There are multiple nation state entities who can aggregate public and purchased data (FB,Goog etc) to produce a complete life history and real time monitoring of any individual anywhere who uses the anonymous, irremediably insecure internet.
Not just national state intel agencies. Private companies. religious groups. PMCs, what-have-yous.
When an enemy or an advertiser has that data, it is possible to engineer individual or group media and news feeds to produce desired behavior by the TAs free choice.
If we want a network where this is not possible we will have to build it. The future is not delivered to us. We must choose it. Right now it is not possible to know what choices are available to us. It is not possible to reliably distinguish between important and true and trivial and false on networks like the internet that support anonymous injection of information and where sources maybe trivially spoofed.
