Doctor Gene Scott used to say the same thing.
He often pointed out that Genesis 1:1 portrayed a recreation event. The only time else in the bible the earth was "formless and void" was in Jeremiah. The vision was the Earth in chaos, and the "cities of men broken down."
Myself, I also add that fossils in the ground aren't put there to "fool us" as many preachers love to claim. God is not a liar.
