Community organizer and 2016 Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that the Democrats were going to win the two U.S. Senate seats up in Georgia’s January runoff election.

Republican incumbents Sens. David Perdue (R-GA) and Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) are facing off against Democrats Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, respectively.

Anchor Tapper said, “Democrats have won just one of the eight statewide runoff elections held in Georgia since 1988. Some Republicans are worried that President Trump’s continued baseless claims of a rigged election might discourage their voters from showing up this time. Do you think that is real or Democratic wishful thinking?”

Abrams said, “Democrats are prepared to win this election. This is the first runoff where we have the level of investment and engagement that it takes to win a runoff. We know from the numbers we are in a good place. 1.2 million absentee ballots have been requested thus far, and just to put that into context, 1.3 million were requested for all of the general election. Of that 1.2 million, 85,000 of those applications are from voters who does not vote in the general election and disproportionately between 18 and 29 and disproportionately people of color. That signals that we understand that we may need to make a plan to vote and deliver this election.”

She added, “What Donald Trump is doing, the disinformation is deeply problematic. I don’t know if he is going to help our harm his team. But we know that on our side of the conversation, we are pushing for leaders who will actually do the work of delivering COVID relief to Georgia.”

U.N. Chief Orders World Leaders: Declare a Climate Emergency or Face ‘Catastrophic’ Results

Every world leader must immediately declare a “state of climate emergency” or face “catastrophic” results, U.N. chief Antonio Guterres warned Saturday.

Speaking at the opening of the Climate Ambition summit, held online to mark five years since the Paris Agreement, the Portuguese socialist warned nations’ current commitments were “far from enough” and were plainly unacceptable to the globalist body.

Around 70 heads of state and government took part in the meeting, which was organised by the UK, U.N. and France. They outlined broad new pledges and commitments to curb carbon but gave very little – if any – detail as to how that would be achieved.

“If we don’t change course, we may be headed for a catastrophic temperature rise of more than 3.0 degrees this century,” Guterres said.

Guterres said G20 nations were spending 50 percent more in their coronavirus rescue packages on sectors linked to fossil fuels than to low-carbon energy.

“This is unacceptable. We cannot use these resources to lock in policies that burden future generations with a mountain of debt on a broken planet,” he said via video-link, returning to a theme he expressed in the first week of December:

Guterres urged countries that had already announced net-zero targets to make good on their promises and to accelerate emissions cuts in line with the science.

“Every country, city, financial institution and company needs to adopt plans to reach net zero emissions by 2050 — and start executing them now, including by providing clear short-term targets,” he added.

One area that yielded little progress at the meeting was the question of finance. Rich countries had promised to mobilise $100bn a year from 2020 under the Paris Agreement – but the commitments on cash have largely been ignored.

Guterres has already said he awaits Joe Biden in the White House to provide U.S. taxpayer funds to remedy that cash shortfall.

John Durham Sought Christopher Steele’s Notes From A Meeting With The FBI In Which An Agent Said The Ex-Spy ‘Wasn’t Truthful’

U.S. Attorney John Durham requested Christopher Steele’s notes from meetings he had with FBI agents in 2016, according to a report from Politico, which indicates the prosecutor is focusing on aspects of the ex-spy’s infamous dossier.

Durham enlisted the help of a London-based law firm to obtain the notes. A prosecutor in Durham’s office also requested an interview with Steele earlier this year as part of an investigation into the U.S. government’s Trump-related intelligence activities.

An inspector general’s report quoted an FBI agent who said that Steele “clearly … wasn’t truthful” in one of his 2016 interviews regarding his interactions with the media.

Significant parts of Steele’s dossier have been debunked in the nearly four years since it was published.

John Durham, the U.S. attorney investigating aspects of the Trump-Russia probe, has sought notes that former British spy Christopher Steele took during his interviews in 2016 with the FBI regarding a since-debunked dossier he penned that accused the Trump campaign of colluding with the Russian government.

An FBI agent who took part in one of the interviews with Steele told Justice Department investigators that the ex-spy “clearly … wasn’t truthful” regarding his contacts with members of the media.

Politico reports that Steele and his attorneys have rebuffed the request from Durham, who sought the retired MI6 officer’s notes from meetings he had with FBI personnel on July 5, 2016, and on Oct. 3, 2016.

