"Mueller said a suspect in Harris’ killing is being held in New York State on charges related to the soldier’s disappearance, and pending extradition to New Jersey after additional charges are filed in Sussex County.

Harris, of Guys, Tennessee, was a 2018 graduate of McNairy Central High School there. He joined the Army in March 2019 and arrived at Fort Drum four months later.

Fort Drum is home to the 10th Mountain Division. Harris was an infantryman in the 89th Cavalry regiment of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team. Following his death, he was promoted from specialist to corporal.

“We are devastated,” Brigadier Gen. Brett Funck, acting commander for Fort Drum and the 10th Mountain Division, said in a statement, posted on Facebook."
