"It's Panic Porn Clickbait" - Media Scare-Stories About Hospitals Are Misleading

You can't turn on your TV, flip open your tablet, or scroll your social media feed today without being bombarded by horrifying stories of over-worked nurses and doctors and throat-grabbing headlines about COVID-driven hospitalizations amid the casedemic.

Time to panic?

Perhaps not, as El Gato Malo (@boriquagato) notes in the following information-full twitter thread: while it's disappointing to see that we are back in the "media scare stories about hospitals" stage, the good news is that, just like last time, this is simply not the case.

They either have no idea what they are saying or are seeking to mislead…

Let's look.

That's a scary headline. It's also a false one.

We have data on this (and so would they if they bothered to get any)

Idaho: (as of 12/4) 57% of inpatient beds used, 14.6% covid. 74% overall ICU

The Supreme Court vs. Pennsylvania

The U.S. Constitution was directly violated in the presidential election in Pennsylvania and half a dozen states. A new friend of the court brief filed last Thursday explains in the U.S. Supreme Court, in the case of Joseph B. Scarnati v. Pennsylvania Democrat Party, et al.

First, can anything be done? Each state legislature has the power to cure invalid elections in their state by directly appointing the Electors from their state who will vote in the Electoral College on December 14, 2020. We do not lack legal and constitutional remedies. We lack elected officials with guts.

The Supreme Court brief chronicles many times when State legislatures have directly chosen the Electors. 3 U.S. Code § 2 makes clear that the Legislature can directly appoint Electors even after election day if there is a failure for any reason of an election:

3 U.S. Code § 2 Failure to make choice on prescribed day

Whenever any State has held an election for the purpose of choosing electors, and has failed to make a choice on the day prescribed by law, the electors may be appointed on a subsequent day in such a manner as the legislature of such State may direct.

The White House Watch Fund, Conservative Christian Center of Pennsylvania, Americans for a Conservative Agenda, and individual Pennsylvania and other voters filed a brief as independent interested parties.

The U.S. Constitution requires that only state legislatures can set the rules for choosing Electors who elect a U.S. president. Article II, Section 1, Clause 2 of the U.S. Constitution requires that "Each State shall appoint, in such manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a number of electors, equal to the whole of number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress…"[emphasis added].

The brief clarifies that the selection of a president is a federal function. It is a process of the U.S. government for choosing the federal president. The legislature is not setting laws governing within their state. Therefore, all the usual mechanisms of a state do not play a role. This does not involve the Governor, the courts, election officials, etc. Second, the Constitution delegates a role only to the legislatures of the states. Therefore, only the election laws passed by the legislature control. Third, by habit we hold combined presidential, state, and local elections on the same day together. But the constitutional requirements for president do not change. Fourth, therefore, changes made to the rules in 2020 are unconstitutional because the Elector Clause gives authority only to the state legislature. State courts and election officials can modify rules for state elections, but not for president.

‘Humanity is Not Ready Yet’: Ex-Israeli Space Security Head Claims Aliens Exist, Signed Deal With US

Haim Eshed served as the head of Israeli’s space security program for nearly 30 years and has been given the Israel Security Award on three separate occasions by an Israeli president. The now-87-year-old professor retired from Israel’s Ministry of Defense in 2011.

Eshed, who retired with a lieutenant colonel military rank, recently claimed in an interview with the Yedioth Ahronoth outlet that not only do extraterrestrials exist, but they also signed an agreement with the US government “to do experiments.”

In a translation provided by the Jewish Press, the former space security head explained that the alleged aliens “are researching and trying to understand the whole fabric of the universe, and they want [humans] as helpers.”

“They have been waiting for humanity to evolve and reach a stage where we will generally understand what space and spaceships are,” Eshed said, before adding that the cooperation has even reportedly expanded to the red planet, where no human has officially stepped foot.

“There’s an underground base in the depths of Mars, where their representatives are, and also our American astronauts.”

Asked why this information hasn’t been revealed before, Eshed stated that officials opted to not release it because the alleged “UFOs have asked not to publish that they are here.” He added that “humanity is not ready yet.”

However, he did indicate that US President Donald Trump “was on the verge of revealing [their existence] but the aliens in the Galactic Federation [said] ‘Wait, let people calm down first.'”

“They don’t want to start mass hysteria,” he continued. “They want to first make us sane and understanding.”

Acknowledging that his remarks do come across as far-fetched, Eshed further said that he would have been “hospitalized” had he “come up with what [he's] saying today five years ago.” The former Israeli government official noted that he decided to voice the allegations now simply because the academic landscape has changed.

“Today they’re already talking differently. I have nothing to lose. I’ve received my degrees and awards, I am respected in universities abroad, where the trend is also changing,” he said.

Incidentally, Eshed’s commentary also comes alongside the release of a new book in which he discusses the cosmos.

Earlier this year, the US Department of Defense announced that it had established a task force to specifically investigate unidentified aerial phenomena so as to have a better understanding of them and to gain insight into such occurrences. The task force’s establishment came a few months after the US Navy made public three videos in which unidentified flying objects were caught by cameras aboard US military aircraft.

Recently, former US President Barack Obama was asked about UFOs during an interview with comedian and late-night television host Stephen Colbert. Although Obama never spilled the beans on whether or not aliens were in fact real, he did indicate that he “certainly asked about it.”

Ratcliffe: China Is the Only Country with ‘Capability’ and ‘Specific Plan’ of ‘Taking Away the American Dream’

On Monday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe stated that no other country comes close to posing the threat to the U.S. that China does and “no other country has the capability of essentially taking away the American Dream and a specific plan to do so, and the intelligence is clear.”

