Biden Names China Critic Katherine Tai As Top US Trade Official

One day after it was revealed that Joe Biden's son, Hunter, was being probed for tax fraud and Chinese influence peddling - something we first reported at the end of October in "Blockbuster Report Reveals How Biden Family Was Compromised By China", the Biden team - desperate to bury the fact that his family is beholden to Chinese dictator for life Xi Jinping - announced Katherine Tai, a trade lawyer with a history of taking on China, would replace Lighthizer as US Trade Representative; Tai is on record as saying China needs to be confronted strongly and strategically.

Born in Connecticut to Taiwanese parents, Tai speaks Mandarin fluently and is a graduate of Yale University and Harvard Law School. She taught English for two years at Zhongshan University in Guangzhou, southern China, from 1996 to 1998 as a Yale-China Fellow. She gained fame as the Democrats’ leading trade counsel in negotiating stronger labor provisions with the Republicans’ Lighthizer-led team in the US-Mexico-Canada trade agreement.

If confirmed by the Senate, Tai would inherit a critical position of continuing the US trade war with China, and would be tasked with enforcing America’s import rules and brokering trading terms with China and other nations.

In choosing Tai, the senior trade lawyer on the House Ways and Means Committee, the Biden team likely signals an intent to return to a more multilateral trade approach to advance US trade interests and confront growing economic competition from China, according to CNBC. Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris emphasized Tai’s experience in a press release Thursday.

"Her deep experience will allow the Biden-Harris administration to hit the ground running on trade, and harness the power of our trading relationships to help the U.S. dig out of the COVID-induced economic crisis and pursue the President-elect’s vision of a pro-American worker trade strategy," the Biden transition team wrote.

Tai would succeed current trade czar Robert Lighthizer, whose achievements during the Trump administration include a more-forceful tact in negotiations with Beijing and the imposition of hundreds of billions of dollars worth of tariffs on goods imported from China.

Though Tai may favor multilateral enforcement mechanisms more than Lighthizer, her leadership as USTR wouldn’t necessarily signal a change to the tougher stance toward China. She has said that China should be addressed forcefully and strategically.

“They both also have a long history of dealing with China’s unfair practices, the most pressing trade issue of our time,” according to former top White House trade negotiator Clete Willems. “Where Katherine’s approach is most likely to differ is on how she uses the WTO system and alliances to pressure China to change behavior.”

From 2007 to 2014, Tai successfully litigated Washington’s disputes against Beijing at the WTO, the global trade organization based in Geneva, Switzerland. Lighthizer and his team, frustrated with what they viewed as slow-moving bureaucracy and China’s influence at the WTO and World Bank, often opted to work around the WTO and take a more direct approach through tariffs. The U.S. still has import duties on $370 billion of Chinese imports.

In August, Tai called for a different approach to China from the years-long tariff war waged by Lighthizer and said the use of import taxes are actually a defensive maneuver. Rep. Don Beyer, D-Va., said in a press release Wednesday evening that Tai would be a smart choice for USTR based on their time working together on the Ways and Means Committee.

“She is smart, deeply knowledgeable, and committed to getting trade policy right for our workers, businesses, and the environment,” Beyer said.

“Katherine is widely respected and well-liked, but will also be a tough and principled negotiator,” he added. “She is exactly the right kind of cooperative leader to help return rationality to our trade policy and restore the respect of our allies around the world.”

Offshore Firm Tied To Lebanon Central Bank Governor Sold Stock to Bank He Regulates

A company tied to Lebanon’s central bank governor bought a stake in his son’s company, then sold it to a major Lebanese bank that he regulates, OCCRP and Daraj.com have learned.

These findings raise questions about whether the deal represented a conflict of interest for controversial Banque du Liban (BdL) Governor Riad Salame, whose extensive offshore real estate investments were the subject of an investigation published in August by OCCRP and Daraj.com, its partner in Lebanon.

The transaction involved shares in Crossbridge Capital, a London wealth management firm, that were held by an obscure Panama-registered company, Crossland Assets Corp. Salame’s son, Nady, formerly worked for Crossbridge and retains shares in his old firm.

