>according to the prophecy, it is said that the messiah will return after everyone has already worshipped the false messiah (i probably butchered this, please clarify where needed)
The worship of the false christ has been spread throughout the world. It calls itself the "universal church". Being worshiped globally in no way means every single person worships it. It is referring to globally rather than all inclusive.
>this creates a paradox in a way, as jesus christ is the messiah who everyone is already worshipping, not the false messiah, making it "impossible" for him to return
As long as the Doctrine Christ left with His Apostles, prophesied by the Prophets of old, is that to which His people adhere, then they worship the true Messiah. This is why it is said His Congregation is founded upon the Prophets and the Apostles (Ephesians), that is, founded upon their Doctrine. Those presenting a christ with doctrines never talk by the Prophets and the Apostles, are presenting a false christ. His Doctrine, the truth Christ; an alien doctrine, the false christ.
>however, the romans had a pagan sun god, sol invicticus, and they assumedly credited jesus with many of the miracles of the sun.
You'll find these began changing the Doctrine by adding things not taught by the Prophets and the Apostles. Constantine introduced the first step towards apostasy by commanding the day of the sun, the yearly festival, be applied to Christianity. Such was never taught by the Prophets and the Apostles. In fact, they didn't command any day be such. This false doctrine was one of the four basic tenets, the foundation, of the Harlot. Once all four became established, the Falling Away of which Paul spoke in 2 Thessalonians was completed.
>if this sol invicticus is possibly what people are worshipping today, is that sufficient for the prophecy to bring on the next messiah?
It is that which is worshiped, though other cultures had other names, Osiris/Egypt, Canaanites/Baal, Babylon/Tammuz, etc. However, the return of Christ Jesus depends upon all the sheep for whom He died, entering into the gate. Once the last sheep finally enters, that's the end.
