Democrat Jon Ossoff Signals Support for Georgia Lockdown: ‘It’s Time to Trust the Experts’

Georgia Democrat Senate candidate Jon Ossoff said on CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday that he would support a statewide lockdown of businesses to address coronavirus spread if public health experts indicate a need for “stronger mitigation measures,” remarking that “it’s time to trust the experts.”

Ossoff, who is challenging Republican Sen. David Perdue in Georgia’s race for U.S. Senate, told CNN host Dana Bash, “The problem we’ve had all year is that politicians have been suppressing and ignoring public health advice. It’s time to trust the experts, listen to public health professionals in a public health crisis.”

Bash said the White House Coronavirus Task Force has already indicated that “this is the moment to dramatically increase mitigation” due to a resurgence of the virus. Bash asked Ossoff, “So would you support harsher restrictions in Georgia, like closing restaurants and businesses temporarily?”

The Georgia Democrat responded, “I think we should follow the expertise of public health experts like those of the CDC, which is based here in Georgia, and if that is the consensus of the public health community, we need to take that advice very seriously.”

Bash further pressed, “So if they said, ‘Shut things down temporarily,’ you’d be all for it?” to which Ossoff replied, “If the CDC and its leadership gave us strong indication that those kinds of stronger mitigation measures are necessary to save lives and contain the spread of the virus, it would be malpractice for politicians to ignore that advice.”

The Worldometer reports that Georgia currently has 162,886 active cases of the novel coronavirus, or 1.5 percent, of the state’s population of 10,617,423. At its peak, Georgia saw 6,209 new daily cases reported on November 21. Since then, new daily cases have substantially dropped, with the latest data showing 1,953 new daily cases reported on November 29.

Ossoff said the spread of the virus “is out of control” and claimed people, including incumbent Perdue, have disregarded advice of public health experts. “The problem is we’ve ignored the public health experts, so I’ll be listening to them and not to political consultants, pollsters, or folks looking out for their own financial interests, like my opponent.”

Raphael Warnock: Opioid Crisis Only a Public Health Emergency Because ‘the Faces of Human Tragedy Are White and Suburban’

Georgia Democrat Senate candidate Raphael Warnock said in 2019 that the opioid crisis was only treated as a “public health emergency” and not a “war” because the “faces of the human tragedy are white and suburban.”

During a sermon at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2019, Warnock claimed that America treated the crack epidemic and the opioid crisis differently because the opioid primarily affected white Americans.

Warnock said, “At least it was a war when the drug was crack. And the bodies were black and brown … But now that we are talking about opioids and meth and the faces of the human tragedy are white and suburban, suddenly we have a public health emergency.”

Warnock hopes to unseat Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) during the January Senate runoffs.

Warnock’s comments were received with applause at the church.

Warnock continued his analogy, noting that the crack epidemic was treated as a “war,” with “enemy combatants, prisoners of war,” and “militarized weapons of war on civilian streets.” In contrast, Warnock said that the opioid crisis has “patients.”

“There is a spiritual sickness affecting all of America in the cities and the rural areas and the suburbs,” Warnock added.

Warnock then described the spiritual sickness in Marxist terms, contending that “there is an aching void that cannot be filled with consumeristic preoccupations filled with getting the next thing.”

The Georgia Democrat also lamented the existence of “religion garbed in the garments of capitalism.”

He added that there were “preachers even in Black churches who say that if you trust God and you’ll have a bigger house and a bigger car and getting our folk in more and more debt.”

He added that many were “consumed in more and more oppression,” you charged, “You ought to say no to the lie!”

1. Trump exceeded his original vote count by the largest margin for any incumbent in American history. He got 10 million more votes than before; by contrast, Obama, in 2012, got 3.5 million fewer votes than in 2008.

1. Trump's support among blacks grew by 50%, while Biden's fell below the important 90% mark that Democrat candidates need to secure victory.

1. In the Rust Belt, Biden lost black support everywhere except in Detroit, Philadelphia, and Milwaukee. In those cities, every single black person apparently voted for Biden.

