Articles of Impeachment Filed Against Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine Over Abuse of Power During Coronavirus Pandemic

A total of 12 articles of impeachment have officially been filed against Ohio Governor Mike DeWine over abuse of power during the Chinese coronavirus pandemic.

Ohio State Rep. John Becker (R) was joined by Representatives Candice Keller (R), Nino Vitale (R), and Paul Zeltwanger (R) in filing articles of impeachment against Governor DeWine, according to a report by Cleveland 19 News.

The representatives argue that DeWine has abused his power during the pandemic, noting that the governor vetoed Senate Bill 55 — and threatened to veto other General Assembly legislation, including Senate Bill 311 — which seeks to severely limit the governor’s power during a pandemic.

“Governor DeWine’s mismanagement, malfeasance, misfeasance, abuse of power, and other crimes include, but are not limited to, meddling in the conduct of a presidential primary election, arbitrarily closing and placing curfews on certain businesses, while allowing other businesses to remain open,” said Rep. Becker’s office in a statement.

“He weaponized the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation to bully and harass businesses and the people; to enforce a statewide mask mandate and other controversial measures of dubious ‘value,’ making Ohio a hostile work environment,” the statement added.

The statement goes on to cite the governor’s inclusion of places of worship during shutdown orders, as well as the implementation a statewide mask mandate, which has been in effect in one way or another since the summer.

“Rather than hearing the cries of Ohioans, Governor DeWine continues to stifle those cries by finding more inventive ways to use masks to muffle the voices of the people,” said Rep. Becker in his statement.

“He continues to have callous disregard for the fact that his isolation policies have led to a shockingly high number of suicides, alarming rates of drug abuse, persistently high unemployment, and the forced abandonment of the elderly by their loved ones,” the representative added.

Becker first announced his decision to file articles of impeachment against DeWine in August, citing the same issues.

According to Ohio’s Constitution, the State House of Representatives has the sole power of impeachment, but a majority of members are needed in order for impeachment to concur. It would then go to the State Senate, with a two-thirds vote needed to convict a governor of impeachment.

UAE Condemns "Heinous" Killing Of Iran Scientist In Rare Break From Israel-Gulf Axis

Last Friday's assassination of top Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh is putting immense strain on the newly 'normalized' ties between the United Arab Emirates and Israel.

The UAE late on Sunday issued a statement strongly denouncing the attack that it called a "crime" that could destabilize the region. This after Tehran has vowed to retaliate, yet without giving details of what form this might take.

The UAE "condemns the heinous assassination of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, which could further fuel conflict in the region," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said, as cited in Bloomberg.

"The state of instability our region is currently going through, and the security challenges it faces, drive us all to work towards averting acts that could lead to escalation and eventually threaten the stability of the entire region," it added.

Signed on September 15, the 'Abraham Accords' opened up formal diplomatic relations and economic dealings between Israel and the tiny oil-rich Gulf country for the first time in history.

Bahrain was also involved, and Sudan is said to be the next Arab League member to normalize ties, with the State Department now urging Saudi Arabia to follow.

As Bloomberg notes of the significance of the UAE condemning this latest attack:

"The denunciation late Sunday was significant both because of the historically strained relations between Sunni Gulf Arab states and Shiite Iran, and the fact that Tehran has blamed the attack on Israel, which recently signed a normalization deal with the UAE."

Jordan is also the latest regional voice to condemn the brazen assassination which occurred east of Tehran last week.

Some current and former diplomats in the West have also condemned the killing, widely suspected to have Israeli or even US intelligence involvement, as it sets a precedented that could open tit-for-tat illegal assassinations as a modus operandi for score settling among rival powers in the region.

New York Times Op-ed: Challenging Election Results Makes Trump Hitler

The New York Times published an op-ed Monday that suggested President Donald Trump is like Nazi dictator and mass murderer Adolf Hitler because he is challenging election results in court.