Bank Audi, Lebanon’s largest bank, acquired the Crossland shares in 2016, as Riad Salame was instituting a controversial monetary policy that benefited the bank to the tune of $1.6 billion.

Who was behind Crossland Assets? It is impossible to say because its ownership is shielded by corporate secrecy laws. But there are clues tying it to Riad Salame.

Crossland was set up on the same day in 2008 and placed under the same management as another Panamanian company, Merrion Capital S.A., that gave Riad Salame a luxury apartment in London. The same group — two directors, two subscribers, an agent, and a treasurer — also managed Crossland’s sole shareholder, a Liechtenstein trust company.

Crossland was only two months old when it acquired the Crossbridge Capital shares, suggesting it was established for the purpose of buying them from another Panama shell company, Westlake Commercial Inc. Westlake’s ownership, and the terms of the transfer to Crossland Assets, are unknown.

Westlake, which has reported no other business activity, previously paid Crossbridge Capital $2.5 million for about 5 percent of the company.

Under Lebanese law, the Central Bank governor is prohibited from engaging in outside business beyond holding securities or shares in joint stock companies.

Ali Zbeeb, a Beirut-based lawyer and expert in international banking and financial regulation, told OCCRP that violating the prohibition would be considered a conflict of interest that could prompt removal from office.

No public records show a direct link between Riad Salame and Crossland Assets, nor is there direct evidence that he broke the law. However, OCCRP’s findings raise serious questions the powerful governor has refused to address.

OCCRP asked Salame three times over four months if he held an interest in Crossland Assets. Each time he deflected or ignored the question.

“We fail to understand this question,” he said through his attorney. He said OCCRP should contact Crossbridge Capital, which cited EU confidentiality directives in declining comment.

When asked again about Crossland Assets, Salame responded, “Any private matter is not open for discussion.” When asked about Westlake, Salame responded, “We have not identified any matter of public interest in your email… Consequently, we have nothing more to address in this communication.”

$5bn For 7 Districts: Leaked Conversation Between Lukashenko And Sargsyan Shows Who Truly Betrayed Armenia

Following the end of the Nagorno-Karabakh war, and the refusal of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to assume any actual responsibility, there’s been quite a bit of chaos in Armenia.

Pashinyan has blamed everybody for the failure, including the people themselves, the opposition, the international community, and the previous Armenian leadership.

However, on December 7th, a leaked conversation was reminded of between Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and third President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan.

The conversation took place back in the autumn of 2016, at the CSTO summit in Yerevan.

The ex-president’s press service has confirmed the authenticity of the recording.

Notably, in the conversation Lukashenko tells Sargsyan to give up the 7 districts of Nagorno-Karabakh that Azerbaijan got after the peace deal was struck on November 10th, 2020.

Lukashenko said that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev offered to pay $5 billion for Yerevan to give up the districts.

In response, Sargsyan, who Pashinyan dubbed a traitor, said that he would pay Aliyev $6 billion to give up on these 7 districts.

“Regarding the audio recording, which was disseminated by one of the telegram channels last night, the office of the third president received numerous requests from the media, who want to find out whether the discussion contained in the audio recording is true, when it took place, where and why the third president of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, has not yet spoke about it,” the Sargsyan office commented.

Armenians are mostly perplexed as to how the recording of the non-public conversation of the presidents during the meeting in a restricted format at the session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) held in Yerevan on October 14, 2016, ended up on the Internet.

“The office of the third president accepts the publication of the audio recording as fact and refrains from commenting, given the fact that the meetings held in a closed format are not subject to comment, as they were not subject to until now,” the commentary said.

According to the conversation, Lukashenko does not agree with Sargsyan’s assertion that seven districts will “bare” the borders of Artsakh and leave its 150,000-population face to face with Azerbaijan. Therefore, real security mechanisms are needed.

The Belarusian leader offers the CSTO as an organization to take responsibility.

“For example, we must send certain peacekeeping forces there,” he said.

But at the same time, he doubted that having received the regions, the President of Azerbaijan will start a war.

“Your position is weak. I will not give up seven districts, because then you will immediately start fighting against me. And if you do not start,” he told Sargsyan.

