Georgia Senate Committees to Hold Election Hearings

Two committees in the Georgia State Senate, the Senate Government Oversight Committee and the Georgia Senate Committee on Judiciary, announced they will hold back-to-back hearings on elections processes on Thursday. This is the fourth state to hold livestreaming election-related hearings. The Senate says the purpose is “to evaluate the election process to ensure the integrity of Georgia’s voting process.” Georgia is in the midst of conducting a machine recount of votes for the 2020 presidential election. The deadline is midnight Wednesday. One Peach State county in particular was running behind.

Brad Raffensperger, the Republican secretary of state in Georgia, mentioned staffing shortages on the county’s recount on Tuesday. He said Fulton County had “cut corners” during the state’s second recount. Previously, the state completed a hand audit of results, ordered by Raffensperger. Raffensperger said a Fulton County employee “made several compounding errors.” He said “the biggest one” was backing up the election project “on the server itself instead of on an external backup.” He appeared to be referring to the Dominion Voting Systems server that crashed over the weekend, leading to a new Dominion server being flown in.

Georgia Secretary Of State Investigating Voter Registration Group Run By Democrat Raphael Warnock

The New Georgia Project, an organization founded by failed 2018 gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams and formerly led by Georgia Democratic Senate candidate Rev. Raphael Warnock, is under investigation for allegedly sending ballot applications to non-residents. During his time as CEO of the organization from 2017 until February this year, Warnock assisted in the group’s efforts to register “nearly 400,000 people from underrepresented communities to vote in Georgia.” Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is currently examining a potential violation of state law that may have occurred when the organization sent voter registration applications to New York City. “Voting in Georgia when you are not a resident of Georgia is a felony,” Raffensperger said at a press conference. “These third-party groups have a responsibility to not encourage illegal voting. If they do so, they will be held responsible.”

In addition to the self-described “nonpartisan” group, Raffensperger will also be investigating three other organizations accused of “improper registration activities.” These include America Votes, which reportedly mailed “absentee ballot applications to people at addresses where they have not lived since 1994,” Vote Forward which allegedly registered a dead voter from another state for Georgia elections, and Operation New Voter Registration Georgia which “is accused of recommending college students temporarily change their residency for the purpose of voting in the state.” While Warnock claimed in 2017 that “using the word voter fraud is alarmist, and it was totally unnecessary,” the secretary of state’s office previously investigated the organization after reports of forged voter registration applications in 2014. After a referral to law enforcement in 2017, the case never resulted in any charges. This lack of charges, Warnock said, was because the group has “excellent internal controls and that we have followed the law.”

In addition to this most recent investigation, the reverend recently came under fire after reports resurfaced of his involvement in a 2002 police investigation when he, along with another minister, allegedly prevented law enforcement officers from interviewing counselors from the church’s camp following reports of suspected child abuse. Warnock will face off with Republican incumbent Kelly Loeffler in the Georgia Senate runoff race in January, one of the two races that could decide the fate of the GOP’s current majority in the Senate.

Georgia GOP to Present Case for Fraud

In Georgia, U.S. District Judge Timothy Batten Sr. issued three emergency orders on the same case. Plaintiffs, represented by attorney Sidney Powell, eventually convinced the judge—who reversed his decision twice along the way—to stop officials in three counties from wiping or resetting the Dominion Voting Systems machines used in the election. In addition, there are two more significant lawsuits by Lin Wood against Georgia’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. That case alleges that the election rules were changed unconstitutionally, so the state should not certify the results until that’s resolved.

A third, also against Raffensburger, says there’s enough allegations of voting irregularity that the court should nullify the state’s election results. There will also be a Senate hearing this week, and there’s a call for a Special Session of the legislature to deal with these pressing issues. To make sense of it all, we’re joined by Brad Carver, GOP chairman of Georgia’s 11th Congressional District; and Garland Favorito, co-founder of Voters Organized for Trusted Election Results in Georgia.

Gov. Kristi Noem Shuts Down CBS News Over 'Misleading' Report on South Dakota COVID Cases

Gov. Kristi Noem (R) has carefully balanced Constitutional liberty with public health concerns in her approach to managing the Wuhan virus pandemic in South Dakota, which is very much at odds with how “lock it all down” types on the left and in the media prefer that governors manage their states. She has also been her state’s fiercest defender when it comes to attacks on it — and her — from the mainstream media and liberal commentators. “Journalists” have routinely ridiculed Noem’s handling of the Wuhan virus pandemic while at the same time showering NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) with praise and treating him like a magnificent hero even though his disastrous pandemic crisis management has been well-documented even by the Democrat-friendly New York Times and the liberal-leaning ProPublica group. The latest instance of a media outlet trying to dunk on Gov. Noem was Tuesday when CBS News filed the below report on coronavirus outbreaks in South Dakota and Indiana. Reporter David Begnaud stated in the news report that South Dakota “leads the nation in per capita hospitalizations.”

It’s misleading stories from reporters like Begnaud that have caused many to simply tune out the media when it comes to news on the coronavirus outbreak. There have been too many instances to count over the course of the last several months where journalists have generated panics in their respective communities with reports like these that leave out vital context. For example, I can think of several instances from the spring and summer where reporters here in North Carolina would report a “doubling” of case numbers in a particular county from one day to the next. Hearing it framed that way one would think that the virus had been spreading like wildfire. Except oftentimes the “doubling” in cases would be from 10 one day to 20 the next. While that is technically “doubling”, putting it that way instead of reporting that “case numbers went from 10 to 20 in one day” makes the numbers sound much more concerning. Even one case of the virus is bad news, let alone 10, 20, 200, or however many there are reported on a given day in any part of the country. But at a time when virus case numbers are indeed going up in certain areas (which was expected considering we’re going into the fall and winter months as well as the holiday season), it’s critical that the mainstream media not sensationalize their stories and give viewers and readers incomplete pictures of what’s happening in their communities.

They don’t need to sugarcoat what’s happening, but they need to avoid causing undue panic, too. Neither approach to reporting on a public health crisis does the public any good at all. Back in September, Noem also ripped the media a new one after they ran with a deeply flawed “study” suggesting the Sturgis rally in August might have been a “superspreader event.” Reason.com thoroughly debunked the study’s most sensational claims here.