The Times won the Pulitzer Prize in 2018 for its reporting on “Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and its connections to the Trump campaign, the President-elect’s transition team and his eventual administration.” There was no evidence of collusion, though the Times‘ reporting, which was never tested in a court of law, was used to cast doubt on the legitimacy of the 2016 election.

Nevertheless, the Times has decided that Trump’s legal challenges warrant comparison to Nazi Germany. Contributing writer Jochen Bittner, who is also affiliated with Germany’s Die Zeit, argued that Trump’s claims of voter fraud are like Germany’s belief that sabotage led to defeat in World War I:

He concludes that what happened in Germany in the 1920s and 1930s is “exactly what is happening in the United States today.”

Addressing her guest former Republican Party Chairman Michael Steele, Wallace said, “It is always dangerous when he lies to his voters, but it is creating an unprecedented and perhaps unsustainable instability to make his supporters, to make half of this country doubt the validity of Joe Biden’s victory.”

Steele said, “I think we have to step back a moment and say that Donald Trump didn’t have to do a lot of convincing here. Donald Trump didn’t have to do a lot of lying to his supporters. He picked a scab in which they already believed a lot of this.”

Wallace said, “I understand the how. What I don’t understand is the why. Because this isn’t just, you know, an anti-elite world view, stick it to the mainstream media, they’re out to get us. This is a lie. It is a lie. I don’t understand why Roy Blunt goes along with the lie. I don’t understand why Asa Hutchinson says, ‘Oh, we got to let this play out.’ There’s nothing to play out. Judges appointed by Democratic and Republican presidents have thrown every lawsuit out. Kelly Loeffler said that we have to let the investigation finish. There is no investigation. Biden Owes Big Tech and They're Gonna Want Payback

Big Tech Has Some Invoices for Joe Biden

The presidential election of 2020 may have had more moving parts than any other in the history of the United States. There was the baggage from 2016. There was the ever-present potential for fraud with mail-in ballots. There was the Chinese Bat Flu. There was the complete abdication of journalistic responsibility by the mainstream media. One factor that is becoming more and more apparent is the role Big Tech played in placing a heavy thumb on the scale to help Joe Biden.

My colleague Victoria Taft wrote last week that Google’s machinations alone may have been worth 6 million votes for The Masked Groper. Add to that the full-scale suppression by social media giants Twitter and Facebook of the damaging news about Hunter Biden in October and Big Tech may have influenced this election as much, if not more, than the stupid pandemic.

That kind of help isn’t given to politicians by corporations and industries with out asking for something in return. Usually a lot of something. Get ready for the multi-headed Big Tech monster to show up in Washington with a heavy list of demands for Biden’s puppeteers if he makes it to Inauguration Day.

Google is crafting plans to convince the incoming Biden administration to allow it to continue its growing monopoly over the internet.

The company, facing an antitrust suit from the Department of Justice and heightened public opposition to its power, will conduct an aggressive campaign on the Biden administration, including deploying an army of lobbyists paid millions of dollars and mobilizing tech insiders within the administration.

Google will find it far easier to influence the Biden administration than the Trump administration. While the Trump administration pursued a policy of toughness against Google, including filing the antitrust suit accusing the company of unlawfully maintaining monopolies in search and search advertising, Biden will surely be friendlier to the company’s monolithic power, as he spent his eight years in an administration entirely deferential to Big Tech.

Leaving Twitter and Facebook out of the conversation for the moment, just ponder the idea of Google becoming even more powerful. The Democrats spent the last four years caterwauling about Russian influence on our elections. It never happened, but we were all supposed to be oh-so-concerned.

The Google influence most definitely did happen. While Google may not be a foreign agent, undue influence on American elections from any source is something to be feared. The American electorate is only truly empowered when it is adequately informed of the stakes. Big Tech has enormous control over what the public does and does not see when it comes to information. Google is far and away the most powerful company in the mix.

Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas took on liberal actress Alyssa Milano after she tried to blame him and his fellow Republicans for the lack of a deal on a new coronavirus aid package.

The Twitter feud began after Cruz posted a comment about the changing demographics of the Democratic Party based on statistics about the changing voting habits of the highest earning counties in the U.S.

"This is hilarious. Why is the GOP blocking covid relief from working class families if it's the party of working class? Or blocking the bill to raise minimum wage to 15 dollars an hour. Sit down," Milano tweeted, garnering almost 800 retweets for the retort.

Milano responded but ignored the specific points that Cruz raised in order to continue to blame Republicans.

"The American people aren't dumb, Ted. 14 million children and 5.5 million seniors don't have enough food to eat in this country and your party wants to bail out corporations and wealthy sycophants. Your president would rather claim unsubstantiated election fraud than govern," she tweeted.

Cruz made similar arguments when socialist Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York attempted to make the same accusations against Republicans.

While experts are cautioning against opening up the economy in light of what appears to be a second spike in coronavirus cases, many workers and business owners are speaking out against lockdown measures and arguing that they are far too draconian.

ICE pivots to combat COVID-19 vaccine fraud with launch of Operation Stolen Promise 2.0

WASHINGTON – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is preparing for a surge in anticipated fraud by criminal networks related to COVID-19 vaccines and treatments. In response, ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) has launched Operation Stolen Promise 2.0, the next phase of strategic efforts to identify and prevent the production, sale and distribution of unapproved or unauthorized COVID-19 products and drugs.

ICE HSI has been actively working with many of the leading pharmaceutical companies that are currently developing vaccines and treatments.

“We are committed to protecting the American public and global supply chain from fraud related to COVID vaccines and treatments. We will continue to use our broad legal authorities and longstanding relationships with domestic and international law enforcement agencies and private sector partners to address this emerging public health threat, and will sustain our efforts to disrupt and dismantle criminal networks seeking to profit from the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Derek Benner, Executive Associate Director for HSI. “ICE HSI has been at the forefront of the government’s investigative response to COVID-19-related crime since the onset of the pandemic and will remain a leader in the fight to prevent vaccine fraud and to protect the health and safety of Americans.”

Based on current trends and through actionable intelligence, special agents anticipate that criminal organizations will continue to adapt and capitalize on public demand for access to vaccines and treatments as they are developed and approved. With that, the agency expects a surge in illicit attempts to introduce counterfeit versions of approved vaccines into U.S. and global marketplaces.

Despite widespread illness and death caused by COVID-19, many individuals and criminal networks are continuing to exploit the pandemic for illegal financial gains, using fraudulent schemes to source, produce, export or sell fake vaccines and related products, according to investigators.

To counter this emerging public safety threat, Operation Stolen Promise 2.0 will build upon Operation Stolen Promise, with the specific goal of countering the threat of counterfeit vaccines, treatments and supplies. ICE HSI will do this by disrupting and dismantling fraud schemes, removing illicit websites and other online marketplaces and seizing counterfeit or illicit vaccines and treatments. As part of this effort, the agency is also highlighting ways that the public can protect itself against fraud involving counterfeit vaccines and treatments. ICE encourages the public to visit ice.gov for additional information.

“Many people, both in government and in industry, are working hard to ensure that the vaccines are properly developed, and once approved, properly and efficiently distributed through a secure supply chain,” said Steve Francis, director of ICE HSI’s Intellectual Property Rights Center. “From production to distribution, these vaccines will require a great level of care and technology along the way in order to ensure they will be effective when they reach the patient. The public should not accept anything from an unapproved source, as an unapproved source can never guarantee that the vaccine is legitimate or that it has been properly stored and transported,” he said.

ICE launched Operation Stolen Promise in April 2020 to protect the Homeland from the increasing and evolving threat posed by COVID-19-related fraud and criminal activity.

