Requestion anons take on personal matter. Very close friend I've known since childhood was a 3 Star General, and suddenly retired a few months ago. Won't go into any detail or even identify which branch of service he was in so as to respect his privacy. He is not a household name, keeps a fairly low profile and just gets his job done. We talk frequently, although I have never asked him anything political given his rank and profile…figured it would would make him uncomfortable. I retired earlier this year, and had been talking to him about it off and on…seems like in one of those conversations he would have mentioned that he was planning to retire soon as well, but he never said anything. Then, suddenly he was retired out of the blue.

I know this doesn't provide anons with much to go on, and it's just speculation, but this seems odd and out of character for him. I'm left wondering if this was simply a case of him being tired, not liking his new post much and deciding the time was right….or something to do with departing in advance of something he wasn't aligned with. Or possibly being pushed out because he wasn't "on the team". Anyway, just thought I would ask some smart autists for their take on a sudden and unexpected 3 Star departure.
