Then you need to know what a cult is.
A cult is a religious group of two or more people who do one or both of the following:
Diminish the divinity of Jesus Christ;
Diminish the finished nature of Jesus' work on the cross.
Cults are also known by their leaders having sex with children, and/or multiple wives.
We do not fit the definition of cult by any measure.

All cults do the same thing, whether you can recognize it or not.
By controlling people's interactions and beliefs, they by necessity diminish one or two of the things stated above; the divinity of Jesus, and the finished nature of salvation by Jesus' sacrifice on the cross.
Even if you, or they, think the two are independent, they are not. They are intimately related.
And there are no "Christian cults". Just cults.
I would say that the vatican is the house of the devil, for the meantime, before he is forced to move back to Babylon.

I understand you think there can be more than two situations; one that deals with Jesus, and one that does not.

No, it is not. Jerusalem is never Babylon. Sometimes Egypt, sometimes Sodom, but never Babylon.
