Guise, are any of you good at programming scanners so we can stay informed (more than through conventional methods, at least) in these difficult times?

Does anyone have any recommended YouTube links through which I can please learn how to program a scanner? The model of scanner that I inherited is a Radio Shack Pro-651.

I'm confused about how to add the trunked frequencies, and whether the frequencies, in general, have to be added in ascending numerical order (whether analog or digital).

The reason I'm confused is that I used to program a Radio Shack Pro-97, manually, for my late mother. When I did that I would have to plug the frequencies in ascending order, and if they got mixed up (in any given bank) then the scanning would not work.

I used to be good about programming that for my mom, and now certain departments in my area have gone to digital scanning.

So if you have any links to recommend, for how I can program this Pro-651 myself (by hand), I'd sure appreciate it.

Oh, one more thing: I asked this question of the guys who run ScannerMaster.com up in Massachusetts and they were completely useless. They wanted me to simply mail my device to them and they would program it for me, at a rather high cost. I don't want them to do that because my Radio Reference Guidebook has lots of frequencies that are not publicly available, and I don't want the ScannerMaster people managing my news (like Twatter, FacePooh, etc.). I just want to know how best to program it myself, and I'm happy to do it manually.

Thank you very much, patriots.

P.S. I am in possession of a Radio Shack frequency book called POLICE CALL for the New York/New England area, published in 2002. I believe it is the last year this guide was published. I can send post frequencies from that if any of you request them.

Baker - maybe we can make a "Police Scanner Information" thread or something, because I think that if SHTF soon, as predicted, more Anons may want to utilize a scanner to know what is going on around them.

P.P.S. I'm hoping to load some of the frequencies from here (http://www.olyham.net/library/Radioshack%20Guide%20To%20Scanners.pdf), too.

With possible military action, etc., right now, the more frequencies, the better.

Thank you again and God bless.

Well, thank you for the replies, guys. I was motivated to use different search terms, after reading your reply, and then I found this good channel on YouTube.

So it looks like I need to buy software license from RadioReference.com, but in today's unsettled times I think it'll be worth the investment.

This YouTube channel seems to have good info.

And yes, guys, I will make up a thread for Scanner People to congregate in. I just need to figure out how to do that next, lol.

Excellent point, Anon. I'm trying to line up alternate means of staying informed, and the old-fashioned, portable scanner seems like the best thing to use when the Internet goes down.

This channel I found, called Life of Dave, seems like the best resource I've found. Plus, the dude seems like he's one of us.