As of November 25, 2020, the agency has seized more than $26 million in illicit proceeds; made 170 arrests; executed 148 search warrants and analysed more than 69,000 COVID-19 domain names. Working with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, more than 1,600 shipments of mislabelled, fraudulent, unauthorized or prohibited COVID-19 test kits and other related items have been seized.

In an editorial published overnight inThe Global Times, Australia is described as “the war hound” of the United States.

“As a warhound of the US, Australia should restrain its arrogance. Particularly, its warships must not come to China’s coastal areas to flex muscles, or else it will swallow the bitter pills,’’ the editorial states.

“Australian special forces murdered 39 Afghan civilians and prisoners. Killing innocent people is trampling on human rights no matter what. But Canberra has the nerve to put itself on the moral high ground of human rights. How arrogant and shameless the Morrison government is!”

China maintains a maritime militia in the South China Sea - officially called the People’s Armed Forces Maritime Militia (PAFMM) that plays a key role in Beijing’s strategy to enforce its disputed sovereignty claims.

Asia Institute fellow Rowan Callick told news.com.au that the Global Times editorial was a clear reference to the South China Sea.

“Australia has refused to do these freedom of navigation protocols. It’s a warning that if we change our strategy and participate in these freedom of navigation cruises something may or may not happen,’’ he said.

“I don’t think the Global Times is the vehicle to place highly strategic messages. It’s one to place general sentiment. If People’s Daily was to editorialise on this, that Australia’s ships should watch out, that would be more disturbing. This is disturbing enough.”

Former Labor MP Michael Danby said the editorial represented a clear warning and follows recent activity involving HMAS Ballarat.

“That’s a threat. HMAS Ballarat was in the South China Sea recently with the US taskforce,’’ Mr Danby said.

“That’s very ominous. It’s suggesting there might be an incident.”

According to the US Navy, the HMAS Ballarat conducted drills, integrated tactical training, and warfighting scenarios and a combined transit to the Andaman Sea through the Strait of Malacca in late October.

“We find tremendous value in sailing alongside our close allies of Australia, as well as our other allies and partners, in support of a free, open, secure, and prosperous Indo-Pacific Region,” Commander Ryan T. Easterday said.

Islamists Massacre Scores of Rice Farmers in Cold Blood in Northeast Nigeria

Militants from the Boko Haram Islamic terror group slit the throats of at least 70 farmers Saturday in Borno State, northeast Nigeria, according to local reports.

Eyewitnesses to the attack said the farmers “were rounded up and summarily slaughtered by the armed insurgents” just as residents of the state were voting to elect local government council officials for the first time in 13 years.

The former leader of the Borno Farmers Union, Hassan Zabarmari, said the farmers were working in rice fields in the Garin Kwashebe village of Borno State when members of the terror group attacked them.

“It was a sad incident that took place at about 11 a.m today,” Mr. Zabarmari said Saturday. “The farmers were attacked at the Garin-Kwashebe rice field, and according to reports reaching us since afternoon, about 40 of them were killed.”

The death toll of the massacre was initially reported as 43 victims but on Sunday, Borno State Gov. Babagana Umara Zulum adjusted the figure, noting that the number of confirmed dead had risen to 70.

According to Ahmed Satomi, a member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, the militants likely attacked the farmers in retaliation, because on Friday they had disarmed and arrested a Boko Haram gunman who had been tormenting them.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari extended his condolences to the victims of the attack and their families, describing the jihadist killings as “senseless.”

“I condemn the killing of our hardworking farmers by terrorists in Borno State. The entire country is hurt by these senseless killings,” Mr. Buhari said. “My thoughts are with their families in this time of grief. May their souls rest in peace.”

Buhari, who has faced criticism for failing to stop the ongoing Islamist terror attacks, said his government is providing the armed forces with all the support needed “to protect the country’s population and its territory.”

Boko Haram launched a bloody insurgency in 2009 in northeastern Nigeria, killing more than 30,000 people and displacing another 3 million in just over a decade, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
