Brand doesn't matter so much as power, and antenna system. Hand-helds with small rubber antenna will be limited range. Base stations with a huge tower mounted antenna will reach quite a distance, without repeaters. All CB's operate in the 27Mhz range, so don't really need repeaters, like a Ham. They (CB's) are not line of sight dependent like higher frequency VHF and UHF Radios.

Signal DF Equipment can find and even measure distance to ANY signal, VLF to Microwave Anon.. Line of sight refers to terrain following of signal only. The Antennas of Tx and Rx units do not have to be able to "see" each other directly without terrain.

Yes. Still able to be traced to point of origin (antenna) though. OP was concerned with CB's and brand quality. I'm guessing he/she wants basic comms, not laser beamed comms or digital cross banding, or anything else. BASIC COMMS.