In response, the back-then Armenian leader answered:

“Of course, what does it mean if he doesn’t start? And if he does? Alexander Grigorievich, why just give it away, I don’t understand.”

And this is when Lukashenko says Aliyev is ready to pay Armenia 5 billion (dollars) in the first stage. The President of Armenia says that he is ready to give Aliyev 6 billion, and let him give up these regions.

Also, according to the President of Armenia, he cannot give these seven regions, since the blood of five thousand Armenian soldiers has been shed there.

“So what? We’ve lost 30 million, but we are not at war with the Germans,” Lukashenko said.

Grassley slams media HYPOCRISY And Failure to Inform Americans on FBI Probe into Hunter Biden

Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee Chuck Grassley slammed the media Thursday for its hypocrisy in failing to investigate, refusing to publish the truth and cover-up the allegations against President-elect Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden, who is now under an FBI criminal probe.

Moreover, the media wasn’t the only culprit. It is evident based on stories published in the media prior to the Nov. 3, general election that the intelligence community, in sync with social media tech platforms also repressed and censored stories that could have damaged Biden’s chances at the presidency.

Currently, President Donald Trump, along with 17 States in the Union, are fighting in the courts to expose what they allege is extreme election fraud that led to Biden’s victory. They are absolutely right in challenged the election and presenting the allegations of fraud by dozens of witnesses that volunteered during the election.

The nation is at a crossroads and it’s uncertain where we are headed.

Grassley didn’t hold back. As the former head of the Senate Judiciary Committee he is keenly aware of the false investigations against Trump by the FBI and the intelligence community during the past four years. He is also leading the charge, along with Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., to investigate the litany of evidence against Hunter Biden and his business dealings with Ukraine, Russia and China.

“For over a year, Senator Johnson and I investigated the Biden family financial dealings,” said Grassley. “We found that they engaged in potential criminal financial deals across the globe, including China, which created counterintelligence concerns.”

Grassley noted that he made the work and findings public, “but the liberal media and Democrats chose to dismiss it. They even falsely claimed our work was Russian disinformation in order to protect the Biden’s.”

He said the same liberal outlets that disparaged “our investigation now report that Hunter Biden’s financial deals in China raised counterintelligence concerns.”

Moreover, said Grassley it was the Biden Transition Team on Wednesday that “confirmed that Hunter Biden is under criminal investigation for his taxes and financial dealings. It’s outrageous that the Fourth Estate would choose to ignore facts when they are uncovered by Republicans.”

“I don’t do oversight for the fun of it,” he said. “It’s serious business. It shouldn’t take subpoenas and confirmation from Hunter Biden himself to get the rest of the press to pay attention.”

The media isn’t doing its job and that’s apparent but it will be up to the American people to call them out and hold the media accountable because it is failing our republic.

Under Veto Threat and During a Violent Crime Wave, Minneapolis City Council Cuts Police Budget

The Minneapolis city council passed a budget bill that cut the police funding by 8 percent, directing the money toward mental health and violence prevention programs.

But they also kept in place plans to hire more officers in the future. And the cuts didn’t take officers off the streets.

Minneapolis is in the midst of a serious crime wave following the riots and unrest from last summer that were triggered by the death of George Floyd at the hands of police officers. Radicals on the city council wanted to reduce the number of officers currently on the street and even eliminate the police department entirely.

But Mayor Jacob Frey, who postured like a radical until it became clear they wanted to hand the city over to rioters, threatened to veto such a measure. The budget narrowly passed the council 7-6.

Minneapolis Star Tribune:

The 2021 budget served as the latest venue for debates on changing the police department after George Floyd’s death and a subsequent pledge by a majority of council members to end the department. As the talks unfolded, city leaders deliberated whether they should leave the department mostly intact while building out new services, or cut the department to fund them.

While the city is seeking to change its public safety system, it is also experiencing a crime wave that includes more than 500 shootings.

In truth, the police department will be on a very short leash.