Ratcliffe said, “There are a lot of people who, for economic reasons, don’t want China to be our greatest threat. There are a lot of people who, for political reasons, don’t want China to be our greatest threat in America. But the intelligence doesn’t lie. China is our greatest threat, and it’s not even close, no other country has the capability of essentially taking away the American Dream and a specific plan to do so, and the intelligence is clear.”

Atlanta Mayor Lance Bottoms: African-Americans Will Have ‘More Trust’ Vaccine Is Safe Under Biden

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said Monday on CNN’s “The Situation Room” that African-Americans will have more confidence in the safety of a coronavirus vaccine under the administration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

Anchor Wolf Blitzer said, “We’re getting closer and closer to an approved vaccine, but a new Pew Research poll shows only 42% of African-Americans say they would definitely or probably get the vaccine. How problematic could that lack of confidence be?”

Bottoms said, “Well, Wolf, it is problematic, but you know the history. It goes back many decades, of course, to the Tuskegee experiment on African-Americans being intentionally injected with a disease. So there is a history there. This is going to take a lot of education. It is going to take creating trust with a community of people.”

She added, “I do believe once there is a transition of power, there will be more trust in Biden-Harris administration. And I think that will go a long way giving people confidence that this vaccine will be safe.”

Blitzer said, “I suspect you’re right.”

Alan Jones refuses to deny having sex with schoolboys when he was a teacher in defamation case against the SBS

Alan Jones has refused to deny having sex with schoolboys in a detailed list of 30 questions as per the below email that I sent to him via his lawyers regarding his defamation case against the SBS and presenter Alex Lee with Jones claiming one of the alleged imputations was that “Mr Jones was a paedophile”.

I emailed Alan Jones’ lawyers again today (7/12/20) and asked them to answer the questions I sent them and again they have not responded as per the below email.

Alan Jones is in a lot of trouble and has either been poorly advised legally or has ignored the advice he has received which I outlined in my article in October titled “Alan Jones sues SBS for defamation for implying he is a paedophile, racist and liar. So where’s the defamation?“

SBS filed their defence on Wednesday (2/11/20) and they clearly plan on fighting hard for what is right. It has been reported:

SBS has just filed its defence, denying the meanings claimed by Jones’ lawyers and pleading honest opinion; a truth defence; that other meanings in the broadcast which were more damaging to Jones are true; and finally that Jones’ reputation is so bad he couldn’t be damaged by SBS’ broadcast.

This last category offers most fireworks. How do you show a reputation is too bad to defame? SBS’ lawyers will be trawling through almost every aspect of Jones’ career.

That’s before SBS details what it describes as romantic letters he wrote to two schoolboys while a high school teacher in the 1970s. (Click here to read more. It’s behind The Financial Review paywall)

Dear Mr Dale, Mr Jefferies, Ms Chrysanthou and Mr Smark

I will be publishing another article regarding Alan Jones’s defamation case against the SBS with the working title “Alan Jones refuses to deny having sex with schoolboys when he was a teacher in defamation case against the SBS”.

Could you please respond to the questions below that I sent you on the 16th of October 2020 by 6pm today or make any comment that you wish.

Subject: Alan Jones – media questions – Kangaroo Court of Australia

Dear Mr Jefferies, Ms Chrysanthou and Mr Smark

I have some questions for an article I am writing about Alan Jones and his defamation lawsuit against the SBS and SBS presenter Alex Lee.

Can you confirm that Alan Jones threatened the ABC and former ABC journalist Chris Masters in 2005/2006 not to publish the book “Jonestown”?

Can you confirm why Alan Jones never sued for defamation after the book “Jonestown” was published in 2006 by another publisher after the ABC refused to publish it after the threat?

Can you confirm the following extract in the book “Jonestown” as published by the SMH on the 21st October 2006 as being true and correct:

Ex-FBI director clears Papa John's founder of racial bias, slams 'clearly inaccurate' media

Louis Freeh says some reporters "falsely construed" John Schnatter's comments on NFL controversy, creating cancel culture moment in board room.

In a detailed rebuke of the news media, former FBI Director Louis Freeh said his exhaustive investigation of Papa John's founder John Schnatter found no evidence of racial animus, citing corporate transcripts that directly contradict news reports suggesting the pizza executive had criticized NFL players for kneeling during the national anthem.

"A thorough examination … found that the public comments by Mr. Schnatter were neither intended nor can reasonably be interpreted to reflect any racial bias, prejudice, or disrespect for African Americans or people of color," Freeh wrote in a report slated to be made public Tuesday.

"Any attempt by some media to characterize Mr. Schnatter's statements as attacking NFL players or the basis for their protest was factually incorrect, and in effect an editorial comment by the reporting facility," he added.

The report, a copy of which was obtained Monday evening by Just the News, was commissioned by Schnatter's law firm.

File

FreehFinalReport.pdf

It provided a detailed analysis showing how false and misleading media reporting drove a cancel culture movement inside the board room, ultimately forcing Schnatter to resign in 2018 from the pizza company he founded in 1984 and made famous with TV commercials showcasing NFL stars.

Freeh compared the verbatim corporate transcripts where Schnatter talked about race issues in 2017 and 2018 to the news stories about the comments, exposing what he said were misleading and inaccurate reports prior to Schnatter's resignation as chaiman. It documented how truncated quotes and outright inaccuracies created a false public narrative.

In one instance, Freeh cited an Associated Press article headlined "Papa John's apologizes for criticizing NFL anthem protests" that suggested Schnatter was "blaming sluggish pizza sales on NFL players kneeling during the national anthem."

Freeh pointed out that the full transcript of Schnatter's comments during an earnings call in 2017 showed he never criticized the anthem protests at all. Rather the iconic pizza executive criticized NFL leadership for failing to resolve "the current debacle to the player and owner's satisfaction," Freeh wrote, pulling quotes verbatim from the transcript.
