>United States citizens don't own their homes now
Correct. You own an open-ended lease document. It has requirements and restrictions, such that you must pay local town property taxes. You own the document. The document permits you to live in the house as long as you comply with the requirement of the document. Town tax is approx. 1/4 to 1/3 of the rent for the property, so you own a document which permits you to pay 1/4 to 1/3 of the rent, as long as you obey all other town ordinances and rules which they may change from time to time.
The house is not your property. This is 100% accurate. But, the open-ended lease which you do own, does have a value.