According to Politico, Durham’s office enlisted a private law firm in London, where Steele is based, to obtain the documents. The law firm filed a motion to unseal Steele’s notes, which were disclosed in a defamation case that the owners of the Russian bank Alfa Bank filed against Steele over allegations he made in the dossier.

Steele’s attorneys offered to provide the lawyers in London with his witness statements in the Alfa Bank case, but have not turned over notes he took during the FBI meetings, according to Politico.

A prosecutor for Durham’s office requested an interview with Steele in February, but he declined the request, Politico also reported.

Durham, the U.S. attorney for Connecticut, has been investigating the FBI and the CIA’s intelligence-gathering activities against the Trump campaign since May 2019. His investigation appears to have tracked closely with the findings of a Justice Department inspector general’s (IG) report released on Dec. 9, 2019, that blasted the FBI over its handling of the Steele dossier.

Fox News host Chris Wallace said on this week’s broadcast of “Fox News Sunday” that House Minority Whip Steve Scalise’s (R-LA) support for a Texas lawsuit was an attempt to “disenfranchising” 10 million Biden voters.”

Scalise said, “There’s going to ultimately be a conclusion to this, but for now I think if you just discount the fact that millions of people wonder why is it that in some states — Florida, Texas, large states, they had the results by 10:00 that night and then in other states, it was days and weeks, and during those days and weeks you saw massive vote swings that just seed a lot of distrust.”

Wallace said, “The reason that there was these vote swings was in a lot of states they weren’t able to count the millions of mail-in ballots until election night, and everybody knew — and in fact, it happened, in Florida, it went the other way. They were able to count the mail-in ballots early, so it favored Biden early, and then it swung to Trump. In Pennsylvania, they had to count the mail-in ballots late, so it started pro-Trump, and then it swung to Biden.”

Scalise said, “You know, there have been thousands of lawsuits, and they’ve been rejected by state courts, by federal courts, by federal courts, by judges appointed by Donald Trump. On Friday night, the Supreme Court, throughout a lawsuit that was brought by the attorney general of Texas and a number of other attorney generals, 126 Republicans in the House, including you, sir, signed onto that lawsuit. The Supreme Court threw it out without even listening to it. This is this lawsuit that was going to throw out the votes in four swing states, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. I mean, you were talking about disenfranchising the 10 million Biden voters who supported the president-elect in those four states. Do you feel comfortable throwing out millions of votes of your fellow Americans?”

Scalise responded, “Nobody wants any votes thrown out.”

Wallace said, “That’s what the lawsuit would have done, sir.”

Scalise said, “If you look at the Texas lawsuit, what it was saying if there are some states that didn’t follow the laws that were on their books. The Constitution is very clear that state legislatures set the process for having electors.”

Wallace said, “With all due respect, the Supreme Court threw that out. They didn’t even hear it. They didn’t think it even merited a hearing.”

Trump supporters “are not our enemies. They’re Americans,” Biden claimed. “This is the time to heal in America,” he said.

“I will work to be a president who seeks not to divide, but unify. I won’t see red states and blue states; I will always see the United States,” Biden said.

Judge Gives Residency to Migrant Who Set Village on Fire, Killing Multiple People

A judge has granted humanitarian residency to a Gambian migrant who admitted to having started fires in his native village, killing several people.

The migrant arrived in Italy in 2016 but was initially denied asylum by the Bologna Territorial Commission in September of 2018. He then appealed the decision to the Bologna court, which granted him a residency permit on humanitarian grounds late last month.

According to a report from newspaper Il Giornale, the migrant admitted to setting a large part of his village on fire.

He told judges that he had worked in the fields of his village after two years at an Islamic school, and one day he set dry grass on fire which spread to nearby houses due to heavy winds. The fire ultimately killed several people and put others in the hospital.

According to the migrant, relatives of the victims were so enraged they planned to kill him. He said he escaped the village after locals broke into his home and attacked him.

In 2015 he travelled to Libya where he remained for eleven months before coming to Italy illegally.

The judge who granted the Gambian residency said that he had no family to return to in his native country and claimed that he was on the path to integration, citing these as reasons for him to be allowed to remain in the country.

Humanitarian residency permits were scrapped for a period by former interior minister Matteo Salvini, of the populist League (Lega) party, as part of his security and migration decrees in 2018.