The council also placed $11.4 million in a reserve fund they created. That fund will include about $6.4 million that was included in Frey’s plan to hire two police recruit classes, and about $5 million that could be used to offset cuts council members made to police overtime. To access that money, the police department will need additional approval from City Council in votes next year.

Earlier this year, the council enthusiastically embraced a plan to totally dismantle the police force and replace it with unarmed social workers and mental health professionals. That plan failed when the city charter commission ruled that the issue would not go before the voters in 2020 in a referendum.

So the radicals aren’t done — not by a long shot. One wonders how successful they might have been if Minneapolis hadn’t become worse than Dodge City on a Saturday night.

According to police data, more than 500 people have been shot in Minneapolis this year – twice as many as 2019. Murders are up more than 50%. There have also been nearly 5,000 violent crimes, the highest level in the past five years.

And though the widespread riots may have subsided temporarily, there is the potential for more unrest in the new year. The four officers who are facing charges in Floyd’s death will stand trial starting March 8.

I can see the potential value of mental health professionals riding along with police on some calls. But sending out “conflict resolution experts” to deal with a screaming addict waving a gun in an officer’s direction? Perhaps some of those city council members should do a ride-along with police and see what they have to deal with day in and day out.

France: Amazon And Google Were Fined Millions For Breaking This Rule

Both companies have been fined for their use of so-called cookies

In separate charges, France’s data protection agency said Thursday it fined Amazon and the parent company of Google millions of dollars for violating its policies on advertising cookies.

The National Commission for Informatics and Liberty, known as CNIL for the French-language name, said it fined Google 100 million euros (roughly $121 million USD) for placing tracking devices known as cookies on the computers of users of the French search engine google.fr without consent.

Cookies are small data packages stored on a computer browser that lets a website identify users and remember their previous online activity.

The French government said the sanctions were the result of a March 16 investigation into the French portal for Google. It found that many of the cookies placed on computers were deposited for advertising purposes.

“Since this type of cookies can only be placed after the user has expressed his or her consent, the restricted committee considered that the companies had not complied with the requirement provided for in Article 82 of the French Data Protection Act regarding the collection of prior consent before placing cookies that are not essential to the service,” the CNIL explained Thursday.

According to Reuters, the penalty is the French government’s largest ever fine for such an incident.

In a separate announcement, the CNIL said it was imposing a penalty of 35 million euros (approximately $42 million USD) on the French portal for Amazon for similar reasons following investigations that ran from December 2019 to May. CNIL investigators “noticed that no matter what path the users used to visit the website, they were either insufficiently informed or never informed of the fact that cookies were placed on their computer.”

Google, in a statement carried by Reuters, said it stood by its record on data governance.

“Today’s decision under French ePrivacy laws overlooks these efforts and doesn’t account for the fact that French rules and regulatory guidance are uncertain and constantly evolving,” the statement read.

Amazon argued against the penalty on similar grounds, saying it was consistently updating its privacy practices to ensure that it complies with various privacy laws while also catering to the evolving needs and expectations of its users.

Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized LabCorp’s Pixel COVID-19 Test Home Collection Kit for use by any individual 18 years and older without a prescription. This product, which is authorized as the first COVID-19 direct-to-consumer (non-prescription) test system, allows an individual to self-collect a nasal swab sample at home and then send that sample for testing to LabCorp. Positive or invalid test results are then delivered to the user by phone call from a health care provider. Negative test results are delivered via email or online portal.

This home sample collection kit can be purchased online or in a store without a prescription. It is intended to enable users to access information about their COVID-19 infection status that could aid with determining if self-isolation (quarantine) is appropriate and to assist with health care decisions after discussion with a health care professional.

“This is the first kit for consumers to self-collect a nasal sample for COVID-19 in their home that does not require a prescription,” said Jeff Shuren, M.D., J.D., director of FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health. “While many home collection kits can be prescribed with a simple online questionnaire, this newly authorized direct-to-consumer collection kit removes that step from the process, allowing anyone to collect their sample and send it to the lab for processing.”

Eric Swalwell’s brother, dad finally unfriend Chinese spy Christine Fang

The father and brother of Rep. Eric Swalwell unfriended the suspected Chinese spy who got close to the California Democrat and other elected officials in a bid to infiltrate the US political system.

