Might be able to do some GMRS/FRS depending model.
Otherwise you really want and HF rig.
I do have a few of them as throw away radios.
Get a repeater directory to carry with you. That little radio is only good for a few miles. A repeater expands that, and link repeaters can go world wide.
Of course if shit pops, repeaters are not likely to stay up either.
