tritium is not needed. fusion reactors work fine with deuterium. philo farnsworth demonstrated inertial containment "fusor" reactors almost a century ago, and the pons-fleischman electrolytic cell "cold fusion" reactors also only require deuterium.

tritium has a half life of 12.5 yrs. it's a daughter radionuclide from the decay of much heavier radionuclides. the only "naturally occurring" sources of tritium are quasi-constant equilibrate pockets near deposits of those heavier radionuclides.