Eric Swalwell, the congressman’s father, and Joshua, his brother, had remained friends on Facebook with Christine Fang, also known as Fang Fang, as late as Wednesday, even after the lawmaker said he cut off all ties with the suspected spy after being briefed by the FBI, Fox News reported.

She left the country in 2015 amid the FBI investigation into her activities.

But in 2016, she liked a video posted by Joshua on his Facebook page with his brother.

Posing as a college student, Fang arrived in the country in 2011 and first met Swalwell when he was a councilman in Dublin, Calif.

Swalwell was the highest profile politician involved with Fang, who allegedly bedded two Midwestern mayors in her attempts to cozy up to elected officials and glean information about the political system.

The congressman, who sits on the House Intelligence Committee, has refused to address whether he had sex with Fang.

“Rep. Swalwell, long ago, provided information about this person — whom he met more than eight years ago, and whom he hasn’t seen in nearly six years — to the FBI,” Swalwell’s office told Axios, which first reported the story. “To protect information that might be classified, he will not participate in your story.”

Almost half of the Union has signed on, or expressed a desire to sign on, to Texas's Supreme Court lawsuit challenging the election

With today’s additions of Wyoming and Ohio, a total of 21 states – including Texas – are signed on or seek to be signed on to the Supreme Court lawsuit challenging the elections in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

Since Texas filed the suit, over 20 states have joined or expressed an interest in joining. As it now stands, the following states are seeking a Supreme Court remedy to the November 3 election: Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Indiana, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Ohio, West Virginia, and Florida.

Election Interference: Twitter Lets Georgia Runoff Misinformation Go Viral, No Warning Label

While promising to crack down on election misinformation on its platform and labeling a large number of President Donald Trump’s posts, Twitter allowed misinformation about Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) to spread virally across its platform freely.

Social media giant Twitter has promised to make many efforts to prevent the spread of misinformation on its platform. In recent months the site has blocked users from sharing links to lawyer Sidney Powell’s lawsuit relating to widespread voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election, announcing plans to send users warnings if they attempt to “like” tweets that Twitter determines constitute misinformation, and repeatedly censoring or labeling tweets from Trump relating to the recent election.

However, despite Twitter’s supposed dedication to cracking down on misinformation, the site allowed a number of tweets about Loeffler to spread virally across its platform, some with tens of thousands of likes are still active on the platform with no warnings or labels whatsoever.

One tweet has amassed almost 80,000 likes and has been retweeted over 25 thousand times. It claims that Loeffler is campaigning in the Georgia Senate runoff elections on “understanding what it feels like living paycheck to paycheck.” The tweet includes a picture of a large home with a pool, claiming that it is one of Loeffler’s five homes. It is not.

The photo in the picture is actually the home of TV host and comedian Steve Harvey; before Harvey owned the house actor and producer Tyler Perry owned the home. One tweet with 642 likes pointed this out in reply to the initial tweet:

When searching Twitter for “Kelly Loeffler” the term “Kelly Loeffler House” is immediately suggested by Twitter. A number of other false and misleading tweets about Loeffler’s homes can be found under the search term:

None of these tweets were labeled by Twitter as misinformation and still remain on the platform with no restrictions whatsoever despite multiple users tagging the @TwitterSupport official account in order to raise awareness of the issue.

Twitter has not responded to a Breitbart News request for comment.

A CBS field reporter was filming in front of Mac’s Public House Bar, a restaurant that defied the state’s COVID small business lockdown.

A man filming asked the reporter, “How come you guys didn’t cover the Hunter Biden laptop story? How come you didn’t cover the fact that Hunter Biden is comprised by the Chinese Communist Party?”

There was no reply and he asked again, “Huh? How about that? How about that? How about the blatant voter fraud? How about the blatant voter fraud?”

Another individual approached the man with the camera blocking him and he said, “Are you gonna send out this little hobbit to try and block my camera. He can’t even reach up to my phone! [Phone was knocked out of hand] -serving the purpose of the American people and that’s assault.”

The reporter asked him how to pronounce Kamala Harris’s name.

