Coronavirus Package Spends Hundreds of Millions of Tax Dollars Securing Borders of Middle Eastern Countries
A year-end spending package meant to provide Americans with economic relief during the Chinese coronavirus crisis includes using United States taxpayer money to fund border security in foreign countries. As part of the more than 5,590-page spending bill, the deal provides the country of Jordan with “up to $500,000,000” in taxpayer money “to provide assistance to the Government of Jordan to support the armed forces of Jordan and to enhance security along its borders.” Likewise, the bill gives $250 million in taxpayer money to the countries of Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, and Oman for “enhanced border security.” Specifically in Lebanon, the bill gives taxpayer money to “secure the borders” of Lebanon. The bill also spends $700 million in taxpayer money on “assistance” for Sudan and its citizens.
The provisions are coupled with direct relief payments for Americans that are half of the $1,200 originally delivered in the CARES Act passed earlier this year. The bill provides $600 stimulus checks for individuals and $1,200 stimulus checks for couples, as well as additional money for each child a couple has.

Obama reveals daughter Malia’s boyfriend quarantined with the family December 18, 2020
Former President Barack Obama revealed that daughter Malia’s British boyfriend quarantined with the family in the early days of the pandemic — and their grocery bill shot up 30 percent. In a Wednesday interview on “The Bill Simmons Podcast,” Obama, 59, called his 22-year-old daughter’s beau Rory Farquharson a “wonderful young man.” “There was this whole visa thing, he had a job set up, and so we took him in,” Obama said. “And I didn’t want to like him, but he’s a good kid.” Farquharson, the well-to-do son of a London banker, ended up staying with the family “for a while” — and apparently had a large appetite. “The only thing you discover… [is] young men eat,” said Obama, a dad to two daughters. “It’s weird to watch them consume food. And my grocery bill went up about 30 percent,” he added with a laugh.
The 44th president spoke about the family’s extra guest after he was asked about his most fun moment as a dad during quarantine. “Maybe teaching Malia and Sasha, and Malia’s boyfriend who was with us for a while, spades and then having some spades games,” he responded. “And teaching them how to properly trash talk and slam the cards down.” Farquharson and the former first daughter met while attending Harvard. They were first spotted together in 2017, at a tailgate party at the Harvard-Yale football game.
