I was surprised to find that old WaPo article. Yes, the spooks have been incestuously involved with the TMI but the belief is that [they] are no longer in control, or exert any influence at the Institute. OOBEs and APing have become such a popular pastime that there is often a long waiting list for the week-long programs. In fact, hundreds of thousands if not more have (an can) learn "how to" on their own. Nothing special. No geniuses required. No special gene or higher degree of evolution either. This is just a manifestation of the next biggest evolutionary step our species is currently taking. The Interwebs are merely "training wheels" for the global consciousness which is about to envelop the human race. And the best part: Good overcomes all Evil as this next step is fully taken.
