Missing Fort Bragg soldier was decapitated, investigators say
The severed head that washed ashore in North Carolina near Cape Lookout National Seashore in May has been identified as 21-year-old Enrique Roman-Martinez, a soldier from Fort Bragg.
Roman-Martinez, a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division, was last seen May 22. Friends reported him missing three days later, after finding his phone and wallet at a campsite. His severed head was found May 29.
The rest of Roman-Martinez's body was not found, but medical examiners concluded that the injuries around his neck were consistent with decapitation and ruled his death a homicide.
Special agents with the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command are offering a $15,000-$25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.
Officials are also investigating the murders of a soldier and a veterans whose bodies were discovered in early December at a Fort Bragg, N.C., training area.