Peru Orders a Retrial for Top Member of US-Serbian Drug Gang

One of the highest ranking members of Group America, a prolific US-Serbian drug gang, may soon be set free from his prison cell in Peru after a criminal court of appeals ruled that he was denied due process, local media reported on Friday.

Zoran Jaksić, 61, was arrested in Peru in July of 2016 after evading justice for years through the use of 40 identities. He was sentenced to 25 years in jail, but appealed the ruling and was granted a retrial after an appellate court found that the judge had been impartial.

The burly Serbian trafficker, who stands at over two meters tall, along with eight others investigated, has been issued three months of house arrest in the interim.

As detailed in an OCCRP investigation, Jaksić was discovered by Peruvian police as part of a longer-running operation targeting a group of home-grown drug traffickers. When they identified him, they realized that they had uncovered a much more high-profile criminal.

“We had no idea such a big player was involved,” a police official told OCCRP in September. “We don’t have players like him in Peru. He is the Champions League.”

After being apprehended and incarcerated, an OCCRP journalist visited him in his cell, where she discovered that his financial resources afforded him amenities that include two smartphones, allowing him to continue to manage his drug operation.

“You can buy everything here. I have a television. They bring me all the food I want from outside. A bottle of whiskey costs a hundred dollars, plus bribes,” he told her.

Jaksić, if released, has an extradition request from Greece over a 2007 drug trafficking charge. He also faces trial in Italy for his alleged involvement in a drug smuggling operation relying on a cruise ship that picked up a shipment in Venice.

His long history of evading authorities is part of his gang’s larger documented history of impunity.

Group America’s alleged leader, Mileta Miljanić, continues to live freely in a townhouse in New York City, despite also being a wanted man in Italy.

China doubles down on Twitter attack over alleged ADF war crimes

China has doubled down on its attack over alleged war crimes committed by Australian soldiers after Prime Minister Scott Morrison demanded an apology over an inflammatory social media post.

On Monday, a member of the Chinese foreign ministry published a politically provocative and insulting fake image depicting an Australian soldier holding a knife to the throat of a child.

Mr Morrison immediately requested Beijing apologise for the post, however the Chinese foreign ministry hit back overnight saying Australia should be ashamed over the alleged crimes committed in Afghanistan.

Arizona certifies Biden winner of 2020 election despite Trump challenges

Arizona’s state government has certified Democrat Joe Biden as the winner of the 2020 presidential election, opening the door for further legal challenges by the Trump administration’s lawyers.

Secretary of State Katie Hobbs officially certified Biden as the winner in the battleground state of Arizona on Monday, with several other state politicians including Governor Doug Ducey attending as witnesses.

The certification kicks off a five-day period during which anyone can contest the results. State Republican Party chairwoman Kelli Ward announced she would be in court Monday with a lawsuit already filed in order to secure documents she hopes to use to challenge Biden’s victory.

Trump is expected to challenge the results both in Arizona and Wisconsin, which also plans to certify Biden’s victory on Monday. Most of his post-Election Day legal challenges have been thrown out, though recently-dismissed Trump legal team member Sidney Powell filed a massive lawsuit of her own last week alleging sweeping voter fraud.

The Trump legal team has already dropped one suit against Arizona that sought to have all ballots cast on Election Day reviewed. While lawyers had initially suspected Trump votes were discarded as “overvotes,” the number of actual overvotes was found to be relatively minimal, and the remaining unreviewed ballots would not have been able to exceed Biden’s margin of victory.

Arizona has been in particular focus since Fox News – normally the most pro-Trump of the major networks – called the state for Biden with fewer precincts reporting than other states and over a million votes left to be counted.

South Korea culls 19,000 ducks after highly pathogenic H5N8 bird flu outbreak strikes farm

Some 19,000 ducks have been culled in South Korea after a farm was hit by an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N8 bird flu - the same strain which has afflicted Europe in recent weeks and led to the culling of millions of birds.

