Up Propaganda to Change COVID Origin Story

The Chinese Communist government is stepping up its PR campaign to try and convince the world that the coronavirus did not originate in the Chinese city of Wuhan a year ago, but was brought to China from elsewhere.

Their efforts have been, at the very least, creative.

Their latest gambit is to promote the story that the coronavirus traveled to China via frozen food imports — a nearly impossible feat, say epidemiologists. The communist propagandists have pointed the finger at Italy, India, and on “many continents” before the poor Chinese became victims of the coronavirus. They see China as a double victim: unwitting patients got sick from a virus that arrived from elsewhere and then were unfairly blamed for starting it.

It probably works with the Chinese masses, but with few others.

Guardian:

“Wuhan was where the coronavirus was first detected but it was not where it originated,” it quoted Zeng Guang, formerly a chief epidemiologist at the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, as saying. A foreign ministry spokesman, asked about state media reports that the virus originated outside China, said only that it was important to distinguish between where Covid-19 was first detected and where it crossed the species barrier to infect humans.

“Although China was the first to report cases, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the virus originated in China,” Zhao Lijian told a briefing. “Origin tracing is an ongoing process that may involve multiple countries and regions.”

This isn’t necessarily false, but China has been resisting that kind of investigation for months. Now all of a sudden they want to cooperate with the rest of the world? It’s just more PR flak because if investigators ever got close to the truth, China would find a way to shut it down quickly.

Claims that the virus had origins outside China are given little credence by western scientists. Michael Ryan, director of the health emergencies programme at the World Health Organization (WHO), said last week that it would be “highly speculative” to argue that the disease did not emerge in China. “It is clear from a public health perspective that you start your investigations where the human cases first emerged,” he told a news briefing in Geneva.

The WHO has recently announced a full-blown investigation into the origins of the coronavirus with a blue-ribbon panel of experts heading up the project.

South China Morning Post:

The 10-person team includes public health experts, animal health specialists and virus hunters from Japan, Qatar, Germany, Vietnam, Russia, Australia, Denmark, the Netherlands, Britain and the United States.

They will work alongside Chinese scientists on a set of investigations into how the virus that causes Covid-19 emerged and spilled over into humans, triggering a pandemic that has now claimed over 1.4 million lives.

Most importantly, the international team will include cutting edge scientists who study the emergence of diseases as they travel from animals to humans.

It includes several researchers who have focused on the animal and environmental roles of disease emergence – Ken Maeda of Japan’s National Institute of Infectious Diseases, Vietnamese scientist Hung Nguyen, co-leader of the Animal and Human Health Programme at the International Livestock Research Institute, and virus hunter Fabian Leendertz of Germany’s Robert Koch Institut. Among them is also disease ecologist Peter Daszak, known for his research into Sars-like bat coronaviruses in southeastern China and president of US group EcoHealth Alliance. Daszak is also heading a separate task force looking into the virus origins under The Lancet scientific journal’s Covid-19 Commission.

This will be the key that unlocks the mystery of the coronavirus’s origins. The question is, will China let them get that far? After fighting for a year to shift blame for the virus’s origins to everyone but themselves, I find it difficult to believe that the Chinese communists will suddenly develop an interest in getting to the bottom of the coronavirus detective story. They have too much invested in lying about its origins to give up now.

Expect this team of experts to eventually give up in disgust at China’s stonewalling.

Los Angeles enacts new lockdown, report says county spent millions of CARES Act funds on PR firms

'… money that should be going to restaurants'

Los Angeles County officials announced Friday a new lockdown that bans most public and private gatherings amid a global surge of coronavirus cases.

Reacting to the new stay-at-home order, KTTV-TV reporter Bill Melugin reminded area residents that LA officials used some of the money they received from the CARES Act, which was meant to help struggling businesses and residents, on "remarkably ineffective PR firms."

"A reminder that L.A. County is using some of the federal CARES Act money it receives, money that should be going to restaurants @lapublichealth just closed, to instead pay for portions of their remarkably ineffective PR firms, now costing $2.9 million," Melugin said.

Los Angeles County Department of Public Health announced that, beginning Monday Nov. 30, all public and private gatherings will be prohibited through Dec. 20. Only members of the same household will be permitted to gather together during the lockdown, according to the Los Angeles Times.

"Residents are advised to stay home as much as possible and always wear a face covering over their nose and mouth when they are outside their household and around others," the health department said.

Protests and religious activities are exempt from the order.

More from the LA Times:

[The lockdown order] imposes new occupancy limits on businesses, such as personal care and retail, but does not close them. Beaches, trails and parks will remain open, but gatherings of people from more than one household at those sites are banned. The announcement came just two days after restaurants in much of L.A. County were ordered to suspend outdoor dining. That decision sparked a backlash from restaurant owners and some elected officials, who called the rules too punishing for the already struggling industry.

What about CARES Act spending?

According to KTTV, Los Angeles County recently extended agreements with two PR firms — Mercury Public Affairs and Fraser Communications — for "emergency COVID-19 communications assistance."

Part of the job the PR firms have been tasked with is "recruiting celebrity influencers" to promote COVID news on social media.

