Diggs on Ironline Compression, owned by Staple Street Capital, which is also HQ'd in Canada

Ironline is the leading provider of gas compressors in Canada and mechanical service to the Canadian energy industry. It has locations in Calgary, Nisku, Edson, and Grand Prairie, where the oil and gas industry operates heavily in Canada. It is registered in Nova Scotia so that it can operate as a foreign entity (similarly to how Dominion Voting was registered in QC).

Ironline Compression has a long history of different names:

1940 – James Barber incorporated his new company, Barber Industries.

1991 – Cherco Compressors Ltd. through its parent company Enterra, bought the fabrication division of Barber Industries. Operations became Cherco-Barber Ltd., an Enterra Compression Company.

1995 – Weatherford International Inc. and Enterra merged to form Weatherford Enterra Inc.

1998 – Weatherford Enterra Inc. merged with EVI. The new parent corporation became Weatherford International Inc., with more than 6,000 employees in over 300 locations around the world.

1999 – Weatherford Compression formed a joint venture with Global Compression to become Weatherford Global Compression Services, one of the world’s largest suppliers of compression equipment and services.

2001 – Weatherford Global Compression Services merged with Universal Holdings Inc. to form Universal Compression Inc.

2007 – Hanover Compression Company and Universal Compression Holdings merged to create Exterran.

2013 – Exterran Canada was acquired by Staple Street Capital and renamed Ironline Compression.

Today Ironline Compression has been headed by Tim Kellley as CEO since Nov 2013. According to Kelley's LinkedIn profile, his prior work experience has been based in the US after he graduated in 1985 from the DeVry University in Texas with a BS in Electronics Engineering. He has worked on "transformation" projects in the US, China, and Canada. He has worked in Operations for General Motors for 12 years, Gulf States Toyota Vehicle Processing Center for 8 years, and other operational roles at AutoNation, Rexam Beverage Cans (American National Can), Flex-N-Gate (Ventra Plastics), United Plastics Group, and Injectronics.

In 2014, corporate filings of Ironline Compression indicate that in addition to Stephen Owens and Hootan Yaghoobzadeh being the Directors (same as Dominion Voting); the individuals below were also directors:

  • David Gillett, CFO

  • Joe Grubic, Director

Today, corporate filings of Ironline Compression also indicate that Stephen Owens and Hootan Yaghoobzadeh are Directors. What has changed?

  • Added director: Andre Ohnona

  • Removed directors: David Gillett and Joe Grubic

David Gillett and Joe Grubic now are on the leadership team of CDN Controls, a full-service instrumentation and electrical services provider in Western Canada. Gillett is the CFO and Grubic is the Director of Business Process Management. Interesting, Grubic spent 16 years at Nortel; during his last two years at Nortel as Director of Business Integration (CDMA, LTE, and GSM) and Director of Global Supply Management, he was also a Director for Guangdong Nortel Telecommunications Equipment Co. Ltd. in Shunde, China. It shows on Grubic's LinkedIn that he only worked as a Management Consultant at Ironline during the time of Aug 2013 to Feb 2015.

Here's the kicker…Andre Ohnona worked at Staple Street Capital in 2010-2018 in NYC, with his last role being Principal. In Jun 2018, he returned back to Pa-Co Lighting in Quebec as EVP, a company that he worked for earlier in his career. Pa-Co Lighting supplies LED luminaries for commercial, industrial and specialty applications, including for correctional facilities, healthcare, and more. Ohnona also appears to be VP of Mid-States Supply in Kansas, which was bought out by Staple Street Capital in 2016 as Mid-States was entering Chapter 11. Mid-States Supply is a pipe, valve, and fittings supplier.
