I worked for the railroad (Conrail) as a road freight conductor. This is not the sort of thing you mess with and I hope that the FEDERAL judge hearing this case takes that 20 year maximum as if it were the minimum. Large quantities of hazardous chemicals cannot be safely transported on the highways … so they move by rail. Rail has a very good safety record - - totally contingent on all the equipment working correctly and all the employees being alert to their duties. There are other vulnerabilities and a shunt is one of the LEAST dangerous possibilities … but landing tank cars of industrial-strength ammonia on top of burning propane tanks should send shivers running up any living spine. The resultant gasses scar the lungs IMMEDIATELY. Death is by suffocation while the skin blisters … an altogether unpleasant way to kill all the people in the downwind plume.

Reiche is not a bad looking woman … and she's already got a prison haircut, so she'll transition to prison life just fine. They should be able to provide her with the stability her resume shows her to be lacking.

He broke into the Nintendo servers multiple times, hosted a chat forum and built and used "circumvention devices" and he's "cognitively impaired"?

WTF? At the very least he's gifted, possibly one of us. His cognition is just fine, his morals and ability to control his impulses are crappy, though. And he's a piss-poor criminal who leaves too many traces.

No, actually they aren't. Or at least they weren't at the time of capture. This was commercial, unclassified, traffic over public rights of way. IF they were encrypted there could be legal objections raised for breaking the encryption, but that still wouldn't involve the military.
