I feel there is a weakness between the two documents, in that the Constitution is what outlines our rights, while the Declaration is more specific about the 'inalienable' part. This needs to be somehow codified in the Preamble, IMO.

I'm not always right. I remember that one time when I thought wrong, but wasn't.
In that case an introductory set of principles explaining inalienable rights is needed IMO. Unless the courts consider the Declaration as valid as the Constitution, but as far as I know it is not seen as the framework of our laws.
I guess it also explains why we so willingly allowed a communist takeover. After everything we had just gone thru in WW2 and Korea, and the early Cold War.
That's a death spiral though, and China knows it. They have some extreme vulnerabilities. I do feel like Xi needs a 'win' in his column though, to continue having support in the midst of all their other challenges. It would not be unusual in that situation to strike out somewhere militarily (like the US does). India or Taiwan maybe.

And what of our nuclear sub fleet? Unleashing instant death retaliation in the scenario you just described. First anon is correct. No one on the planet has the logistics or even the manpower to muster an invasion. That leaves 'strike' capabilities, maybe EMP, maybe some hail mary attack, or poisoning the water supply. Can you imagine the retribution we would wreak? There are, what 7 naval carrier groups? No one is prepared to suffer that, even China.
Their best bet would perhaps be a virus, or some kind of super 5g brain hack, or who knows.

The picture you are painting is a threat risk on some scale, sure. Forced COULD muster off shore and lob missiles or what have you. My point is, that wouldn't be nearly enough. I just realized something.

I think the one event that would give me pause would be Yellowstone lighting off. Gamed that one out a few times, heartland suffers the most, along with the food supply. Fortunately that one is not so easy to access, much less to provoke.
I think this is an important conversation, and I hope others take note. When the supply lines were threatened to stop in March, anon started taking stock of what we can get locally vs. what things we NEED that are Chinese. Made adjustments accordingly.