The decree was part of Salvini’s tough stance on mass migration which largely stopped migrant taxi NGOs from entering Italian ports and led to a huge decrease in new migrant arrivals and in drowning deaths in the Mediterranean sea.

The current leftist coalition government under Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, however, has fought against Salvini’s security decrees and sought to repeal them.

Feds Seize $1M in Cash Headed to Mexico at California Border Crossing

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working an international border crossing in Southern California seized more than $1 million in unreported currency headed to Mexico.

CBP officers assigned to the San Ysidro Port of Entry on December 9 observed an SUV approaching for inspection prior to leaving the United States to Mexico. During an initial inspection in the outbound lanes, a CBP K-9 alerted to an odor it is trained to detect near the driver’s side quarter panel, according to information obtained from CBP officials.

The officers referred the driver to a secondary inspection area. Following the alert from the K-9, officers conducted a physical search of the vehicle and found multiple bundles of unreported U.S. currency. The officers found the cash in the quarter panels, under the third-row seat, and the cargo area of the vehicle, officials reported.

CBP officers documented the unreported currency and reported the seizure of more than $1 million USD.

“CBP officers and a canine team successfully stopped the smuggling of the currency during outbound inspections,” Anne Maricich, Acting Director of Field Operations for CBP in San Diego said in a written statement. “This is a demonstration of great police work and dedication to the CBP mission by our officers with the goal of stopping the illicit movement of currency through the border.”

The Federal Trade Commission has a specific aim at “seeking a permanent injunction in federal court that could, among other things, require the company to divest assets” reports CNN Business. The assets include the popular global platforms Instagram and WhatsApp.

Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Competition Ian Conner said in a statement of the matter, “personal social networking is central to the lives of millions of Americans.” As such, “Facebook’s actions to entrench and maintain its monopoly deny consumers the benefits of competition. Our aim is to roll back Facebook’s anticompetitive conduct and restore competition so that innovation and free competition can thrive” added Conner.

In 2012 Facebook announced its purchase of Instagram for $1 billion. Two years later, the announcement of a $19 billion acquisition of WhatsApp was announced. Facebook’s impenetrable monopoly of the market “makes Facebook the second global tech company to be taken to court by US and state government officials this year over antitrust concerns” reports CNN Business. The first was Google when the Justice Department and 11 states filed a lawsuit in October claiming the tech giant had “stifled competition to maintain its powerful place in online search and search advertising.”

The FTC has been conducting its investigation of Facebook since June of 2019 and more than 40 attorneys general signed onto Wednesday’s complaint following New York Attorney General Letitia James’ announcement of an investigation into anticompetitive practices by the company 14 months prior. “For nearly a decade, Facebook has used its dominance and monopoly power to crush smaller rivals and snuff out competition” said James during a press conference. “By using its vast troves of data and money, Facebook has squashed or hindered what the company perceived to be potential threats” she added.

‘Final’ Deadline for Brexit Deal Extended Yet Again as Year End Looms

The British and European Union negotiating teams have agreed to push back the latest in a long line of “final” deadlines for a Brexit deal to be done yet again, with both European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen and British prime minister Boris Johnson pledging to “go the extra mile”.

“As things stand, and this was basically what Ursula and I agreed, we are still very far apart on some key things,” Prime Minister Boris Johnson told Sky News.

“But where there is life there is hope. The UK certainly won’t be walking away from talks, I think people would expect us to go the extra mile,” he said — although some will question whether people would rather he had drawn a line under the talks in the summer, when the first “final” deadline for an agreement expired, as this would have allowed for much more clarity and much more planning time for businesses, expatriates, and others for a clean break with the European Union.

At present, it seems people will have mere days to prepare for whatever form of Brexit ultimately comes about at the end of 2020, with little knowledge of what support will become available — and indeed what opportunities may arise.

Prime Minister Johnson said he had offered, once again, to directly to foreign capitals for face-to-face talks with European government leaders — France’s Emmanuel Macron and Germany’s Angela Merkel are regarded as the key players in the bloc — but was, once again, rejected, with the unelected bureaucrats of the European Commission retaining their jurisdiction over the talks.

“I repeated my offer. If it’s necessary to talk to other capitals then I’m very happy to do that. The Commission is very determined to keep the negotiations on the way that they’ve been done between us and the Commission,” he said, perhaps hinting at some frustration with so-called eurocracy.

