Richard Donoghue is an American attorney and prosecutor who served as the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York from 2018 to 2020. Donoghue was appointed interim U.S. Attorney by Jeff Sessions in January 2018. On December 14, 2020, President Trump announced that Donoghue would become Acting Deputy Attorney General of the United States on December 23, 2020.
Education
Donoghue earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hofstra University and Juris Doctor from the St. John's University School of Law.[1]
Career
Donoghue served in the Judge Advocate General's Corps, United States Army, where he was a Military Magistrate Judge, Prosecutor, Defense Counsel, and Contract Litigator. He also served in the 82nd Airborne Division. Donogue worked at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York before leaving to serve as Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General and Counselor to the U.S. Attorney General. Donogue was selected to serve as United States Attorney in January 2018. In 2020, it was announced that Donoghue would leave the Eastern District to serve as Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General at the United States Department of Justice.[1][2][3]