The outbreak first took hold on Thursday in the southwestern town of Girin-ri, near the city of Jeongeup-si, the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) said in an alert on Monday.

Tracing, disinfection and a clampdown on movement are among the actions that health authorities have taken to stem the spread of disease, the OEI said.

In separate measures, the South Korean Ministry of Agriculture said it had also culled 292,000 chickens on five other farms and 100,000 ducks at another site.

News of the outbreak in South Korea comes after another bout of the highly contagious H5N8 strain was reported at a turkey farm in Yorkshire, northern England at the weekend, resulting in the culling of all of its 10,500 birds.

Mainstream media outlets are falling over themselves to pay tribute to Joe Biden for appointing an all-female communications team. The coverage conveniently forgets that Donald Trump already has a female-led team in place.

Many of the big beasts on the US media landscape gushed about Biden’s “history-making” appointments after the Democrat’s transition team announced the selections on Sunday night.

“It is the first time all of the top aides tasked with speaking on behalf of an administration and shaping its message will be female,” the Washington Post reported. NPR said it was “the first time in history” such roles had been filled by women, while a raft of high-profile reporters and commentators from other outlets, including CNN and PBS, eagerly parroted the same claim.

However, the excessive backslapping quickly drew the ire of the current administration, and several figures from the White House sought to correct the record by noting that the Trump administration’s communications team is entirely female-led now.

Trump’s press secretary, Kayleigh McEnany, noted that Trump has an all-female senior press team, as do Vice President Mike Pence and First Lady Melania Trump. McEnany is the third successive woman to hold that role for the sitting president.

The bizarre MSM framing of the matter prompted another Trump adviser, Ben Williamson, to quip: “If anyone wants to know what it’s like having women in leadership roles across the communications board, feel free to reach out to the Trump White House for comment – given that’s been our setup for several months now.”

Unsurprisingly, the rebuttals did little to change the mainstream narrative, and journalists began pointing to lower-level employees who are men as proof that their reporting was accurate. Maggie Haberman of the New York Times cited Judd Deere as an example in responding to McEnany’s tweet.

Haberman was seemingly unaware that Deere had already addressed the issue, pointing out that his bosses had always been women during his time in the White House.

Amidst the squabbling, national security commentator Rebeccah Heinrichs noted that the entire discussion was misguided. “I don’t think the male/female ratio thing is a measure of competency. Dr. Birx says Americans who gathered at Thanksgiving need to assume they're infected with COVID-19, get tested this week

Dr. Deborah Birx said Americans "may have made mistakes over the Thanksgiving time period" and urged everyone who attended holiday gatherings last week to assume they are infected with COVID-19 and to get tested this week. Birx, the coordinator of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, made the statements during an appearance on "Face the Nation."

"We know people may have made mistakes over the Thanksgiving time period," Birx said on Sunday. "If you're young and you gathered, you need to be tested about five to 10 days later. But you need to assume that you're infected and not go near your grandparents and aunts and others without a mask."

Birx noted, "We're really asking families to even mask indoors if they chose to gather during Thanksgiving and others went across the country or even into the next state."

Birx warned that she believes there will be massive spikes of coronavirus following Thanksgiving.

"Going into the Memorial Day weekend we had less than 25,000 a day, we had only 30,000 inpatients in the hospital and we had way less mortality, way under a thousand," Birx said. "We're entering this post-Thanksgiving surge with three, four and 10 times as much disease across the country," Birx said during the interview. "And so that's what worries us the most."

"We are deeply worried about what could happen post-Thanksgiving because the number of cases, 25,000 versus 180,000 a day, that's where- that's why we are deeply concerned," she said.

Birx said despite coronavirus cases and hospitalizations falling in the northern plains states, "we're worried that all of that will be reversed" because of Thanksgiving gatherings.

While some governors implement more stringent restrictions as the COVID-19 cases rise, Birx took aim at the freedom-embracing governors and mayors who have allowed their constituents to decide which activities they are comfortable in doing and not doing during the pandemic.