“The UK should continue to try. I think that’s what the people of this country want me to do. We are going to continue to try and we’re going to try with all our hearts. We’ll be as creative as we possibly can. We remain willing to talk and continue to do so. In the meantime lets get ready for the WTO [World Trade Organization] option,” Johnson insisted, while conceding that ‘no deal’ is is “the most likely thing now”.

The issues dividing London and Brussels are, primarily, the same as they have been since at least 2017, namely the EU’s demands that free trade in goods and services be tied to continued EU control over Britain’s territorial waters — the EU currently assigns the the lion’s share of Britain’s fishing stocks to other member-states — and continued British submission to EU regulations, as interpreted by the EU courts.

EU Supertrawlers Ravage British Waters Ahead of Brexit, Kill Dolphins, Porpoises, Seals

A surge of industrial supertrawlers from the EU are devastating Britain’s territorial waters, including marine protected areas, as a ‘no-deal’ Brexit which would see the country reclaim its fisheries looms.

While Britain technically left the European Union at the beginning of 2020, it has for all practical purposes remained a member — minus its voting rights — during a year-long “transition” period in which a UK-EU trade agreement was supposed to be negotiated.

This means the country has remained subject to the bloc’s so-called Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), which treats national fisheries as a so-called “common resource”.

(The policy was introduced right before Britain joined the EEC, as the EU then was, in the 1970s, bringing the richest fishing stocks in Western Europe with it.)

The CFP has seen tens of thousands of jobs and over half the boats in the British fishing industry destroyed, as Brussels has allocated the lion’s share of Britain’s fish to the rest of the EU, but with a UK-EU deal looking increasingly remote — in large part because the EU is insisting any deal must include a significant amount of continued control over Britain’s fisheries — the ride may finally be coming to an end.

This has apparently prompted a last hurrah by the continent’s giant factory ships, with at least ten of them entering British waters to plunder them for all they are worth in the time remaining before the end of the transition.

“Between them, these supertrawlers have not only caught masses of their target fish species but tonnes of fish and marine life that they do not want, including marine mammals. These are usually ground down for animal feed or thrown back dead as bycatch,” said Thea Taylor, co-lead of the Brighton Dolphin Project.

“We see a surge in dead dolphins on Sussex beaches when supertrawlers are here or during the weeks after.

“Although the UK government already recognises cetacean species to be protected by law, bycatch caused by factory trawlers continues,” she lamented.

The French, who have pushed harder than anyone for control over Britain’s fisheries to be included in any Brexit trade deal, fear that the largely Dutch-owned supertrawlers will descend on their waters if Boris Johnson follows through on his promise to follow through on a no-deal break with the EU if a negotiated settlement cannot be agreed.

“If it was only French fishermen in French waters, then no-deal might be OK, but we have the Belgians, the Dutch to contend with,” fretted Olivier Le Prêtre, head of the Hauts-de-France fishing council, in comments to the Telegraph.

“If they all end up in French waters, there is a risk of overfishing and in a few months we’ll annihilate stocks.”

The Netherlands, he said, “is a nation that is exterminating fish. They have bought up the European fleet, they fish to excess. We all know full well that if we exterminate the fish they won’t come back ever again.”

The British government has put the Royal Navy on standy to move against any EU vessels which continue exploiting Britain’s waters after Brexit, and is preparing legislation giving it new powers to board such vessels and arrest their crew.

Hundreds of people were slaughtered in an Ethiopian town during a government offensive which 'left the stench of bodies lingering for days', according to survivors.

Witnesses said security forces and their allies attacked civilians with machetes and knives or strangled them with ropes in Mai-Kadra, an agricultural town near the Sudanese border, on November 9.

Several mass graves have been reported amid claims the smell of corpses remained for days at the site in the Tigray region.

Amnesty International said last month that scores of civilians were killed in the 'massacre', which witnesses blamed on forces backing the local ruling party.

It was the first reported incident of large-scale civilian fatalities in a then week-old conflict between the regional ruling party, the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF), and the government of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, winner of last year's Nobel Peace Prize.

The AP has been unable to obtain permission to travel to the Tigray region and has been unable to independently verify the reports of the massacre. Neither Amnesty International nor the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission agreed to requests to speak with witnesses they interviewed.