The man filming responded, “I don’t know. All I know is she’s a serial abuser of African-American civil liberties. How many Black people did she keep in jail after their sentence was up? She is a serial abuser of African American civil liberties. Joe Biden hates Black people. How many times do he say the N-word on the floor of the Senate? Huh? The people you’re serving do not want to help the African American community. They want us divided. That’s the only way they can be successful.”

The CBS reporter claimed he was not motivated by any political agendas.

The reporter said, “The people we as journalists serve are people like you, people in the community, we’re not affiliated with any sort of Republican, Democratic liberal party that you think is the case.”

The man responded, “That’s not true.”

The reporter continued, “When you start coming over here trying to harass us while we’re doing our job.”

“So why don’t you ask for an interview from someone who supports them?” the man filming asked.

Companies connected to Gov. Gavin Newsom received nearly $3 million in federal PPP loans: report

One business received seven times the average amount for a small business of in similar size

At least eight companies partially owned by California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) received millions of dollars through the Paycheck Protection Program, according to a new report.

PlumpJack, a wine business Newsom started in 1992, received nearly $3 million in PPP loans, according to a report from KGO-TV. The Small Business Administration's loan program "helps businesses keep their workforce employed during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis."

PlumpJack Management Group LLC includes five restaurants and bars, four Napa Valley wineries, a ski resort, and retail establishments, according to the company. At least nine companies affiliated with the PlumpJack Group received PPP loans, the report states.

One of the companies featured in the report is Villa Encinal Partners Limited Partnership, which has 14 employees and received a loan for $918,720 on April 14, 2020, just 11 days after the lending program launched, according to SBA data. Villa Encinal Partners Limited Partnership is linked to the PlumpJack winery in Napa, according to state records.

The Small Business Administration requires companies to spend 60% of PPP loans on wages.

"Hypothetically, if divided equally, each of them would've received around $40,000 to cover their payroll over a period of three months — that would amount to an annual salary of around $160,000 per employee," KGO-TV stated.

California wineries that received more than $900,000 in PPP funding had an average of 148 employees, according to the report.

Analysis from the report found that small businesses in California with 14 employees received an average PPP loan amount of $128,000; Villa Encinal Partners LP received seven times that amount.

"It's unexpected for a 14 employee organization to get nearly $1 million," said Sean Moulton, a senior policy analyst with the nonpartisan Project on Government Oversight. "The purpose behind this program was to save entry-level jobs, people going in and working on that paycheck. That was what we put this out there for, to stop unemployment.

In a global operation spanning 19 EU member states and eight other countries, authorities cracked down on the illegal and counterfeit medication market, arrested hundreds of suspects and seized nearly US$100 million in fake drugs, Europol stated Thursday.

“During the operation, law enforcement officers dismantled 25 criminal groups, arrested nearly 700 suspects and seized large amounts of anti-cancer drugs, erectile dysfunction medicines, pseudoephedrine, various doping substances (hormone and metabolic regulators), drugs, painkillers, antioestrogens, antivirals, hypnotics, antihistamines and anxiolytics,” Europol said.

It stressed that the trafficking of fake or illegal medications has been a lucrative enterprise for criminal organizations across the globe.

“Organized crime groups are increasingly diverting their activities into this criminal field, which provides high profits with lower risks of detection,” the agency explained.

Europol also warned that “the misuse of medicines outside their intended use has become commonplace,” and that consumers “turn to these medicines for different reasons including psychotropic, recreational or performance-enhancing purposes and consume them without medical prescriptions.”

However, the problem has only been encouraged by the novel coronavirus pandemic, which has offered criminal groups new opportunities to extort medical systems, and exploit the fears of the larger population.

“We have seen with the current COVID-19 crisis that criminals have no problems in abusing people’s fears,” Europol’s Executive Director, Catherine De Boll, said.

She also warned that “counterfeit and misused medicines are a growing threat not only because it generates large illegal profits, but because it also represents a serious risk to public health,” as fake antiviral products, unauthorized COVID-19 tests and medical devices like face masks and sanitizers could expose the public to high health risks, even death.
