I am quite conversant with the history of the US military, and the vast propaganda machine behind it.
But you still should have known better.
Everyone understands that the government is run by criminals. By putting on a uniform and killing people for those criminals, you have become an accessory to their crimes. But, owing to your ignorance, you get a commuted sentence. You're still guilty. You still committed crimes. But your status as Non compos mentis grants you a reprieve.
Yes, you were deceived. But you are still responsible for your actions.
That's the breaks.

As spiteful and vindictive as I know myself to be, I am willing to concede that most traitors are be truly regretful of their actions. There is a reason why veterans and cops have such high rates of suicide and substance abuse.
Those who have genuinely repented their sins need to be spared death. But you are all still felons in the eyes of the law, and none of you can ever again be trusted.