The Ethiopian commission, an entity created under the country's constitution, called its findings preliminary. Its researchers were allowed by the federal government to visit Mai-Kadra, but when asked whether it was being allowed to also investigate other alleged atrocities, spokesman Aaron Maasho replied, 'We're working on it.'

The UN human rights office this week called for independent investigations into the conflict, but Ethiopian officials have rejected what they call interference, saying this week the government doesn't need a 'babysitter'.

To assume the government can't do such work itself 'is belittling,' senior Ethiopian official Redwan Hussein told reporters on Tuesday.

The prime minister has called the killings in Mai-Kadra 'the epitome of moral degeneration' and even expressed suspicion that the perpetrators may have fled to Sudan and could be hiding among the refugees.

Abiy offered no evidence, only pointing to the number of young men among the refugees - though roughly half are women.

The prime minister also has rejected allegations of abuses by the Ethiopian defense force, saying it 'has not killed a single person in any city' during the conflict.

But the Tigray leader, Debretsion Gebremichael, blamed the 'invading' federal forces for the killings, telling the AP that 'we're not people who can commit this crime, ever'.

The ethnic frictions and profiling must stop, the UN human rights chief Michelle Bachelet warned this week, saying they are 'fostering divisiveness and sowing the seeds for further instability and conflict' - in a region already rife with both.

Hong Kong newspaper owner Jimmy Lai has been denied bail over claims he 'colluded with foreign powers' as he is frogmarched to court in chains.

Lai, who founded the Apple Daily tabloid, was charged on suspicion of colluding with foreign forces and endangering national security, TVB reported Friday.

He is the most high-profile person out of more than two dozen charged under the sweeping law since it was imposed by Beijing in June.

Police said in a statement they arrested a 73-year-old man under the national security law, but did not name him. Lai was arrested in August.

He and two executives of Next Digital - the firm that operates Apple Daily - were later charged with fraud over accusations they violated lease terms on office space.

He was denied bail earlier this month and was pictured yesterday being put in a prison van on the way to court.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was quick to offer his support for Lai, tweeting: 'Hong Kong’s National Security Law makes a mockery of justice. [Jimmy Lai's] only “crime” is speaking the truth about the Chinese Communist Party’s authoritarianism and fear of freedom. Charges should be dropped and he should be released immediately.'

When asked for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' reaction to Lai's charges under the national security law, spokesman Stephane Dujarric reiterated the UN chief's 'concern about the shrinking civic space in many places around the world'.

Beijing imposed the national security law in response to protests in Hong Kong that began in June 2019 over a proposed extradition law and expanded to include demands for greater democracy in the former British colony.

The legislation outlaws secession, subversion, terrorism, and collusion with foreign forces to intervene in Hong Kong's internal affairs.

In certain cases, those charged under the national security law could also face trial in mainland China, where the legal system is highly opaque.

The broad legislation prompted more public protests and led to complaints that Beijing is violating the autonomy promised to Hong Kong when was handed over to China from Britain in 1997.

Critics have said the law is also damaging Hong Kong's status as a business centre.

Apple Daily criticised the law on its front page on July 1, calling it the 'final nail in the coffin' of the territory's autonomy.

In Wisconsin, the committee operates as an unregistered independent expenditure committee, which means it has to file election spending reports, but it does not have to disclose its contributors. All of the group’s election spending was for online advertising.

The national committee must report its fundraising and spending activities to the U.S. Internal Revenue Service because it is classified as a nonprofit political organization known as a 527 group. The committee’s 527 reports to the IRS from late 2016 through March 2018 show that it raised more than $8.3 million to spend on state and federal elections throughout the country. Four hundred Nigerian pupils went missing after armed motorcycle-riding bandits raided their school in the latest 'mass kidnap' to hit the country plagued by Islamist militants.

The gunmen, who were carrying assault rifles, attacked the Government Science secondary school in Nigeria’s northwestern Katsina state late on Friday, police said. Hundreds of students were missing, according to two local people.

The bandits stormed the school in the Kankara district at around 9.40pm, and police at the scene returned fire, allowing some students to run for safety, police spokesman Gambo Isah said in a statement.

