Just a thought from a gamer to people who actually know how the internet works. Is there any way to trace if a Chinese online game pings to a western IP?

As far as I know for a game to be played in China, it has to have its own server, versus being able to link to the outside world. Eve Online with its servers is an example. China plays on their own server, while the rest of the world plays on Tranquility.

Could we track game comms by seeing what games ping outside china?
