Marc Elias, Democrat Lawyer Behind Russia ‘Dossier,’ Involved in Seven Lawsuits over Georgia Senate Runoff

Marc Elias, the Democrat lawyer behind the Russia “dossier” in 2016, and a slew of lawsuits to expand vote-by-mail in the 2020 presidential election, is involved in seven lawsuits regarding the rules for the Georgia Senate runoff to be held Jan. 5.

Elias’s website, Democracy Docket, is a clearinghouse of information for fellow Democrats on current election litigation around the country. He lists five cases of interest in the runoff, which pits incumbent Republican Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler against Democratic challengers Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, respectively:

Elias is among the plaintiff’s attorneys in the latter four cases. He represents Democrats in motions to intervene in the first three.

The Washington Post identified Elias in 2017 as the lawyer who paid Fusion GPS to compile the fraudulent Russia “dossier” on then-candidate Donald Trump on behalf of the Democratic National Committee and the Hillary Clinton campaign.

Elias casts his role as an attorney as defending voters’ rights, but he often pushes for vote tallies to be overruled when it would serve Democrats’ interests. On Wednesday, Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) recalled in a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing how Elias had tried to steal his 2018 Senate race through the courts, despite the verdict of the voters.

Currently, Elias is trying to overturn the results of a congressional race in Iowa’s 2nd district that Republican Marianette Miller-Meeks has wonky six votes over Democrat Rita Hart. Elias plans to appeal to House Democrats to refuse to seat Meeks, using their majority and their discretion through the Federal Contested Elections Act.

Trump Campaign Attorney Tells Senate Committee Over 42,000 People Voted More Than Once in Nevada

The Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs on Wednesday held an oversight hearing to examine irregularities in the 2020 election.

Trump campaign attorney Jessie Binnall said more than 42,000 people voted more than once in Nevada.

Mr. Binnall has argued this before but he was able to present his findings to powerful lawmakers on the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs on Wednesday.

Binnall said people were able to vote more than once by using different variations of their first name such as “William” and “Bill” – Other individuals were able to register under a married name and a maiden name.

At least 1,500 dead people are recorded as voting and more than 19,000 people voted even though they didn’t live in Nevada.

Binnall said there is a minimum of 130,000 instances of voter fraud.

The corrupt Democrat machine in Clark County stole Nevada for Joe Biden by harvesting ballots and flooding the system with illegal ballots.

US medical industry urged to reassess paid events amid doctor kickback concerns

The rare ‘fraud alert’ from the Department of Health and Human Services could signal a harder line on industry-funded speaker programs.

Salix Pharmaceuticals knew exactly what kind of doctors it wanted to woo.

Gastroenterologists, treating patients suffering from irritable bowel syndrome — a malady that afflicts up to 45 million people in the United States alone — needed to be convinced to prescribe Salix’s anti-diarrhea drug, Xifaxan, Salix determined, according to a U.S. government lawsuit the company later settled. One inconvenient wrinkle: the drug hadn’t actually been approved for such use.

No matter. The company’s marketing arm sprang into action, following an industry playbook that the inspector general for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is now warning against in a rare “fraud alert.”

For six years, federal authorities say, Salix rewarded “high-prescribing” Xifaxan doctors with fancy dinners, handsome speaking fees and getaways to luxury hotels. Physicians also collected checks for touting the off-label benefits of the drug to their peers. One former Salix marketer later said her superiors described the purpose of certain speaker programs as “taking care of” cooperative physicians.

Some of the tactics that Salix used to promote its drug, such as paying doctors to be “on call” to discuss the drug at events they didn’t actually speak at, and promotions aimed at increasing off-label use, were aggressive even by the standards of the industry.

But finding ways to reward doctors who prescribe certain medical products— and enticing them to convince their peers to do the same — is what drug and device marketing teams do every day.

Arranging and sponsoring speaking events is at the heart of that effort. In the last three years, drug and device companies have spent $2 billion on “speaker-related services,” according to reports that companies must file with the U.S. government. Many doctors eagerly accept the perks, which range from modest speaking fees to talk up certain products, to flat-out junkets in lavish locales.

The fraud alert, issued last month, comes from the office within the Department of Health and Human Services charged with combating waste, fraud and abuse in the sprawling Medicaid and Medicare programs.

The inspector general’s office says it has “significant concerns” about speaker payments. Previous federal investigations have shown that the payments are often offered to “induce” the prescribing of specific drugs or devices paid for by federal healthcare programs, the alert says.

The alert comes as the COVID-19 pandemic has forced most in-person speaker events to a halt. Before companies get back to business as usual, they should “assess the need” for speaker events “given the risks associated with offering or paying related remuneration,” the alert says — risks that include violating the federal anti-kickback statute. That law, the alert notes, was created to protect patients from doctors influenced by inappropriate financial incentives.

Ombudsman finds Melbourne's tower lockdown 'unlawful'

Victoria's Ombudsman has found Melbourne's public housing lockdown was in breach of human rights laws.

The Ombudsman has recommended the state government apologise to tower residents acknowledging the impact the lockdown had on their health and wellbeing.

“Many of these people came from war torn and deeply troubled backgrounds, there are many refugees are living in those towers, people who came from war torn states, where they had been tortured at the hands of their states,” Ombudsman Deborah Glass said.

“The sight of police surrounding the buildings, government officials knocking at the door unexpected was deeply traumatising…for some of the people we spoke to.”

Findings have revealed the rushed lockdown was not based on direct health advice and violated human rights laws.

The towers in North Melbourne and Flemington were shut down on July 4 amid spiralling coronavirus infections.