Police said they were working with the army and air force to determine how many pupils were missing or kidnapped, and to find them. One officer was shot and wounded in the exchange of fire with the gang, they said.

A source at the school told a local newspaper, This Day Live, that the bandits were riding on motorcycles.

He added: 'They abducted many of our students who were inside their hostels. I cannot say how many people were kidnapped, but they went away with many students.

'As we speak this morning [Saturday], our remaining students have left the school and their parents are here with us trying to know their whereabouts.'

Atiku Abubakar, Nigeria's former Vice President, tweeted earlier today: 'My thoughts and prayers are with the abducted pupils of the Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State.'

There were chaotic scenes at the school on Saturday as desperate parents and security personnel gathered to search for roughly half of the school’s 800 students who were still missing, said one parent and a school employee.

More than one million Australians were put out of work as a result of devastating lockdowns and other government policies to “flatten the curve” of COVID-19, with the country subsequently falling into recession for the first time in nearly three decades.

But as small businesses were wiped out and livelihoods destroyed, the public sector thrived. State and federal bureaucrats, many of whom were responsible for the lockdown policies, received pay-rises.

A browse through government tender notices since July – the month the official unemployment rate peaked at 7.5 per cent – reveals some interesting spending priorities.

With October’s federal budget plunging Australia headfirst, Scrooge McDuck-style, into a trillion-dollar national debt that won’t be paid off until the early 2080s, it’s not surprising government departments are also loosening their belts.

Here’s where some your taxpayer dollars have been going.

In July, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission spent more than half a million dollars fitting out all of its offices with “desk pucks” – a hot-desking booking and management system known as Floorsense.

The financial watchdog paid $565,746.50 for the system, which is marketed as having new coronavirus-related features such as contact tracing support and social distancing enforcement.

Health-conscious government agencies have also splashed out on sit-stand desks in the past six months.

In September, the Australian Electoral Commission spent $94,361.30 buying 109 sit-stand desks, the Department of Finance bought $14,267 worth, and in July the Department of Agriculture spent $45,897.50.

Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple, has ventured into blockchain-based energy efficiency startup Efforce — 45 years after starting his first venture. The ambitious project by Wozniak aims to use cryptocurrency and blockchain technology to make it cheaper and more comfortable for companies to fund ‘green’ projects. The startup, based out of Malta, has been in stealth mode for the last year, about which Wozniak had hinted in the Delta Summit 2019.

This is the first-ever blockchain-based energy-saving platform that is accessible to large and small investors, regardless of borders to monetise their transferable energy savings. It aims to democratise the $250 billion markets for energy-efficiency projects.

The launch of Efforce came with the listing of a digital token, WOZX, which has been named after Wozniak. According to the company, it had received an initial valuation of $80M by investors in private sales. More Lawmakers, Veterans Groups Call for VA Secretary Robert Wilkie to Resign

Veteran groups lined up Saturday to demand the firing or immediate resignation of VA Secretary Robert Wilkie following an Inspector General's report that found he sought to smear a woman who filed a complaint of sexual assault at a VA hospital.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and other top Democrats joined Rep. Mark Takano, D-Calif., chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee, in calling for Wilkie's ouster.

In separate statements, the two largest veterans service organizations, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, said that Wilkie's handling of the complaint made by Navy Reserve lieutenant commander and congressional aide Andrea Goldstein made him unfit for office.

"It is clear that Secretary Robert Wilkie failed to meet the standard that the veteran who came forward with the complaint deserved," said Legion National Commander James W. "Bill" Oxford. "The American Legion believes Secretary Wilkie should resign."

The VFW "has lost all confidence in the performance of Secretary Robert Wilkie and demands his immediate resignation," said B.J. Lawrence, the VFW's executive director.

When Goldstein made allegations about being groped and harassed in the lobby of the Washington, D.C., VA Medical Center in September 2019, Wilkie and his staff "sought to discredit and vilify the veteran," Lawrence said. "We will not tolerate this behavior at our VA."

Disabled American Veterans, Paralyzed Veterans of America and Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America also called for Wilkie to resign or be fired by President Donald Trump.

Goldstein, who came forward to identify herself, later appeared with Takano at a news conference in front of the facility to demand action by the VA.

The IG report, released last week, said that the alleged assailant may have been a "contractor," but did not give any further identification.

