It is in your culture - in your behavioral lexicon to destroy those who do not follow the herd. As such, it is always necessary to virtue signal. Nothing can ever be a joke. Nothing can ever be fun, for any deviation from the herd results in destruction by the herd.
It's how we knew who was operating 'the kitchen' and why you could not understand that we knew this was the case and did nothing. It is, also, a requirement of your culture to presume that others are stupid and unaware. You do not comprehend that others can know exactly what you are doing and bide their time.
It is the difference between nepotism empowering virtue signals and people with grounded experience and appreciation for ability.
