This one looks like a rain garden.

But you don't build a rain garden out of sand.

You gotta have a very nutrient and beneficial bacteria-based medium for a rain garden to work.

There's usually a berm around rain gardens to keep the water in.

Definitely not a 12-15 foot berm like on Little St. James, but a fairly high berm.

I once installed one that had a 14" berm. That was the tallest one I'd ever done.

That is not a rain garden, obviously. But it looks like one.

Assuming it's a berm.

Looks more like an arena than anything else.

Side note:

If this berm was created using the dirt from excavation from construction of the features on the island, that's not that much dirt, and we may be barking up the wrong tree with that whole place.

If there are underground structures, there would be a shitload more dirt than that.

Just speculating.