The VA maintained that video cameras which might have recorded the incident were not working on the day Goldstein claimed she was assaulted.

An initial report by VA Inspector General Michael Missal found that the claim lacked evidence, and the Justice Department declined to take up the case.

However, Missal also blasted statements by Wilkie, who said Goldstein's claims were "unsubstantiated" and had needlessly tarnished the VA's reputation.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday warned that Iran could become a threat to world peace, calling for concerted international actions to stem the Tehran regime’s aggression.

“As long as Iran continues to subjugate and threaten its neighbors; as long as Iran continues to call for Israel’s destruction; as long as Iran continues to bankroll, equip and train terrorist organizations throughout the region and the world; and as long as Iran persists in its dangerous quest for nuclear weapons and the means to deliver them, we shouldn’t go back to business as usual with Iran,” he said.

“We should all unite to prevent this major threat to world peace,” he said before meeting with visiting US National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien.

“I say world peace because today the Islamic Republic of Iran is still a nasty neighbor bully, but if unchecked, Iran tomorrow will arm itself with nuclear-tipped ICBMs [intercontinental ballistic missiles] that can target Europe and America, and it will become a global bully, which will endanger everyone.”

US President Donald Trump’s “maximum pressure” policy against Iran has been widely praised across the Middle East, the prime minister continued. “When Israelis and Arabs agree on so many things, it makes sense for the world to pay attention. After all, we live in this region.”

US President-elect Joe Biden is expected to reenter the Iran nuclear deal, which Trump withdrew from in 2018. Trump has since reimposed sanctions on the Islamic Republic, and Iran has stepped up enrichment beyond the limits of the 2015 international accord. Biden has said he would return to the deal, inked when he was vice president, only if Tehran went back to strict compliance with the agreement first, while also promising to take steps to curb the influence of the Islamic Republic’s regional proxies.

Last month, Iran’s top nuclear scientist was assassinated in a hit blamed on Israel, ramping up tensions, with Tehran promising revenge.

Netanyahu also addressed Israel’s recent US-brokered normalization agreements with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan and Morocco. The deals between Israel and the Gulf states were announced over the summer, followed by Sudan in October, and Morocco on Thursday.

“This is creating enormous excitement in Israel. Israelis now are faced with a great dilemma. Where to go? Dubai or Morocco? Abu Dhabi or Morocco?” he joked. “I’m sure we’ll resolve that one. We’ll go to both,” he added.

CDC director accepts advisory panel's recommendation, clearing the way for vaccinations to begin

The director of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has signed off on advisory panel's recommendation to use Pfizer and BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine in people 16 and older, clearing the way for inoculations to begin.

“This official CDC recommendation follows Friday’s [Food and Drug Administration (FDA)] decision to authorize the emergency use of Pfizer’s vaccine,” Dr. Robert Redfield said in a statement on Sunday. “As COVID-19 cases continue to surge throughout the U.S., CDC’s recommendation comes at a critical time. Initial COVID-19 vaccination is set to start as early as Monday, and this is the next step in our efforts to protect Americans, reduce the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and help restore some normalcy to our lives and our country.”

Redfield’s recommendation comes shortly after FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn told CNN’s Jake Tapper that he was unsure of why Redfield had yet to sign off on the authorization, but expressed confidence in him.

“I don’t know the answer to that question,” Hahn said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “I do know I’ve had a lot of conversations with director Redfield and he is certainly on top of this, and has a lot of confidence in the process.”

New Documents Show How The British Government Secretly Created 'Regime Change’ Protests In Lebanon

Three month ago we reported on documents obtained from of 'Her Majesties Government' in Britain which revealed the intense involvement of the UK government in organizing, financing and propagandizing 'Syrian rebels' since the start of the war on Syria. These programs were coordinated with the CIA's and the Gulf Arab's arming of the various Jihadis:

Most of the documents are detailed company responses to several solicitations from the Foreign Office for global and local campaigns in support of the 'moderate rebels' who are fighting against the Syrian government and people.

The documents lay out large scale campaigns which have on-the-ground elements in Syria, training and arming efforts in neighboring countries, command and control elements in Jordan, Turkey and Iraq, as well as global propaganda efforts. These operations were wide spread.

