the 13 colonies asked Britain nicely for 20 years , representation in the house of commons or parliament for taxation. THey didn't think it was fair that they were taxed without representation in the house of parliament.

 

Britain said no, started using violence to enfore the taxes, the shot heard round the world.

was trying to dispell the notion that the war of Independence was some unethical violent rebellion, or it was about rich slave owners

 

the war was brought on by the arrogance of the British to the colonists. they fucked up big time.
