I think it's all about intent.

If we're on the same team and you lie to me to protect me or to throw off my enemies, that's disinformation

>"The Tooth Fairy left that money under your pillow, Billy"

>"The company is doing fine" even though stocks dropped 50% after the CEO resigned

>"Oh your hair looks so good today"

 

Misinformation comes from malicious intent.

Whether it be to harm a person or populace, or if it's to cover up wrongdoing.

>"Covid will kill everyone if you don't wear the mask"

>"No pressure to sign up, just come down and talk to our sales reps" who work on commission

>"Russia Russia Russia"

 

There are caveats for both but that's how I understand it.