Most of the documents are from 2016 to 2019. They detail the organization of such operations and also portray persons involved in these projects. They often refer back to previous campaigns that have been run from 2011/2012 onward. This is where the documents are probably the most interesting. They reveal what an immense effort was and is waged to fill the information space with pro-rebel/pro-Islamist propaganda.

For any informed person who had watched the development of the war on Syria it was no surprise that such programs existed. But the immense extend of these was really astonishing. Consider what ARK, one of the involved companies run by 'former' British spies, organized as part of a British government 'Strategic Communication' program:

ARK,as a company that has specialised in Syria programming for more than three years, has access to a wide-range of networks in Syria. ARK has trained over 1,400 beneficiaries representing over 210 beneficiary organisations in more than 130 workshops, and disbursed more than 53,000 individual pieces of equipment. This network reaches into all of Syria’s 14 governorates (see map below), including liberated, regime-and extremist-controlled areas, and ranges from the most senior Syrian opposition politicians, to armed groups, civil society organisations and ordinary Syrians. This includes but is not limited to:

61 stringers; 17 teams of distributors;

14 FM radio stations; 11 community magazines; two local TV stations;

17 Civil Defence teams in Aleppo; 16 in Idlib;

58 police stations in Aleppo; 32 in Idlib; eight in Latakia;

10 Syrian field researchers; 60 Syrian researchers who can conduct broad-based population surveys (a survey study in May 2014 reached 1,300 individuals); a focus group database of over 800 individuals; Dozens of Local Councils; judicial courts; documentation centres; and

A variety of other organisations.

Bill Gates says presidential transition is 'complicating' US efforts to distribute vaccine

"The transition is complicating, but the new administration is willing to rely on actual experts and not attack those experts," Gates, the co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, told CNN’s Jake Tapper in an interview that aired Sunday on "State of the Union."

President Donald Trump has refused to concede the 2020 election to Biden and has not coordinated with the President-elect on the Covid-19 vaccine candidates and the massively complex distribution operation. Biden has said that the Trump administration had shared information but not a "detailed plan" with his transition team about the nationwide distribution of a vaccine.

In his interview with Tapper, Gates praised Biden’s incoming administration for "laying out clear plans" to slow the spread of Covid-19, adding that "I think we’ll get through this in a positive way."

"You know I’m pleased with the people and the priority that President-elect Biden and his team are bringing to bear on this problem," he said.

The Gates Foundation on Thursday said it plans to commit an additional $250 million to support the "research, development and equitable delivery" of tools to fight Covid-19, including tests, treatments and vaccines. The announcement brings the group’s total commitments to the global Covid-19 response to $1.75 billion.

As fears persist of overwhelmed medical systems and at-capacity hospitals nationwide, data indicate that ample hospital space remains available for both COVID-19 patients and other medical needs, with one official at a major hospital network stating that the country is "managing pretty well" the latest surge of COVID-19.

For most of 2020, rising positive test results of COVID-19 have brought with them fears of swamped hospitals, overwhelmed medical systems, emergency patients being turned away, and COVID-19 patients being triaged, suffering and dying in hallways and vestibules.

Much of that fear crystallized in the early stages of the pandemic, when parts of the northern Italian medical system were put under significant strain due to a crush of COVID-19 patients. In response, leaders and medical officials around the world suspended elective surgeries and constructed emergency medical facilities to cope with anticipated waves of COVID-19 patients.

In many cases those facilities were eventually shuttered for lack of patients, even after millions of dollars had been invested in their construction. In Chicago, for instance, the city spent $120,000,000 on four facilities to treat a total of 38 patients.

The latest spike in positive COVID tests has brought renewed fears of hospitals straining under an influx of COVID-19 patients, with some facilities across the country reporting difficulties managing large numbers of patients, either from a dwindling number of scarce beds or not enough medical officials to man them, or both.

Capacity nationwide appears to be far from overwhelmed

Yet federal government data compiled from state-level reports suggests that hospitals nationwide have considerable space left to deal with both routine medical issues and COVID-19 patients.

The Department of Health and Human Services offers on its website estimates of hospitalization rates across the United States. The data, the department says, is "estimated from hospital submissions, either reported through their state or reported through HHS Protect," which the department describes as "a secure data ecosystem … for sharing, parsing, housing, and accessing COVID-19 data." (HHS did not respond to queries about any limitations or caveats to the data.)
