You are right. It was 6am every morning and 4 times on Sunday, weddings and funerals. Also religious holidays, which there were many and even co-opted the summer federal holidays. The very large bell could be heard a long distance. The sound was ear-splitting if you were with in a few blocks from the church. Now they use recorded bell sounds, which isn't as loud.

We've been indoctrinated into Christianity for hundreds of years. The historical and modern abuses are well documented, although certainly not complete. I am against all organized religion because it is a form of control that has insinuated itself between you and your creator, and has a grip on society.

I did not suggest dismantling immediately, but it needs to be a goal if we want to live in a humanely functioning society.