More from KTTV:

The County is now paying both firms a total of $2.9 million, a 650% increase from when the contracts were first signed seven months ago, and according to Fraser's contract, L.A. County is using federal CARES Act money to offset the cost of the contract through the end of 2020. County funds will pay for it through 2021.

Los Angeles County entered into business with the PR firms "despite the fact that the county has a fully staffed county communications team," KTTV noted.

Russia accused of 'hypocrisy' after attacking Australia over Afghanistan war crimes report

Russia says Australia's commitment to a rules-based world order cannot be taken seriously following the release of damning findings of alleged war crimes committed by special forces in Afghanistan.

Key points:

Russia claims the "truly shocking" Afghanistan war crimes report has undermined Australia's international standing

The comments are similar to criticism made by China's Foreign Ministry in recent days

Critics say the comments are the "height of hypocrisy" given Moscow's recent global actions

The ABC has uncovered recent comments by the Russian Foreign Ministry in which it claimed Australian soldiers accused of murdering civilians and prisoners would not be "held accountable".

Earlier this month, Australian Defence Force Chief Angus Campbell released the Brereton report, which found special forces had committed at least 39 unlawful killings during the Afghanistan war.

"This is a truly shocking report," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said in prepared remarks at a press briefing conducted in Russian late last week.

"The circumstances make us truly doubt the genuine capacity of Australian authorities to actually hold accountable all the servicemen who are guilty of such crimes."

The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson claimed Australia's credibility on the world stage had been shattered by the revelations.

"It makes us reassess the true meaning of the official line pronounced by Canberra to protect the rules-based world order," Ms Zakharova said.

The reckoning for alleged crimes is about to begin

The soldiers of the SAS have been held up as heroes, yet a small number of them are being accused of the most heinous of crimes, including the murder of innocents, writes Mark Willacy.

Russia's comments were delivered just hours after China's Foreign Ministry similarly attacked Australia over the Brereton report findings.

"The facts revealed by this report fully exposed the hypocrisy of the 'human rights' and 'freedom' these Western countries are always chanting," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said on Friday.

Diplomatic relations between Australia and Russia have been particularly strained since the 2014 downing of a Malaysian Airlines flight carrying 298 passengers over Ukraine.

Last month Moscow withdrew from talks with Australia and the Netherlands, accusing both countries of not wanting to establish what really happened when MH17 was brought down by a Russian-made missile fired from territory held by pro-Russian rebels.

All those on board, including 39 Australians, died.

Australian Strategic Policy Institute executive director Peter Jennings called the latest comments from the Russian Government the "height of hypocrisy".

Oregon Gym Fined $90,000 For Staying Open During Covid Shutdown, As County Commissioners Take Trips To Hawaii

OSHA has fined a Salem, Oregon, gym $90,000 for daring to keep their business open during Democrat Governor Kate Brown’s arbitrary covid shutdown orders. Courthouse Club Fitness, which has five locations in the Salem area, opted to defy the orders and remain open, citing the need to do so in order to remain in business. The club’s owner, John Miller, posted this since-deleted letter to their facebook page, explaining what is going on:

His reward for trying to hold onto his livelihood, provide for his employees, and serve his customers is OHSA inspectors levying a multitude of fines against his gyms. KGW reports:

The Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has fined Courthouse Club Fitness $90,000 for keeping four Salem area locations open during Oregon’s statewide COVID-19 freeze, which began Nov. 18.

The total amount of the fine is the result of citations against each of the four Courthouse Club Fitness facilities. Each inspection resulted in a $22,500 fine; a $17,500 “willful penalty” for being open to the public and $5,000 for violating “red warning notices” the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services said it posted at each location last week, according to spokesperson Mark Peterson.

Daily penalties are possible in the future if Courthouse Club Fitness doesn’t comply with Gov. Brown’s executive order, which limited gatherings and closed certain businesses statewide, including gyms. The maximum fine for a “willful penalty” is $126,749, Peterson said.

KGW also provided a video report as the recent “two week freeze” was starting:

During this “freeze”, 11,000 hysterical Karens have snitched on businesses that are apparently violating Her Majesty’s orders. There also appears to be little data that suggests that the shutdown orders have stopped the spread of the virus, as Willamette Week reported.

Meanwhile, county commissioners in Oregon who have continually parroted Governor Brown’s orders and pleas to leave home as little as possible have been caught taking luxurious vacations to Hawaii during the shutdown. The Oregonian reports:

As coronavirus cases surged in Oregon, county commissioners representing some of the most hard-hit areas in the state decided to travel — two to Hawaii and one to Mexico.

While two of the trips began before Gov. Kate Brown’s “freeze” travel advisory went into effect, the optics of taking these vacations while Brown was asking Oregonians to take all available precautions to stem the tide of the disease, is causing some county workers and members of the public to wonder about a double standard.

KGW reported Monday that Multnomah County Commissioner Sharon Meieran called in to public meetings from her vacation in Hawaii earlier this month.

On the same day, another area commissioner was also on vacation in Hawaii, KGW reported.