"To every American, this is the moment to protect yourself and your family," Birx stated. "So if your governor or your mayor isn't doing the policies that we know are critical — masking, physical distancing, avoiding bars, avoiding crowded indoor areas — if those restrictions don't exist in your state, you need to take it upon yourself to be restricted. You need to not go to these places. You need to protect your family now."

Birx revealed that she expects to provide a coronavirus briefing to the incoming Biden administration on Monday.

"The one thing that we will bring to the Biden administration in that discussion is to understand how they want to see the data because data isn't helpful if it's not actionable," she said. "And each group needs to see it the way it moves them to action."

Birx will continue to brief Vice President Mike Pence every day.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said that if United States experiences the current rate of infection, then Americans should not hold Christmas celebrations this year.

"What we expect, unfortunately, as we go for the next couple of weeks into December, is that we might see a surge superimposed on the surge we are already in," Fauci said during a "Meet the Press" interview on Sunday. "I don't want to frighten people, except to say it is not too late to do something about this."

Dr. Fauci cautioned that the upcoming holiday season is "a precarious situation."

Policy Of Terror: Assassinations Of Nuclear Scientists In Iran

The assassination of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh is not a one-time event, but it is a part of a string of such attacks on Iran’s nuclear scientific program.

This is a result of frequent accusations by Israel, and more recently, by the Trump Administration in the US that Tehran plans to develop a nuclear weapon, rather than what it claims is simply a civilian endeavor to provide cheaper, cleaner energy.

On November 27th, Iran’s chief nuclear scientist – Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was shot, and killed east of Tehran.

Iranian officials blame Israel, and it is little doubt who’s responsible for the killing.

Iranian Supreme Leader Khameini said the following:

“Mr Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was killed by the oppressive enemies. This rare scientific mind lost his life for his everlasting great scientific work. He lost his life for God and the supreme leader.”

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called on the international community “to end their shameful double standards” and “condemn this act of state terror.” He added that the attack showed “serious indications of Israeli role.”

Maj. Gen. Hossein Dehghan, Khamenei’s military adviser, tweeted Saturday that “Zionists” are seeking to create “all-out war” and vowed to “descend like lightning” on Fakhrizadeh’s killers.

President Hassan Rouhani, also among the many Iranian leaders blaming Israel, promised retaliation as well, saying during a cabinet meeting on November 28th:

“The think tanks and the enemies of Iran must know that the Iranian nation and the officials in charge in the country are brave and determined to respond to the murder in time.”

The official version is that Fakhrizadeh was traveling with his wife on November 27th in a bulletproof car, alongside three security personnel vehicles, when he heard what sounded like bullets hitting a vehicle, and he exited the car to determine what had happened.

When he exited the vehicle, a remote-controlled machine gun opened fire from a Nissan stopped about 150 meters from Fakhrizadeh’s car, Fars News said.

Fakhrizadeh was hit at least three times, according to Fars News. His bodyguard was also shot. Following the gunfire, the Nissan exploded, Fars News reported, adding the attack lasted three minutes.

Iranian Defense Minister Brig. Gen. Amir Hatami also said that Fakhrizadeh’s car was hit by gunfire, followed by an explosion and more gunfire.

“Based on reports received from members of his security detail, Mr. Fakhrizadeh’s vehicle was initially targeted by gunfire, after which a Nissan vehicle laden with explosives was set off in close proximity to them as gunfire, targeting their vehicle, was continuing,” Hatami said, according to ISNA.

Seyed Kamal Kharrazi, the head of Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, compared the assassination to the killing of Qasem Soleimani, the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency reported.

“Undoubtedly, the Islamic Republic of Iran will give a calculated and decisive answer to the criminals who took Martyr Fakhrizadeh,” Kharrazi was quoted as saying.

The wider international community and Western media is largely keeping silent and not condemning the killing at all, despite Israel having a lengthy list of assassinating Iranian officials, experts and scientists inside Iran itself.
