NYC church security guard accuses priest of sexual assault

A security guard at a Manhattan church has accused a priest of sexually assaulting her after she says she caught him watching gay pornography in his office on Nov. 4, according to reports.

Ashley Gonzalez, 22, was working her second day on the job at the Church of St. Michael in Midtown when Fr. George Rutler allegedly attacked her, News 12 reported.

Gonzalez said the alleged assault came after she filmed a man — who she says is Rutler — watching porn on a church computer.

“He looked at me with a smile, looked away, and he put his hand inside his pants, and he was playing with himself,” Gonzalez told News 12.

“He aggressively threw himself on me and grabbed me sexually, aggressively, and I was fighting him off of me,” she said.

Rutler denied the accusations in a Nov. 20 letter to parishioners, which was obtained by the National Catholic Reporter.

“I strongly deny this allegation, which I maintain is incoherent and painful to my reputation and inconsistent with how I have conducted myself in fifty years of ministerial service without any accusation of misbehavior,” he wrote.

The priest also told NCR in a statement that he is “totally innocent.”

Rutler, who routinely appears on Eternal Word Television Network, has “stepped aside from the parish” as authorities investigate Gonzalez’s claims, the Archdiocese of New York told News 12 in a statement.

After the alleged assault, Gonzalez, with the help of a private investigative firm, reportedly filed a police report.

The District Attorney’s office is handling the case, according to the National Catholic Reporter.

Australia To Sign Military Pact With US Ally Japan Amid Spiraling China Tensions

Australia is using its formative military alliances as the only leverage it has in the worsening trade spat with China which has grown into a full-blown crisis for Aussie commodities exports.

It also comes after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo traveled to India and southeast Asian countries last month seeking to shore up coordinated regional resistance against Chinese economic and military influence and hegemony.

"Australia plans to sign a military exchange deal with U.S. ally Japan so troops from both sides could pool their firepower if needed to counter China, which has become enmeshed in disputes with Australia over the past two weeks," reports state-funded Voice of America.

"Both sides said after a senior-level meeting November 17 they would sign a reciprocal access agreement next year," VOA continues. It would allow for each to train and operate from the other's sovereign territory.

The agreement is seen as greatly bolstering the common readiness of a loosened defense pact known as the Quad which has as its purpose information and intelligence coordination and cooperating on military exercises. India, Japan, Australia and the US formed the group in 2007.

Assuming the deal when signed gets successfully approved by Japan's parliament it would mark the first time since WWII that Tokyo formally and willingly approved of inviting foreign troops to operate on its soil. Previously Japan’s prime minister, Yoshihide Suga, said it would be toward the two regional militaries cooperation for "a free and open Indo-Pacific," according to Kyodo news.

Meanwhile a bizarre tweet from the US National Security Council after China slapped import taxes of up to 212.1% on Australian wines, which took effect last Saturday and has made Aussie wines basically unsellable in China:

Australian wine will be featured at a White House holiday reception this week. Pity vino lovers in China who, due to Beijing’s coercive tariffs on Aussie vintners, will miss out. #AussieAussieAussieOiOiOi!

Weeks ago Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison flew to Tokyo to firm up details. He stated at the time that "Japan has a very special relationship with Australia. It is not just an economic one, it is not just a trade one, it is not just a cultural and social one. Importantly, it is a strategic one. We play a very important role together in working in the Southwest Pacific together."

China's state media, which often reflects the internal government official statements of high Communist Party officials, condemned the deal, saying it "clearly targets China" and "further accelerates the confrontational atmosphere in the Asia-Pacific region."

Prince Harry suggests COVID-19 is payback from 'Mother Nature'

The jet-setting climate change activist says humans need 'to really take a moment and think about what we've done'

U.S.-based British royal Prince Harry suggested in a recent interview that the coronavirus could be retribution from "Mother Nature," as he urged his fellow man "to really take a moment and think about what we've done" to the earth.

During a virtual sit-down with environmentally focused streaming platform WaterBear, the Duke of Sussex explained, "Somebody said to me at the beginning of the pandemic, it's almost as though Mother Nature has sent us to our rooms for bad behavior, to really take a moment and think about what we've done."

"It's certainly reminded me about how interconnected we all are, not just as people but through nature," he continued. "We take so much from her and we rarely give a lot back."

Reuters noted that "the prince, who has been criticized in the past for his use of private jets, urged people to imagine being a raindrop in order to help repair the Earth."

The 36-year-old put it this way: "Every single raindrop that falls from the sky relieves the parched ground. What if every one of us was a raindrop? If every single one of us cared? We do, because we have to, because at the end of the day nature is our life source."

The New York Post reported that the duke recently bought a $14 million Los Angeles mansion where he lives with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their toddler son, Archie.

Harry also spoke to WaterBear about his initial concerns about having children due to the threat of climate change, saying, "The moment you become a father, everything really does change because then you start to realize, well, what is the point in bringing a person into this world when they get to your age and it's on fire?" He added, "We can't steal their future, that's not the job we're here for."

Earlier this year, Harry and Meghan stepped away from their royal duties to Harry's family after making the move to North America.

The two took heat from Trump supporters in September after they weighed in on the U.S. election during an interview with TIME in what many observers interpreted as an endorsement of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.

When asked about their comments, President Donald Trump replied, "I'm not a fan of hers, and I would say this — and she probably has heard that — but I wish a lot of luck to Harry, 'cause he's gonna need it."