Washington County Commissioner Dick Schouten joined a Zoom meeting that day, the TV station reported, while wearing a Hawaiian shirt and talking about how great the weather was.

He said he was three days into his vacation at that point. Schouten told KGW Tuesday that he was back from Hawaii and was quarantining for two weeks.

During the same meeting, Washington County Commissioner Jerry Wiley announced that he was leaving for Mexico on Nov. 16. KGW reported that a county spokesperson said he would be back Dec. 1.

Wiley’s trip came after the governor joined California and Washington governors on Nov. 13 in urging people not to travel unless it is essential.

All three officials are facing backlash, but possibly none as much as Meieran, a practicing ER doctor, who told Willamette Week on Nov. 12, from her Hawaiian vacation, that Brown should impose another, tougher, statewide lockdown.

“At this point, I think the only thing that’s going to work is really not a pause but a real shutdown,” Meieran told Willamette Week.

Meieran didn’t appear to see any problem with her vacation, even as many Oregonians are forgoing planned trips to see family over the Thanksgiving weekend.

“I really am sorry and regret what this has become, and I should have thought it through more,” Meieran told The Portland Tribune on Tuesday. “Not because of any COVID risk, but because of the whole distraction.”

As we all know, the edicts and orders only apply to us peasants. The political class is exempt and can do whatever they want. Because reasons.

Shakedown: Boris Govt to Pay France £28m to Start Stopping More Boat Migrants

Home Secretary Priti Patel has announced that British taxpayers will be handing over £28 million to France to cajole them into stopping so many illegal aliens from pouring across the English Channel on small boats.

Patel, whose Home Office is the government department with broad responsibility for border control, immigration, policing, and national security, announced the signing of the new deal as if it were a triumph, boasting that it will pay for the French to “double number of police on beaches”, invest in “cutting-edge” surveillance tech, boost security in their ports, and, perhaps most controversially, upgrade migrants’ accommodation on the French side of the Channel.

Pro-borders campaigners and voters have been calling for the British authorities to simply start turning back migrant boats at sea, as the Australians did when they were facing a similar surge in illegal crossings, since at least 2018, when Patel’s predecessor Sajid Javid first declared a “major incident” in the Channel.

Boris Johnson’s administration still appears to be refusing to countenance this — but attempts to buy off the French to control illegal migration on their end have failed before, with the current crisis following previous payouts for them to upgrade security around Calais etc.

Indeed, the Road Haulage Association (RHA) has previously accused the French of simply “switching off” British-bought equipment intended to detect illegal migrants entering Britain by lorry — an issue which has received less coverage as boat crossings have come to the fore, although it has not gone away.

“The French don’t want migrants to stay in France. They don’t want to provide asylum – in fact, they don’t want to deal with the issue at all,” said RHA chief executive Richard Burnett in 2018.

A similarly permissive attitude has been observed with respect to boat migrants, with French ships being observed simply shadowing migrant votes discovered in their territory into British waters by Nigel Farage and, later, mainstream media journalists, with the French sometimes claiming migrants would threaten to throw children overboard if they got too close.

Neither the French or British authorities have ever announced they were pursuing charges against anyone for such crimes, however.

Trump Says DoJ, FBI May Have Been In On Large-scale Voter Fraud

The Trump campaign has accused Democrat Party officials in half a dozen battleground states of widespread election fraud, mostly involving mail-in ballots. Democrats, most legacy media, and even some Republicans have dismissed the allegations and urged the President to concede defeat.

President Donald Trump has accused the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation of possibly being 'in on' the alleged plot to steal the election from him.

"This is total fraud and how the FBI and the Department of Justice, I don't know, maybe they're involved, but how people are allowed to get away with this stuff is unbelievable. This election was rigged. This election was a total fraud," Trump alleged, speaking to Fox News in a telephone interview Sunday morning.

"They've been there a long time. Some of them have served a lot of different presidents, and they have their own views. All I can say is… with all the fraud that's taken place, nobody has come to me and said 'the FBI has nabbed the people that are doing this scheme,'" he added. The President went on to complain that the FBI and the DoJ have yet to investigate Obama-era officials' potential illegal activities, including spying on the Trump campaign in 2016.

"Where are they with Comey, with McCabe, with Brennan, with all these people? They lied to Congress, they lied, they leaked… Where are they with all this stuff?" Trump asked, referring to former FBI Director James Comey, former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, and former CIA director John Brennan and their roles in instigating Russiagate.

Suggesting that the world was watching what's going on in the United States regarding the election fraud allegations, Trump said that he's had leaders of other countries calling him up and saying the 3 November vote was "the most messed-up election we've ever seen."

'Hundreds and Hundreds of Affidavits'

Going through his campaign's claims, Trump pointed to alleged widespread fraud involving mail-in ballots, including cases of people receiving multiple ballots, dead people 'voting' and requesting applications to vote, so-called 'glitches' of Dominion voting machines which shifted thousands of votes from Trump to Biden, and problems of poll watchers being "thrown out" of counting rooms in major Democrat strongholds. Trump insisted his campaign had "hundreds and hundreds" of sworn affidavits to back up these allegations.
