California judge orders release of prisoners from jails to prevent Covid-19 spread

Orange County Superior Court Judge Peter Wilson ruled on Friday that jails must reduce their populations by fifty percent amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

It comes after the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed a lawsuit against County Sheriff Don Barnes alleging full jails were a “violation of [the] US Constitution and disability rights laws.”

The ACLU celebrated the ruling, calling it a “victory” for the prisoners “who had the courage to speak out about Sheriff Barnes’ failed response to Covid-19,” and a decision that “recognizes that we must not forget the humanity of incarcerated people.”

“This order will save lives,” claimed the ACLU’s Cassandra Stubbs in a statement, arguing that across the United States “corrections officials have not taken the necessary steps to protect incarcerated people from the spread of Covid-19, nor have they been honest about the circumstances and risk levels in their facilities.”

“Public health experts and epidemiological studies have been clear: This country won’t be able to get the pandemic under control unless we’re able to get it under control in prisons and jails,” she continued, highlighting the fact that Orange County, California “has one of the largest jail systems in the United States.”

Barnes, however, warned that the ruling could result in nearly two thousand criminals – many of whom were convicted of violent crimes – being let back out into the community.

“Many of these inmates are in pre-trial status for, or have been convicted of, violent crimes and will be released back into the community,” Barnes declared, warning that the judge’s decision “puts our community at substantial risk” and ignores the victims of the crimes committed by the prisoners.

California has over 1.5 million confirmed coronavirus cases and 20,000 deaths. Some 100,000 of these cases and just over 1,600 deaths are from Orange County.

The state has also experienced some of the strictest lockdown rules in the country under Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom, who faced immense backlash last month after it was revealed that he had ignored his own coronavirus advice to attend a party with over twelve people.

Deutsche Bank Warns 50% Of NYC Bankers Might Be Headed To Jacksonville In Latest Cost Cuts

As Deutsche Bank continues with the biggest blood-letting on Wall Street since the collapse of Lehman Brothers, managers are reportedly planning to move thousands of Manhattan-based associates, often those with the most important front-office-type jobs in sales and trading.

Ever since DB moved to expand its presence in the Americas during the late 1990s-2000s, thousands of young employees, from interns to first-year analysts, have flocked to places like Murray Hill and other parts of Manhattan to work at the city's investment banks, and generally live the young banker lifestyle of late nights out at bars on the lower east side and hooking up with wannabe model types at the clubs and bars that dot (or rather, once dotted) the East Village and the LES.

In the post-COVID era, many of these analysts might be sent to other more cost-effective parts of the country where Deutsche Bank already has a "presence", according to DB Americas CEO Christiana Riley, one of the highest-ranking women on Wall Street.

Riley told the FT that the NY head count could "conceivably" be cut in half in 5 years (a pretty aggressive time table). The bank currently has roughly 4,600 staff in Manhattan, which means some 2,300 could soon be reporting to DB's offices in Jacksonville Fla., long considered a dumping ground, where the bank houses its compliance department. According to media reports, the bank's compliance workers in the city have long been treated "lower than janitors" by a bank that's become almost synonymous with criminal malfeasance (an impression that has only been strengthened, as unfortunate or undeserved as that might be, by the endless MSM reporting on the bank's lending relationship with the Trumps.

PHOTOS: Portland Leftists Build Warzone-Style Barriers to Keep Cops Out

Radical leftists erected warzone-syle barricades to block Portland, Oregon, police from enforcing an eviction order on the occupants of what is known as “the Red House on Mississippi.” The barricade is at least three blocks wide and in some places consists of a six-layer fence and barricade.

Earlier this week, protesters repelled Portland police officers to came out to assist the local sheriff’s office in serving a legal eviction order on a foreclosed house. As officers arrived, protesters fought back violently and repelled the officers, Breitbart News reported.

Two days later the leftists continued to illegally occupy the newly established autonomous zone and expanded it to its now three-block diameter. Portland Police Bureau Chief Chuck Lovell said his department was aware of a “stockpile of weapons” and the “presence of firearms.”

On Thursday, Chief Lovell said, “The Portland Police will enforce the law and use force if necessary to restore order to the neighborhood.”

Despite the threats from the mayor and police chief, leftists continued reinforcing the autonomous zone and erected multi-layer border walls to slow down any police action.

Reports indicate an agreement may have been reached between the leftists and the city. Tweets circulated on social media asking people to come help take down the barricades and clear the streets.

Bill Gates: We Won’t Be Back to Normal Until Early 2022

Microsoft founder and philanthropist Bill Gates said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that it could be 18 months before the coronavirus pandemic will not impact Americans’ daily lives.

Anchor Jake Tapper said, “When do you think life will fully return to what we thought of as normal back in January, no masks, no social distancing, no other protective measures necessary?”

Gates said, “Certainly, by the summer will be way closer to normal than we are now, but even through early 2022, unless we help other countries get rid of this disease and we get high vaccinations rates in our country, the risk of reintroduction will be there and, of course, the global economy will be slowed down, which hurts America economically in a pretty dramatic way. So we will have, starting in the summer, about nine months where a few things like big public gatherings will still be restricted. But we can see now that somewhere between 12 to 18 months, we have a chance, if we manage it well, to get back to normal.”
